Danica Patrick Wins
I'm with you Bassbrat! Hey, she beat the cream of the crop in Indy racing. Regardless of how she won, she WON! Every race is won by a strategy of some sort. Having grown up in Indiana, I am a big Indy car fan. My hat is off to Danica! Good for her to win. Let her enjoy her victory. For a girl who started in a man's sport and to get the checkered flag finally deserves praise. Regardless if this was her 50th or 100th race. I am praising her for her victory. Go Danica.

"Why we should Fish"
Thank you Big-O for the kind words! I believe we should fish is not only for the reasons I mentioned in my other thread, but also to keep the tradition going. Fishing as well as hunting, is under tremendous pressure from a number of 'do-gooder" groups like PETA, etc. We need to preserve, promote and protect our rights and traditions. It does concern me that sometime in my sons lifetime, fishing may start to be shutdown in this 'politically correct" world. The PC crowd is alive and well today! So, I suggest any chance you get to sign petitions, write to your congressmen, or let your voices be heard; DO SO!! You can bet the PC crowd isn't standing still..... I am in the process of looking for a new job right now. My ultimate job would be to somehow find something where I can contribute to the Promotion, protection, and preservation of fishing. I have many years in the Information Technology field in sales, marketing, and management. I would love an opportunity to find a way to make a living in promoting and preserving our sport. As you can all imagine it is rather difficult to find one that can provide a decent income, but I am open to a number of ideas. Even considered selling for a number of tackle companies, it might be less money than I am used to, but the fact that I would be in the industry that I love would make up for a bit of it. If this sounds like a shameless plug for me in finding a career in the fishing industry..... IT IS! LOL ;D Living in the Sacramento, CA area, the State Capital, I thought of even working as a lobbyist for our industry. If anyone is interested or has any contacts that would prove to be beneficial to me, or interested in passing my resume on to someone, please email me at "abelfisher@gmail.com". I can assure you this. If there was ever one who would fight to preserve this right of ours, it would be me. I have been involved in the political arena as well, so I know a little about the "real ways" to get things done. Anyway, didn't mean to turn this into a pitch for a job, but it seemed appropriate with the thread that Big-O started. Bottom line: Why should we fish? So we can continue to fish!

Sun Dolphin Pro 120 Jon Boat
Ozzey, I owned this boat before. Great little boat. Tri hull very stable. Lights, livewell, storage, fairly good size deck considering the size. I had a 4 HP Nissan (4 strike) on it, pushed me around at about 8-10mph. I weigh 220. Mine was outfitted with a TM, FF, as well. I also like the the center part, being lower than the deck. Easy to maintain. If I was in the market for a 11'2" boat again, I would have no issue buying another. I think you can put up to a 10hp 4 stroke, or 15 hp 2 stroke on it as well. I upgraded to an 18 ft Aluminum Fisher just because I wanted to get on bigger lakes and wanted more space. My son and I have many good memories in our little boat!

My Jon boat decking project is done!
That is awesome! You might consider putting a 13" pedestal on that rear seat. Then you partner could swivel all around and fish off the back, etc. Otherwise it looks like it could be limiting and confining. Don;t mean to criticize. maybe you do have one for that. But That is quite a beauty! ;)Great, professional looking job! Congrats!

Plastic bass boat opinions
http://www.cabelas.com/spodw-1/0031062.shtml I owned one of these for a couple of years (bought used) and then upgraded. It was a fine little boat. I had a 4 HP Nissan on it. It pushed it about 8 mph or so. It had livewell, storage compartments, lights, battery for Tm, plug in charger, ... a mini Bass boat. You might be able to find a used one. You could pitch off the front or back deck. Great for a small lake or pond. Oh, and it has a tri hull so very stable!

There goes an arm, leg, and half my...
For me, it,s not necessarily the cost for the gas in the boat. It's the cost of the gas for my tow vehicle (2005 Toyota 4-runner. 4L six cyl) when going fishing. My favorite spot is 2 hrs away, 4 hrs round trip. About $60-$65 in gas just for the 4runner) :'( :'( I don;t know what we as lowly Americans can do about gas prices, but surely something needs to be done. One of these days, we will get to the tipping point and all hell will break loose. >

Bent shaft on trolling motor - Help!
Ok, Late last summer I was out on Clear Lake, CA and decided to move form one spot to another. I had the trolling motor (MotorGuide 4300 Pro Series) placed on highest speed (5 & rabbit) as I was moving I struck an underwater log and the boat completely stopped. :'( When I tried to yank it out of the water, it was stuck. The TM frame was bent, the release pin was jammed in the slot, and the shaft kinked right at the bottom of the frame attachment. (The thing with the knob that holds it to the frame) After a few choice words and getting back home, I had to bang the frame back to shape, drill out the pin slots a bit, and using some boards and a sledgehammer, banged the shaft as much as I could to try to straighten back. But it is still kinked a bit and takes some foot muscle to turn the TM while using. Has anyone ever had this happen and able to get the shaft back to where the TM was easier to turn? I though about taking the whole thing apart, but it does not look easy. There are 4 rivets attaching the shaft to the head, thought about drilling them out but wondered if I would really be able to fix it even after that? Anyway, any advice from anyone on how to fix the bent shaft? BTW, The TM came with the boat (standard edition) Not real happy with it, but the best I got right now. Thanks!

