  1. You can find surface mount, recess mount and track mount versions. I used surface mounts om my Loon 126.
  2. I have 2 of this style behind the seat https://www.academy.com/shop/pdp/railblaza-rod-holder-r#repChildCatid=3322036 so I can have the rods more horizontal for casting and not getting caught up low hanging tree branches when beating the banks.
  3. All things being equal a plastic boat vs aluminum boat aluminum wins. It will outlast a plastic boat. As far as hauling them around the are comparable in weight so neither one would be fun to toss up on the roof. So sliding it into the back of your mini van or an inexpensive trailer are your best options.
  4. Read through the hull. Mount in duct putty. I have used this method for years with no problems. Temp readings maybe off a little is only minor issue.
  5. As mentioned before a milk crate won't work in front of you. Instead of a milk crate I modified a soft sided tackle bag that I can secure behind the seat. Lately I don't bring it along and try to be more of a minimalist. As for rod holders I have 2 removable adjustable rod holders mounted behind me and one in front. If you fish shore line with low over hanging trees rods stored in flush mount holders can get hung up in the trees. Recently I add 2 flush mounts just for trolling. Home made anchor trolley and stake out pole are helpful with $5 9 foot tomato stake with 3/4 pvc tee. A basic fish finder with the transducer reading thru the hull behind the seat and you will have everything you need. There good kayak rigging sites on the internet and Facebook.
  6. I think if you start any trolling motor set on the highest speed it will jerk you around. Electric motors have instant torque.
  7. Go with white, any color boat will go with white. You could some kind of stripes or graphics that match the color of the boat.
  8. Nice yak. Great thing about a kayak is going places you can't even think about in a bass boat. I have on older bass boat and kayak. End up spending more time in the kayak than the big boat.
  9. Thanks for all the feedback! Decided to pick up the group 31 AGM at Sam's $179 vs $245 at Batteries are us. Time will tell if it will out last regular wet cell lead acid. Installed it in the boat only to find the bow mount trolling motor quit. Luckily it was just foot micro switch only $20.
  10. Anyone using Duracell AGM trolling motor batteries? Sam's has the group 31 for $179 and group 27 for $158. Seems like a good prices.
  11. Thanks everyone for the help. Embarrassed to say I missed the obvious. The positive terminal on the battery was really corroded. Feel confident that cleaning the terminal and lug will solve the problem.
  12. Yes never tried to start that way but would have to give it a try in a pinch. Always figured it would be difficult maybe fun just to give it a try.
  13. Yes it would not even turn over. Checked the kill switch. I dropped the start switch out so I could get test leads on it. Found yellow wire with red tracer went back to start coil. Had 12 volts at the switch when turned to start position but not the start coil. Reinstalled the switch in the dash and and now it is starting again. My guess at this point the start switch is intermittent. Going order a new one and hope I don't get stranded out on the water.
  14. 2002 50 HP Mercury - Pulled the boat out of the garage and fired it up for the first time this year and started no problem. Shut it off came in for lunch and now doesn't turn over Battery is good gauges move when in run position but no crank. The fuse for the starter is good. What leads on the start swit5ch should I see 12v when trying to start. Any help or gestions appreciated.
  15. A lot of good advice posted above this. You can make something like this to give you a work space in front of you for a rod holder, electronics or what ever. It is made from thin plywood, the storage bin is wife's old Tupper wear (ask first). That is a rod holder to the right of the fish finder.
  16. Yes, I learned the hard way.
  17. I have one in front and one in back of my boat. When 2 of us our fishing the guy in back can swing the back end around or if you get the front up in weeds or junk can use the transom mount in the rear to back up.
  18. The 1036 weighs about 112 lbs, about the same as many bigger sit on kayaks. You could put on some roof racks.
  19. Instead of a milk crate I use a soft tackle bag that I reinforced the sides with some thin fiber board riveted in place.
  20. At Sam's Club had prescription sun glasses made for under $150 don't remember exact amount.
