  1. well, if theres no shop at my lodge i guess i can always go to other lodge's shop... unfortunately, ordering from the US is not an option, some stores dont ship to Mexico, and the ones that do, are way too expensive... so, ill check what i can get here, or talk to the guide and ask him for some heavy line or something, but ill make sure i dont go there without the porper equipment... double digit, here i come!!
  2. so, theres a pro shop where i will be able to purchase line if i need to?? because locally here i dont think i will be able to find such a heavy line, i order most of my things from the US but theres no way they will make them by Nov 16, even if ordered today....
  3. then 12 lb fluoro is out of the question... i have 30 lb braid, ill see if i can find heavy mono.... thwe guide recommended 17 and 20 mono but ill use heavier if i can get it... thanx!!
  4. thats what im thinking for the local lakes i usually fish, to use a 12 lb fluoro leader....but we dont have submerged branches, only some weeds... from the pics i have seen of El Salto it seems they have a lot of submerged trees and i wouldnt want the know to slip or something....
  5. thanx!! braid it will be then... i just talked with a person that went there on Oct 19 to Oct 21, and said they got between 40 and 50 bass per day, in the 3-6 pound range, the best one being an 8 pounder.... and that was without a guide... i know i will have a great time if i catch 50 per day, even if all of them are 2-4 pounds.... but im pretty sure i have a good chance at beating my 5.5 pound personal best on this trip.... i cant wait!!
  6. thanx!! im going with El Salto Lodge, owner is named Siguismundo and gets lots of good reviews in the mexican forum.... regarding the line tip, thank you!! do you recommend braid then?? all i have is 30 lb braid, 12 lb fluoro, and mono in the 14-17 pound range.... the fluoro is discarded for this trip, but im not sure if the braid is the way to go for worms, and the highest pound mono i can get for cranks...
  7. 1) cranks, Browning Silaflex 6´6" M, with H2O Mettle reel 2) spinnerbaits, Jarvis Walker 6´6" MH rod with Quantum Code reel (just replaced the rod with a Veritas 6´9" MH, and the reel for a Revo S not shown) 3) worms, Falcon Clark Wendlandt 6´6" MH rod, with Quantum KVD reel 4) misc, Falcon Bucoo 7´M rod with the Code reel shown in the pic (not shown, i just got them) lying on the rear deck...
  8. thanx topwater.... i just got an email from the guide, he says the last 2 weeks have been averaging 45-50 fish per boat... i just have to confirm i will be able to take a day off work, and make the deposit... ill make sure to post a report once i come back...
  9. the most visible?? so, painting it black or green instead of the white it already is, would make it MORE visible?? hmmmmm
  10. hey. i had been using fluoro on my worm reel, with good results. but, i wanted to try braid, so i got me a spool of 30 lb H2O line.. the only time i used it, it turned white within a day, and, i caught only 2 bass, where i had been catching 10-15 with the same lures on the same lake... can the white coloration have a negative impact on the fishing?? i read about painting it with a sharpie, which is what im going to do next time i go out.... i also thought about using a 12 lb fluoro leader... however, im about to book a fishing trip on a lake with a real possibility of a 9+ bass, and i dont want to risk loosing it because the leader slips or breaks....
  11. well, this is the webpage for the lodge: http://www.elsaltolodge.com/trophy_gallery.html im not really looking for a "first class" lodge... im even willing to sleep in a tent, i only need first class fish... i have asked and they say this Siguis is a good guide... i saw other lodges that look like 5 star hotels, but they are way too pricey, and not really what i would call a "fishing trip".... on my fishing or hunting trips, i normally camp on my tent 3 or 4 days, dont have a bathroom or shower available, cook in my little stove or on the fire, dont even have electricity.... so, a bed and a restroom are a luxury for us....
  12. well, its closer than my "local" Academy.... mine is 250 miles away, into the US (i live in Mexico)...
  13. thanx!! i was concerned because on my archery days, i wouldnt want to store my arrows like that for long periods of time...
  14. i may be heading for El Salto on November 16... i got a quote of $430 per person, for 2 days of fishing, 3 nights of hotel, all meals included, as well as beverages and beer... its a 15 hour drive from El Paso Tx... btw, i have a couple spots in my car if somebody is intrested...
  15. thanx!! the rod had actually a small blemish, but i inspected it carefully and its only comestical, its missing a paint chip of about 1/4" long and 1/8" wide... i hope fish dont notice it...
  16. hahahaha sorry, i just cant help it... =)
  17. hey. has anybody fished in El Salto, Sinaloa?? i guess most of you have at least heard about it, since its not too far from the US... im planning a trip in about a month, i got a quote for $430 USD per 2 days of fishing, 3 nights at the campsite, all meals included, as well as beer and beverages... its a 15 hour drive from El Paso, Tx... BTW i have 2 spots in my car if someone is intrested... its supposedly one of the best lakes in the world...
  18. wont storing them horizontally (as in the flyfishing rods shown above) damage or permanently bend them?? i guess it would create a deformation over time... im thinking about building a rod/rifle rack... still looking for ideas... i guess wood is the way to go, but i dont really think wood would look good in my room... maybe PVC painted black?? if i ever do it, ill post up pics here...
  19. i dont have much experience with reels, as i have been only fishing for about 1 1/2 years... and other than my Quantums i have only tried my friend´s cheap reels from the Shakeaspeare $40 combos... but i guess i will like this reel combo a lot, i keep reading good reviews about the Veritas/Revo paired together...
  20. i just got a Veritas and a Bucoo, both of them with microguides... these are my first rods with micros... unfortunately i havent tested them yet but i hope i can get to the water next week... btw, you may want to check the local Academy, i got my Bucoo for $30 while its marked at 130 on the webpage...
  21. ok, i guess the general consensus is NOT to get a Magnetic-only brake reel... this, and the fact that i live in Mexico and i found a great deal on a new Revo S (same price as in the US, while normally things here go for 30%-50% more), helped me make up my mind... im ordering the Revo S probably today... i hope to have it soon, ill post my impressions here once i get it and fish it for a couple of days.... thank you!
  22. what about the Revo SX?? is it worth the extra $40 or so it costs more than the Revo S??
  23. thanx!! as i said, i will take function over looks every day, so, its not a deciding factor, i prefer a good dependable reel, even if its not as good looking as a cheaper reel... i also take good care of my things, my KVD was my first real baitcaster, i bought it new 2 years ago and it is still working great, i really like it... and i think i will like it more when i adjust the cent brakes... so, what should i get?? with so many reels to choose from, its not easy...
  24. thank you!! i really didnt know that.... i think this is the cause why this is the only reel i may get a backlash now and then... i will adjust the mag brakes next time i go fishing and see if this improves... so, between the Revo S and the Quantum KVD, which one would you choose?? price is very similar, but i would lean towards the KVD because of the extra brake adjustment... i like the Rev because of the good reviews i heard, and as somebody else mentioned, white reel on a white rod (Veritas) will look good, but, thats a minor issue, ill take function over aesthetics every day...
