Memorial Day..... Urgggg....
LOL...I have three young children in my household, the NUMBER ONE rule is no whining or crying...especially over the small stuff. Everyone is allowed to have their fun on the water, most boaters are not idiots and are respectful, you are judging them off the small % of negative ones. You don't want our sport judged by the small percentage of dumb hicks, and bucket fisherman that get grouped in with us...the main issue is overcrowding, and if you don't want the crowds you have to move off the popular waters. I hunt quite a bit and there are always other hunters, hikers and mountain bikers...one of the big things is not just hunting my quarry but also hunting other hunters...by that I mean hunt off what the other hunters are doing and how they position the deer...we all want the pristine untouched land and water but in most cases its not a reality, you adapt to the current situation or move on. But, the most important thing is to step back relax and have FUN, because thats why we are out there.

Favorite Crayfish/crawdad Lures?
I've always been a big fan of the Paca chunk on a jig, but I picked up some Havoc Rocket craws this winter and have really been impressed so far this spring. I really like the antenna action combined with the claws flapping action and they have excellent colors too. I'm impressed enough that I don't see myself buying Paca's in the future. The Devil Spear and Pit Boss are not too shabby themselves.

How Not To Practice Your Flipping
Did you check his insurance policy? A lot of policies cover glass, even the bare bones ones.

Screamed Like A Girl

Storm Swimming Stick
They work well. I have a couple and have caught quite a few fish with them, they don't have as much action as a Magic Swimmer but they still work well, especially if you are going for a tighter motion. I prefer the Magic Swimmer over the Storm version but you don't have to pay the Sebile price. Check out the Cabelas real image swimbait, I've been really impressed with them, especially at $7 a piece.

What Did You Buy Today!?
Not today but a couple days ago I ordered two packs of sickfish and a Humminbird 561 DI fishfinder. It'll be my first fishfinder (was always a member of the bank beater club before) so I can't wait to get it setup and put it to some use. I wasn't planning on getting a ff but it is kind of an end of tax season gift to myself and now I'll be able to get off the banks during the hot days of summer.

Lawrance Mark 4 Dsi, A Good First Fishfinder?
Well the Lowrance isn't on sale anymore so it is out of the equation. I'm going to go with the HB 561 DI...actually, I'm purchasing it right after I get done typing this. Thanks for the info guys, I do appreciate it.

Plastic Storage.
I learned this trick from someone who posted it on here one time on how they keep theirs. He took the rings for your shower curtains and ran it through the holes in the bags. This is what I do now, only I use a pliable piece of heavy gauge wire bent in a bigger loop to hold more baits. I use to put them in gallon bags, but with all of the plastics I own you couldn't easily see everything in the bag and sometimes I would forget about some of the plastics I had in there. With the ring, all of the bags are easily accessible and I can easily pick up a ring and flip through the bags to find what I want. Also, you can easily open the bag while its on the ring to access your baits and don't have to worry about taking all the bags off the ring to get to a bag in the middle. Some bags are better than others as far as not ripping out where the ring goes through the hole. Berkely's havoc bags for example rip out quick and I don't even put them on the ring anymore. On the other hand Yum's bags are extremely durable where the ring goes through. So what I do is save my Yum bags and put my Havoc baits in the Yum bags. And to save on space I combine the same baits but in different colors into one bag and then switch baits from less durable bags into the better bags. You can also use a zip-lock sandwich bag if one of your bags rips out and just poke a hole under the zip part of it.

Lawrance Mark 4 Dsi, A Good First Fishfinder?
I read a comment about how you had to be moving for it to work and was wondering if that was true. I putt around in a 12' deep v so it will be on the back with me for both searching and when I am on a spot sitting still and fishing. This is why I was kind of asking the question...I guess I may go with the Bird 561 since it has both or maybe I'll step down to the Elite 4x color sonar...decisions, decisions, decisions.

Lawrance Mark 4 Dsi, A Good First Fishfinder?
Cabelas has this DSI sonar/GPS combo on sale for $200. I was wondering what your guys thoughts were on this unit compared to other units in the $200 range. I was also looking at the Elite 4x DSI, the Mark 5x DSI Sonar and the HummingBird 561 DI Sonar. This will be my first fishfinder so I am up in the air with what I want or how these compare to each other. I guess what I am really asking is what should I be looking for in buying my first fishfinder in the $200 range?

