  1. Just checking US reels website, the only place I could find selling the baitcasters was All American Outdoors. They want $191 for the SC1000 Pro model + shipping. The lower end version was $179. None of the other listed dealers is offering the baitcasters, only spinning reels.
  2. Hey, I'm with you. I'd have to have some proof that the retrieval system was fool proof before I'd buy one. I think the ultimate test would be to attempt a walk the dog retrieve with one of the lighter topwaters like a Sammy. That retrieve requires just the right amount of slack and tension at the same time, I'm not sure the reeling ability of that reel wouldn't somehow screw that up.
  3. Garcia actually did have a reel that took the level wind out of the equation on the cast. This is an Ambassadeur Ultra Mag XL Plus circa 1983 - 1985. On this particular reel the level wind disengaged and free floated on it's spindle. You can see in the picture the level wind on this is disengaged from the drive bar below. When the retrieve was started, the drive assembly below would catch up to the level wind and lock it in. These were some of the smoothest, long distance reels available back then and can still out cast quite a few reels today despite the fact they have very few bearings. The larger, wide spool versions of these were often modified by casting distance pro's for competition by taking the level wind completely off. You see them occasionally on Ebay
  4. I have the 2 baitcast models you bought in the Titanium series. The 846 has always been called the C-rig model. They used to have a Tom Mann Jr. sig rod using that model number, it was supposed to be extra fast but I never saw much difference. Obviously, C-rigging, T-rig, pitching, etc. The 845 series I usually use for throwing smaller spider jigs, small T-rigs, creature baits, etc. I suppose you could also throw a spinnerbait with it, the rod action is stout enough. I'm not familiar with the 845 series spinning rod though. The TAS rods are a really good value. Should last you a long time.
  5. Pull the crank plate off a Pflueger Patriarch and a Revo and they look identical. Most of the parts are interchangeable. Pull the crankplate off a JM signature reel and you'll find the same thing. Only very, very minor differences. As to who makes this one? The styling is similar to the older Clunn series RC 1000 series though a little more streamlined. BPS previously was selling (giving away via promotions) a Johnny Morris reel, the JMP, which had 10 bearings, no metallic finish and only a 6 pin centrifugal brake system. This would seem to be a remake of that reel.
  6. Which also have a BPS emblem on the side that requires being pushed in and the side plate turned to remove. Just keep returning reels and exchanging for different models till you find the one you can get the sideplate off of. Good luck.
  7. congratulations..... I think. Not a bash on you but I'm wondering about the grading system that allows a student to pass through a grade(s) with B's or C's? It would seem to me that to show mastery of grade level course content, a grade of at least a B with at least several A's thrown in should be required. And a grade on conduct? I thought that kind of thing was reserved for grade school? Not a bash on you or your accomplishments. I noticed the problems in our school system when my son was going through high school. They've dropped the bar so low to graduate it's no wonder todays youth are seemingly so under-educated when they get out of school. It's all about "no child left behind", MAP testing grades and how much the next teacher raises will be. If you're a student that really has desire to learn, finding a teacher that really cares and isn't just going through the motions is tough. IMO, the public school system needs to be bulldozed and rebuilt. It's failing our youth badly.
  8. You can find NIB Citica D's for that price. Shimano is basically trying to give them away since nobody seems to want them. Not a bad reel, just too big and heavy.
  9. It woulda been a 30 pounder if he had been fishing with Shimano. He wouldn't have caught it at all since he'd have been too broke to go after over-paying for the fishing reel in the first place. Remember, it was the depression and all. On a more positive note, he could come here and bragged about his Shimano boner with the rest of the posse.

I haven't shot my .22 in quite a while but I seem to recall a particular brand (Remington?) of LR's that had a tendency to jam more often. Federal and CCI have always been good.
  11. If he's doubling his money on sales he's doing much better than most. 15% profit may be a great margin for a high volume seller but on a smaller scale it's not.
  12. If people would just bother to read all the information that's available on this website they could save themselves a whole lot of time. http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/buying_a_boat.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/buying_first_boat.html http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/a_new_boat.html Here's the entire section http://www.bassresource.com/fishing/bass_boats.html

