  1. I can HONESTLY say I haven't thrown a jig in the past year. I have them but I never need to throw them. It's boring......
  2. I put five buzzbaits on my A-Rig that I fish with a 6' M spinning rod and 8# mono....
  3. I love my Curado 200DPV 5.0:1 ratio, I've been grinding in big crankbaits for ten years now with it and it is still as smooth as new. I service it once to twice a year. As far as spinning Shimano Saros 2500 and my Team Daiwa Lexa 2500 are neck and neck.. My old Team Daiwa Tierra 2500 is right behind though. It is a workhorse as well...
  4. Welcome to NC my friend... You are right smack dab in the middle of two of NC's many reservoirs with one more less than an hour south of you.. Kerr is in your backyard, Gaston is east of you and right down US HWY 1 is Falls Lake. Oddly they are totally different from one another even though they are that close together...
  5. It doesn't work well with plugs that sit still or have slack line like walk the dog lures. Flouro sinks so it affects the action tremendously.
  6. I live on the NC coast so most of my fishing on rivers is done around docks, laydowns, and stumps that are covered in barnacles. I switched from 8lb flouro to 30lb up to 50 lb braid with almost a six foot 20 lb flouro leader on a 6'-6" heavy act. spinning combo. I will never go back to flouro or mono for sencos. It was trial and error at first with the leader knot, but I practiced many nights. Most wouldn't use the heavy act. rod but my hookset is a quick wrist snap after I wind down and feel their pressure. Also with the heavy act. rod I have more control of them in cover or to pull them around that dock piling before the barnacles slice the braid.I have one rigged texas weightless for heavy grass and one rigged with a 1/16oz 3-O Owner TwistLock Swimbait hook. The weighted hook makes the senco kind of shimmy more as it swims horizontally. If it's windy and I'm fishing the weightless in grass I will add a nail weight in between the offset of the hook and the point so it still swims horizontally. This is just my personal opinion though. I have less issues with line twist as well. I hated flouro on my spinning reel because after two - three trips I was respooling because it was developing to much memory. Braid will last a long long time if it's not left out. I fished eight months last year with the same spool of Power Pro Super Slick Hi Vis Yellow 50lb, just cut a foot or so off when needed to tie on a new leader. The yellow never disappears above the water, so if one breathes on it you'll see it. I'll even take and pull the line all the way off in my yard, cut it retie the end I was fishing with and respool to get to the unused line.. Never had the braid break in that span only a couple of knot failures and toothy fish. We fished at least three saturdays each month in that tournament trail. Once again, you asked for opinions so that is mine. To each his own. Some guys are "Self Proclaimed Pros", so their way is the only way and will say we're doing it wrong even though we are catching fish. Now on the other hand if I was using a baitcaster to pitch a senco I would go strictly flouro 17-20lb. One exception would be in the pads or grass. I have learned allot from the guys on this site, so I know why you were searching for opinions.. Good luck and may God bless you with bent rods and smoking drags....
  7. Thanks, I never went to the Shimano website.... They only have the 5.5 in the I series, I was hoping for 5.0 : 1..... There's always some on E bay, might go that route You can still get the E on the Shimano website and the big sportsman's store.I'm definitely getting an I..
  8. I own a Curado D series with a 5.0:1 gear ratio, I was on BPS website looking for another in either the E Series or the I Series. Am I overlooking something or do they not produce them anymore? I even looked at the chronarchs, the lowest I seen was 6.2:1.. I own to Revo STX's and don't want a winch because I fish near and sometimes in brackish water, the revo's frames are starting to corrode despite the fact that I clean them at least twice a year and rinse them after fishing.I own a Dawaii Lexa and Dawaii Tierra spinning reels, they are also corroding..My Shimano Saros spinning reel has zero signs of corrosion, same with my curado D Series.... Could anyone advise me on where,or if they make them... If I have to choose a different brand, IYHO which brand would ya'll suggest for anti-corrosion and reliability. I really want to switch to all shimanos eventually.. Thank you in advance for any replies...
  9. III remember reading about the tensile strength of leader line on this site in the past now that you mentioned it..... Makes sense since the leader is usually 2'-5' in length and main line has length for a little give on impact
  10. Cool, I meant the line doesn't want to twist as much when cinching uni or Alberto knots.. I'm definitely gonna give it a try..... Thanks for the input..... May all your lines stay tight and your rods stay bent!!!!! :-)
  11. Thanks, with the stiffer material does it affect the action of say a weightless senco? Less memory makes it easier to tie to braid, correct?
  12. I was wondering what the difference between the fluoro leader line and standard fluoro for filling your spool. Why is it so darn expensive and is it worth the price? I have been using standard fluoro for my leaders and have had no issues to worry about.....
