Thinking about a first kayak
To add what others have said. Length is important. 10 foot kayaks are easier to transport but generally don't track as well as a 12 footer.

Add gas lift for hatches
Any try these gas lifts for hatches on your boat? https://www.homedepot.com/p/100N-22-lbs-Cabinet-Door-Lift-Support-Gas-Spring-Gas-Shock-Lid-Support-with-Installation-Screws-1-Pair-GAS-1/312639194?mtc=Shopping-VF-F_D25H-G-D25H-Multi-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-GiftCenter&cm_mmc=Shopping-VF-F_D25H-G-D25H-Multi-Multi-NA-Feed-PLA-NA-NA-GiftCenter-71700000075416916-58700006462680269-92700058409314530&gclid=f9081a3be51615c579c645d0afb85bcc&gclsrc=3p.ds&msclkid=f9081a3be51615c579c645d0afb85bcc

DIY boat hacks
Hydraulic struts on your rod locker and storage bin lids would be a nice touch.

First jon boat
24 volt 80 lb would be nice but if your on a budget a 12 volt 55 pound would be enough. I have 16.5 foot aluminum boat with 55 lb and works for me. The same situation as you fish a lot of electric only lakes.

Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Hull Protection
Get or make a cart. As other suggested use Gorilla Tape for keel protection. I also put down a sharp line on the bottom of my kayak..

Fuel tank size
My gas tank is around 18 gal but I only keep it half full. The 50 Mercury really doesn't use much gas. At the end of the year I take the fuel line off the connector at the motor. Then pump the gas out to 5 gallon containers. Use that gas in my snow blower or put it in one of our cars.

12v to 24v converter
I saw a video on Youtube where the guy has a 12v to 24v convertor because he didn't have room for a second battery. He was using a Lithium 100Ah battery. Anyone here try this with any success with a lead acid or gel cell battery. An interesting solution to upgrading to a 24volt trolling motor with out having to buy to batteries 12 v to 24 volt converter. https://www.facebook.com/100009055845283/videos/2446614952317009

Preparing for a new boat
Yes if your not on big water that is all you need.
-
Need new paddle.
$79.99 for Ascend Tournament Kayak Paddle, fiberglass shaft not aluminum. Good value for the money.

Anyone else use a cheaper boat?
Looks like a great boat and being a Lund should last for ever.

Looking to buy my first boat
The Lund is a nice boat and from the photos in good shape but $4500 for a 92 seems a little steep. As another person said it is a safe boat for taking kids out. You could add a front deck later.

Another Boat!
You stole that!

PFD's and Pro Fisherman
I was watching the FLW Tackle Warehouse Pro Circuit on Lake Erie on TV. They are out fishing in 4 and 5 foot chop on Lake Erie and they don't wear a PFD. I know they wear a PFD when under way. Just wondering does anyone think they should they make the use of PFD's mandatory? Not saying they should but just curious if others do.

Best States/Regions for Kayak Anglers
If it were not for winter I would move to Marquette MI. There are big lakes little lakes rivers and small mouth bass, northern pike and more! If you could find work Kirksville Missouri has a wide choice of places to fish and one lake has Muskie. North central Missouri has a lot to offer but no big cities. Pick a city and spend some time on google earth and see what there is to offer.

MK Pro Series 46 vs MK Maxxum 54 w/ 52" shaft variable speed
I would run the Maxxum 54. It has more thrust and variable speed is another plus. You will see longer run time with the Maxxum.

Stiff stick stearing
Disconnect the steering cable at the motor and see if it feels like it is binding. If it is still binding could be you need a new cable.

Replacement Shift / Throttle too long
- Replacement Shift / Throttle too long
Replacement Mercury Shift / Throttle too long after repair. I took my boat in for carb rebuild and to replace the broke shift throttle control. They told me that the cables only come come in 10 or 11 feet and the original was 11 but coiled under the side shroud and causing a bind. They put an 11 foot but as you can see now I have a trip hazard. I am taking it back and they are going to use 10 foot should help a little. Any suggestions?- Rod Locker Pics ~
Nice rod locker. I see I am not the only one using some round reels.- Kayak - Trolling a bobber?
i doubt it is against the law anywhere but if you want to stay legal get a copy of the state fishing regulations. Usually available where they sell fishing license and more than likely from DNR web site.- Boston whaler
Tiny Boat Nation has some great builds mostly tin boats but no reason you couldn't adapt to your Whaler. You could get ideas from them on Youtube and https://www.facebook.com/Tinyboats- Advice First boat St. Louis area
A 16 t0 17 foot aluminum Deep V would work about anywhere. If you just want to get off the shore start with a kayak and fish the numerous conservation areas and small rivers.- Cranking your outboard before heading to the lake
I don't get out enough to have confidence it will start so I hook the water mufffs up the evening before to make sure it is going to start. Was going out last week and hooked the muffs up and had trouble starting and the controller broke again so had to go out in my buddies boat instead.- embarrassing boating stories
Brain fade today backing my budies trailer in to retrieve the boat. Like I forgot how to back up a trailer. - Replacement Shift / Throttle too long