This is technically correct. In order to maximize the side to side bobbing action, a knot tied directly to the eye towards the bottom of the lure will cause a slight downward pulling action which gets the head moving downward to start the action. Charlie Campbell is usually considered the "professor" of Zara Spooks and that guy can do some incredible things with the bait on retrieve.
  15. We really cut back this year. My son got me a spool of 10lb test line (Stren) and a Crawdad Rat L Trap I got a tank gauge for my Propane BBQ grill from my wife along with a remote controlled helicopter. (Great way to kill time this winter as I figure out how to fly the thing ;D ) My parents are giving me a Lowes gift card. I'll be using that on my boat restoration. All in all I'm ready for the new year and spring to get here.
  16. So I think we can say that after 3 pages that Bill Dance was a purty good fishermen in his day. He was an original BASS pro. His stats speak for themselves. He was the first to move away from the tournament trail, after achieving so much and go full time into the TV fishing biz. He's created a marketing empire on his name. He's acknowledged to be a really likable guy. He's got great marketing skills and has been a benchmark for other TV fishing pro's to emulate. He's a great teacher and his show always includes information to help in-experienced and experienced alike learn more. I suspect that Mr. Dance realizes that fishermen are more prone to want to see someone fishing and catching nice sized fish vs. small fish regardless of how personable or funny the host is. I'm sure this is why he films so many of his shows where he does. When you have limited time to make each 30 minute show, you want to be on waters where you'll have the maximum chance of catching large fish. There are now plenty of fishing shows out there that provide a "real time" fishing platform. Where guys are out trying to put together a pattern on a lake with limited time to do it. While it's great to see how anglers put together the puzzle pieces while they catch small fish just like you and I do every weekend, it's also nice to see other types of shows. Bill's fishing show is sort of an escape. Where he ties into solid 3 to 6 pound bass on every other cast. I love it. His enthusiasm for each fish he catches shines everytime. You can tell he genuinely loves catching fish. I relate to that and wish I was in the back of the boat with him. What's wrong with that?
  17. Yeah, just an average fishermen.... : 23 National Bass Titles; Bassmaster Classic Qualifier 8 out of 9 years and finished 2nd in 1973. Three time B.A.S.S. Angler of the Year 1970, 1974 & 1977. Of 78 total B.A.S.S. entries, finished 64 times in the money. 7 wins, 8 times runner up, 6 third place, 40 top ten finishes (51% of tournaments entered) and 51 top 20 finishes (65%). In first 11 tournaments, was only out of the top 7 once. Won 7 of the first 17 events entered (41%).
  18. Sportscar and..... we need to talk.
  19. Very light. Not a really refined reel for the price point though. The mag braking is the same as on the STX or SX. It's Somewhat quirky and takes getting used to. The handle is nothing more that the same ol handle Garcia has been putting on a lot of their reels for some time now. Unless a reel is advertised specifically for inshore usage, I would thoroughly flush most of the models mentioned here meticulously after any usage. I've seen my share of Curado's absolutely destroyed by saltwater corrosion due to occasional inshore usage.
  20. What's the bottom width of that boat? I did my 36" bottom width, 12 footer and there's no way I'd raise the deck that high.
  21. Unfortunately, the vast majority of boaters on the waters these days would've answered the stand on boat question as "the boat I'm standing on while I'm drinking my beer." Sadly, whether one knows the rules of the road for boating or not, the whole system only works if everyone does and follows them. I've found it's literally an every man for themselves enviroment on most lakes and never, ever trust anyone to do what the handbook says.
  22. Lifting cords do wear but one that's lasting such a short period of time seems to indicate you've got a problem somewhere. Carefully check the cable route and make sure you've got no burrs or rough edges somewhere along the line causing the premature failure.
  23. 30 years ago I took a break from TV repair and installed car stereo's for 1 1/2 years for a company called CMC stereo. Back then, I was still installing some 8 track stereos though most everyone wanted cassettes. ;D Alpine was the newest player in the market. Good stuff. The best amp was a Fosgate (pre-Rockwell) punch. 40 watts per channel (measured real 40 watts, not the hokey way they measure wattage today) with distortion as good as quite a few of the home stereo's on the sales floor. 3 way 6x9's were the way to go. The best system I ever installed had Pioneer 3 way 6x9's in the back deck, 6 1/2" Pioneer 3 ways in the door. An Alpine indash with a Fosgate Punch 240 amp. You could hook this same system up today and it would still sound incredible sans getting rid of the cassette and having a CD player of course.

You're seeing the same thing in Nascar that you're seeing in the NFL. Huge prices paid for rights to televise and equally huge prices paid by sponsors to advertise (numerous times) during a telecast to pay for it all. The programming in either of those series is difficult to watch because of it.