  13. Get a couple of 6'-6" MED HEAVY Spinning Rod Combos.. They don't have to be top of the line, just don't go for the 25$ specials lol...Buy some Senco's in Green Pumpkin and Black/Blue Flake or just plain Black, get some Gamakatsu 3/0 Wide Gap hooks... I like 30# up to 50# Power Pro Green Braid with a 17# - 20# Flourocarbon leader around 5-6 feet.... I use the double uni knot, has not failed when tied cautiously, Braid can burn the flouro if you cinch the knot too early plus lots of spit.... I actually put the flouro knot in my mouth as I slide it to the braid knot.... If you are fishing light cover or in a pond you can probably just use some good ol' Stren Super Knot 10#.... Cast that worm under docks, trees, and stumps.... The base of steps that people have going into the water from their dock is always a must shot... Let that Senco fall on a slack but slightly arced line. Be patient, let the worm swim freely... If the line bumps, moves sideways, or stops before it should, wind down pointing your rod at the line, feel for the fish and using a wrist snap set the hook and don't give her slack.... In my opinion anyone beginning to fish should tie a Senco on, They catch tons of fish, big and small, they don't require a lot of skill to make lifelike, and are practically snagproof....... TIGHT LINES and GOOD LUCK with the addiction you are about to succumb to......
  14. Not a lake pic, but one of my favorite in the co-pilot seat with my dad on the Albemarle Sound in NC. Greenville Marine 2 day classic..... Left Plymouth,NC on the Roanoke River headed due East on the one of the largest freshwater sounds in the US.... Ran 40 miles and that d**n Motor Guide on the bow quit!!!!! Attempted to fish our wind blown points...NOPE!!! Went to the hotel and met my mother with the MINN KOTA we had from the old boat.... Fished the next day, same area and got a decent limit......
  15. I remember reading an article in the past about why a front's passing gives them lock-jaw... No joke, they seem to think that high pressure gives them something like head aches..... not to mention the lack of eyelids, overcast- fish roam away from shade and cover, bright sunny- they are tight to the shade or cover....... Jig and worm fisherman love sunny days because they know their fish will be tight and only move a few feet to feed... Im sure this is not new to most but just my two cents
  16. One interesting thing I've noticed fishing late winter/ early spring here on Eastern NC rivers is that we seem to catch a lot of pickerel right before the pre spawn- spawn period.... They seem to be the first fish to get active.... I.M.O....... Also tells me, since bass and pickerel prefer the same food, that there are bass in the area, just slow down a little maybe..... And yes they are excellent diced on the grill!!!!
  17. I know right where Cantonment is, we had friends that lived there.... We moved here to Eastern NC back in '94..... There sure are a lot of nice farm ponds and lakes down in that area... Some have some decent sized bass.. Well kinda neat to read a post from someone in the area I grew up in... Good luck with your fishing and watch out for those cottonmouths!!!!!!
  18. Where abouts do you live in NW FLA ? I was born and raised in Lillian AL and Paradise Beach FLA!! My dad and I fished the Perdido River, the Escambia River, Tensaw River-Live Oak Landing, Soldiers Creek, Miflin Creek, Sandy Creek..... Our favorite March camping trips were to Roland Cooper State Park on one of the locks of the Alabama River, Someone was guaranteed to catch a 7# plus....
  19. Definitely go to braid. Remember also that the weakest link between your lure and line is the knot. It will almost always break at that point because you are cinching the knot tighter as you land a fish in turn it will eventually cut itself. In my opinion anyways.
  20. SI thought any lake bordering state lines as long as you had a valid license for ur state which was one of the bordering states u could fish entire lake
  21. this week is supposed to be in the 70's with upper 30's at night. We had frost yesterday morning. I am in eastern central nc. Gaston should be cooler than my home waters since it is on the nc va border right?
  22. I fish there at least twice a year. We fish the Greenville Marine Tournament Trail. It's true about the smaller bags. Still see 6-7 lbers weighed in. The virus only affected lg mouth bass. Last I heard the virus is under control. It got to the point that we were told to clean our livewells after we put fish in there. So that it doesn't get transmitted to another body of water. As far as the fishing, the flooded gum-trees, willows, and nut-bush are awesome during the spawn. Lost a big one 2 yrs ago on a chart 1/2 oz buzzbait. probably 6+
  23. Anyone here know what stage the bass are in here in NC. I went to the Roanoke river, put in at Plymouth caught one decent 2-3 lber and a small striper Most fish marked were deep. Also our winds were out of the south alot here this winter too so the water temp is up quick, got up to 57.5 yesterday. Thats higher than normal. Will they spawn sooner this year. Cant wait to get to Gaston for the pre-spawn
  24. Yeah I can cast rapala sr7's a good ways and they are pretty light, the balance works well with my curado as it is not one of the lightest reels
  25. Just wondering if anyone has had any issues with them
