  1. a lot of people that fish the ocean enjoy using dexter filet knives
  2. also if this was to pull double duty and throw topwaters that are slightly over 1/2 oz which one would be preferable?
  3. i am referring to the levante so its a 200 rod vs a 235 dollar rod for the alpha. it seems people like the jerkbait special (realistically it seems i wont go wrong with either), but can anyone comment about the differences?
  4. Granted I cant get the levante right now, but what just curious to hear people's thoughts between these 2 rods for topwater and jerkbaits. It would be amazing if someone had experience with both, but whatever feedback would be appreciated.
  5. i use yhb and while i get okay hooksets from far, the closer the fish gets the backbone of the rod gets extra noticable and i wish for a more parabolic bend to the rod. i don't want something like a crankbait rod, hence why i say something with a fast taper instead of an xf
  6. i use mono. i am currently using yozuri hybrid, but will probably be switching to sunline defier
  7. this would be for spooks and walking baits/ bigger topwater. i have a 6'6" medium fast for small poppers jerkbaits and i have a dobyns 735 for my frogs
  8. So I have a 6'10" Shimano Crucial that I use for topwater. it is a MH, but the only problem is it is a XF. While I like the soft tip for twitching, I do not like it when a fish is hooked because it hits the backbone of the rod too quickly (it was billed as a jig/t rig rod with the etched jig on the butt of the rod). Are there rods that are 6'10" MH, but a fast action, but with a limber soft tip? Thoughts?
  9. have a speed demon rod. id say for the price they are decent, but like others have stated above...i think i would rather just get a higher price rod on sale. usually can find rods 20% off msrp or sometimes 40-50 if on closeout.
  10. just wanted to update. for an 80 dollar its pretty good. has decent sensitivity and when it loads up on a fish its pretty smooth throughout the rod. i will say that it is not the crispest, but that i think is to be expected at this price point. this may have just been my rod, but the hook keeper bent out really quickly. probably was a fluke...
  11. i dont think so. ive done 1/2 oz with no issue. still has the magforce cast control so you can dial it in pretty well. i like to think of it as a tatula on steroids.
  12. i want to add that the new sv only has 2 ccrb which i assume are at the most crucial points vs 7 ccrbs for the coastal tws. that made me shy away from the sv unless you are going to be casting light light lures, which in the salt i doubt, i think it negates the advantages of the sv. plus i like the knobs of the older handle so that is another point of consideration.
  13. i have the coastal and the revo inshore. my personal opinion the upgraded bearings make a difference. i have a regular tatula i used and that is starting to get a little rough so if you are concerned about longevity i would get the inshore reels. i also used a lews for a season and that went pretty fast. you can get coastals for about 160 on amazon and also on ebay.
  14. ill probably get the diablo. seems like it would also be a decent skipping baitcasting rod for 3/8 oz jigs or weightless senkos
  15. I was leaning towards the diablo but the 3/4 oz lure max makes me a little bit concerned. I primarily throw 1/2 spinnerbaits/swim jigs/chatterbaits, but I imagined i would throw occasionally 3/4 oz chatters with a trailer. would the rod be overtaxed? Would it depend on if I use braid or mono? Just wanted to hear people with experience with these rods. Thanks!
  16. so wasn't able to use the rod much, since did not use bucktails more than 3 oz. but did cast it around a bit and it seems okay. since we are on the topic of reels, i will say for the price they are decent, but too much play, tolerances are not that great, but overall a good deal for the price (used an assassin). the thing is i can get a diawa fuego or a lews speed spool for not much more on sale( which you usually can find) that makes the reels not as great of a deal. i will report back to this thread after using the speed demon rod more
  17. haha so it sounds like the consensus is try and see what you like:P
  18. have you worn others brands and how do they compare to huk in your opinion?
  19. Wanted to hear people's experiences with these cooling fishing clothes. Do people have a preference of one over the other? We are heading to some really hot weather so wanted to see what people's choices are.
  20. if only there was an academy within 250 miles of me...haha
  21. so i have it in hand...initial impressions appears to be that it can cast 4 oz, but its at its limit. it could probably cast a 1 oz frog...but i would rather have a softer rod for most frogs unless im fishing in the thickest thickest stuff. on the other hand, this seems to be a very well made rod for the price and will see how the sensitive it is on monday when i bucktail with it in 80ft of water
  22. i see the 7'9" heavy that is rated up to 3 oz. that could probably work. i have the kastking ordered and will get back to you on how accurate that lure rating is. i have a tatula flipping stick and a dobyns sierra 735 that i can give some comparisons too for heavy sticks
  23. https://www.amazon.com/Piscifun-Backpack-Waterproof-Protective-Camouflage/dp/B07C7R9696/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=piscifun%2Bbackpack&psr=PDAY&qid=1563324416&s=prime-day&smid=A1RIL4ISDY2EWZ&sr=1-2&th=1 good lightning deal on a fishing backpack. looks very similar to the wild river one i have. very heavy duty construction and can fit quite a bit. for 60 and change very well worth it.
  24. just a thought but i wonder if they just cut down the flipping stick from 8' ft to 7'2" I could imagine those ratings to be true then..haha
  25. quincy is for winter flounder haha but i go down to RI about an hr and 15 min drive to fish off block island. i am hoping it fishes as labeled and i can bucktail 4-6 oz bucktails for the fluke. for my lighter fluke rod i do use a 7'6" flipping stick for my 2-3 oz bucktails