Sharing Expenses on a fishing trip
Yes, you are right, Alpster. I just had an experince once where a guy I worked with went fishing with me. It was a long trip. I never said anything to him, thinking he would at least offer up some gas money. Nothing! Kind of ticked me off, to be honest. 4 hr round trip, etc. But anyway. I hear what you are saying,. But even these kind of egghe But you do have ads know the price of gas is up. When I was a guest, I would always offer up the gas money for the tow vehicle and gas for the boat. Afterall it was his boat and tow vehicle (wear and tear, etc) But you do have some great concepts and are right on.

Sharing Expenses on a fishing trip
Up until now, I have been fairly lenient on having my guests share much of the expense of a fishing trip. Too nice a guy, I guess... But now with gas as expensive as it is, how do all of you break it all down to a fair amount for the guess. With the costs of fishing going up these days. Cost such as boat payment (if any) insurance, maintenance, gas for tow vehicle, gas for boat, ramp fees, parking (if any), wear and tear on tow vehicle, etc. (Sometimes my trips are 2 hrs; each way) So what is a fair way to beak it all down and amount to expect from a guest when one joins in for a day of fishing? I want to be fair. Also, do all of you have to ask for the shared amount or does your guest usually just offer something up? What if you feel it doesn't quite add up to what you think is fair. Do you say anything or just suck it up and don't offer again. Just trying to get this season off to the right start with my fishing pals.

Sealer for boat cover
Compare the cost of the waterproofer to the cost of a new cover. It might be worth to make the little financial step to a new cover. Chances are the cover is old and will need replaced soon anyway. The stuff in the link above is $22 a bottle. If you would have to use a lot of that, it would make sense for a new cover.

Time spent on maint & care
Well, when it comes to my boat, I am rather anal about it. After a fishing trip the boat gets washed, hand dried, same witht the trailer and chrome wheels. A cleaning wax every other month. The inside gets vacuumed. Then there are the oil changes, the squeaks and stuff that all get attended to. For instance the trolling motor, I noticed it started to squeak when I would turn it. I want as little noise when I am over fish, so the bearings and gear get lubed. A trailer light goes, out, yep, gotta change it. Carpet spots form blood, etc, gotta clean it. It just seems there is always a little somthing that needs attention. Now granted, I am probably a little too anal about it. I could wait and do alot these things at once every couple of months, but I just dont like to have things un-done. That's just me. When I posted, Iwasn't really complaining, as I would rather piddle with my boat than stay stuck on the couch. I was really just curious about how much time others spend on their boats.

Adding another storage locker to boat, need help
Nice job on the boat, DELee! You did what I am wanting to do. I was thinking of having the locker walls made of fabricated aluminum as well as the additional framing and support. At least 2 lids. I will take you up on your offer of advice as I get closer to starting this. I underdtand the carpet issue on the lip. Again, nice job. BYW, what part of Indiana are you located? I grew up in terre Haute.

Time spent on maint & care
As am owner of an 18 ft Aluminum bass boat, I sure seem to spend a lot of time maintaining and keeping things up on my boat. How much time do you boat owners spend maintaining and keeping your boat in tip top shape? Also, any tricks or ways you have improved your maint. program on the boat?

Whooo Hooo !!! :-) It only takes one fish......

Adding another storage locker to boat, need help
I have an 18 ft aluminum Fisher Bass boat. I am thinking of adding an additional locker mayber 12-15 inches wide X the width of my boat. I would add it just in front of the console across the width. Obviously I would gain some additional deck space as well. I am most intersted in additional storage. Maybe making the rod lockers longer by opening the back of the current rod locker into the new locker... just realy thinking about the configuration. Anyway, have any of you had experience doing this in an aluminum bass boat?

Senko O-Rings
I love fishing wacky style. Never tried the metal o-rings, but have tried the rubber ones. Work fairly well. I just cant seem tot find the right size for the 7 inch Senkos in Qty without paying a crazy price for singles. ANyway, another way I have WRigged is with small black cable ties. I wrap the Senko fairly tight and clip the tag end off. I keep the snap on the bottom with the octpus hook on top. No prblem catching them. Also, I always use new senkos for T-Rigging, then once they get torn up they go into my WR pack. So I always have a fresh but torn Senkos for WRigging. Do you guys find the metal o rings tear the Senkos up quicker. ie no give like the rubber ones when a fish attacks?
