Losing it
If you live long enough (and don't hide under a rock), you know.

Losing it
i got you beat. I did exactly this on a boat ramp while backed down with the trailer IN THE WATER!!!!! My only defense was that the truck was fairly new.

Metal Detecting?
Bought my friend a metal detector for Christmas some years back. Mistake. He found an old rusty dog collar and kept it. He's more hoarder than I realized.

Roaming Bass Lures
Come back when she isn't roaming. You won't see her, of course, but she'll be a lot more catchable.

Let someone buy a spot on your boat?
Sounds kind of like the concept of "You fly, I'll buy." This works great if you LIKE to fish with this person (regularly) and they don't attempt a guilt trip if they want to go out but you don't - OR if you want to go with someone else but can't because.... I think I'd try one season and see how it worked out.

How fast do you abandon a pond?
I fish two ponds which are within a hundred yards of each other. Their personalities are as different as night and day. Last Wednesday I stopped at one and fished it for awhile without so much as a sniff. Knowing daylight was burning I went to the other. I got several good bites (and one bass) on a wacky rig but it slowed down so I switched to the same bait (a deep(er) diving Shadow Rap (which had not produced at all on the first lake) but here it caught 5 nice bass and 2 dinks in about a half an hour. I was satisfied. I don't ALWAYS move on but something just told me.... (Luck never hurts, either).

Fishing Buddy Excuses
The equipment CAN, at times, make a huge difference but more often than not it's when it's used inappropriately rather than the "quality." One of my buddies sometimes fishes a frog in lilly pads with an ultralight spinning rod and 6 lb line. Uhh, not gonna work. Oh, he'll get plenty of strikes but hook few fish and bring even fewer in. I stopped using spin cast equipment years ago because there are inherent limitations of the design. But nevertheless, a really GOOD fisherman using it could still way outfish me using even the best gear. Then again, at that point it's probably because he/she has found the fish while I'm still spinning my wheels.

The Physics Of Fishing
To warm up your audience, tell them this joke: Did you hear about the nuclear physicist who went on vacation? He put a sign on his door which said "Gone Fission."

You know your old,,,,,,
When the 12 year old boy you take fishing can outlast you by at least twice.

The "things wives say" thread.
Do girlfriends count? Her: "I don't know why you think fishing requires a lot of skill or anything. I mean, it's not like being a professional baseball player or something." Years later, after getting consistently out-fished, she doesn't say this anymore. NOTE: I am NOT saying I'm that good. Just better than her.

What are the odds that fish are in this water?
Possibly some sunfish and, perhaps, a dogfish or two but it looks pretty shallow. It may winterkill and summerkill (if there ever were any fish to begin with).

Any auto mechanics on the forum
I could be wrong but isn't the overflow tank designed to receive coolant as it heats and expands (i.e., isn't supposed to be filled by the user)? I would think Overpressure can contribute to problems.

There's tough....AND there's TOUGH
Glad to know it isn't just me. I've learned to never take anything in late summer "personally."

Pro vs Joe
I think this applies to locals, recreational travelers, or tournament fishermen equally. IF I am aware that a big tournament is on a lake that I hoped to fish, I don't go. Same for why I don't fish from a boat on weekends. If, on the other hand, I, coincidentally, happen to be on a lake while a tournament is occurring, I do NOT change my habits for them. A public lake is a public lake is a public lake. Having said that, I try to be respectful to other boaters or bank fisherment-REGARDLESS s of their status. Will I leave a spot if someone asks me to? No. Will I "torment" them or "antagonize" them? Only if they have done so to me, first. What goes around comes around. Arguments have been made that for tournament fishermen this is their living and, therefore, should be afforded special "accommodations." From where I'm sitting, the opportunity to fish is as important to me (for my sanity and recreation) and has as much validity and importance as their respective career. Not more but not less. Besides, with few exceptions, if they are patient, I will likely move out of their spot eventually anyway (unless they get nasty). If they are as good as they want to believe they are, they will catch the fish I missed.

Average joe tournament
IF you want a tournament to be for pure enjoyment, take money and "standings" out of the equation. In the end, it is the skill of the fisherman that determines whether fish are caught and while, yes, certain tools are useful to that end, piling on lots of rules only makes an activity more cumbersome and less fun.

Are You Better with Successfully Setting the Hook...
The vast majority of the bites have been when I couldn't see the bait (or the fish) however, as I've gained experience, when I do see a bite, I don't ****** it away as much as I used to. Perhaps it's just these old reflexes crapping out on me. So, there ARE some advantages to getting old.

Johnson Weedless Spoons
With a few exceptions (where there are toothy fish (requiring leaders) or inline spinners-requiring a swivel) I don't like any hardware at all between the line and the lure. Regarding trailers, for this bait I like skinny unintrusive trailers. Others impede the wobble too much for my taste.