Culprit Spinnerbaits??
I have a White/Cart. one that I have had for years. I am not a big fan of the skirt material and the bearing is just alright, but I have caught quiet a few fish with it, especially pike/pickerel. The toothy critters seem to like it way more than the bass do, but it has held up well. I like my WarEagle and Terminator spinnerbaits a lot more, but if I was in the market for a less expensive spinnerbait I would pick this one up again. Keep your eye on the clearance aisle too, I just picked up a SK KVD RedEye spinnerbait at Walmart for $3 that is much better quality than the Culprit spinnerbait.

Best Plastic Lizards?
I don't use a lizard as much as I should, but I have had a lot of luck with the pre-rigged Creme lizards on the two hook rig with the propeller on the front. Man when bass hit that thing they murder it. I've also used the Berkley powerbait double tail lizard with success too. I see that Yum has a new lizard out with paddletail feet and a paddletail tail that looks very interesting and I might have to try. The problem is I already have more plastics than I'll use.

New Competition For Basspro And Cabelas?
I use to live right off Wolf Rd on Sand Creek. I'm kinda interested in where they would put it on the north end of Wolf. I wonder if they will go for a BPS off exit 17, the article I read in the PostStar said it was would be either or and that both stores were interested in the area and were aiming more towards Cabelas. It's be nice to be able to go somewhere else other than Dick's and Walmart for my hunting & fishing supplies/needs. Only been to the Sports Authority a couple times on Washington Ave Ext. but wasn't impressed.

Faircloth's Rigging Of The Swimmin Caffeine Shad???
I didn't see the coverage you're talking about but from your description it sounds like he was using Wigglefins ActionDiscs. Its a little circular cup you put in front of or behind (which ever you like best) your weight and it gives your bait a crankbait type action but with a very erratic action, kind of like what the new Rapala Scatter Raps are designed to do.

New Competition For Basspro And Cabelas?
That is awesome!!! I live 40 mins. north of Latham in the Glens Falls area. The closest BPS or Cabela's is 3-4 hrs away, I always wondered why they wouldn't put one in Albany, I mean if you travel north on I-87 on a Friday night or Sat. morning and look at the traffic heading north to Saratoga, Lake George or the Adirondacks it only makes sense to put one there. I lived in Albany for a few yrs and when I'd head north to visit the family on weekends the traffic was almost as bad as rush hour with people escaping to the Adirondacks. On another note there is talk about a Cabelas coming to my backyard off of Exit 17 that will be viewable from I-87 to catch the people heading north to the Adirondacks, but that is a good 5-8 yrs away. They are trying to develop the Exit 17 corridor with all the new microchip plants coming to the area and are looking at Cabelas being the anchor store for a new shopping mall and business district.

Fishfinder
Either that or what is your guys suggestion in $100-$150 range?

Fishfinder
Alright I may have upped my price a little more from my last post. I'm now looking at either the Lowrance Mark 5x pro or the Humminbird 561 or the Garmin 200. Any suggestions? I think I like the HB display better but if everything is equal I may go with the Garmin since it comes with a trolling motor mount. I may still go with HB 176i b/c I like the ability to drop waypoints.

Info About Ambassadeur...
If you want to burn it throw it on a higher speed reel but I don't have a problem creating a wake with my 5.5:1 reel. What type of fishing should I do with this reel Whatever makes you happy just keep it to heavier lures and presentations, that reel will do what you want it to. What type of line I'm a big fan of braid so I wouldn't tell you any different, but set your drag light when using swimbaits with trebble hooks What type of rod 7" MH fast tip. great all around rod

Reviews Forum?
Its a good idea, but trying to keep it to the product at hand can be hard. The problem that'll keep coming up is i.e. the Lews and Shimano posse's saying everything else sucks compared to them and downplaying the reviewers post that leads to a war of brand loyalty. Don't believe me??? Go ask about a specific reel and what other people think about it and see what it leads to.
-
Info About Ambassadeur...
Its the total opposite...that reel has the power and torque to work spinnerbaits all day (especially ones with larger blades). Its when you step up in speed that you lose torque and feel it in the reel. I have an Abu C3 4600 that I love for spinnerbaits, it runs them so much easier and smoother than my other reels its not even a competition.

Daiwa Lexa 100 Input Needed
You're obviously in love with the Lews TP, so whats the point of this thread anymore??? I lost where you're going with this, if money is no object when it comes to reels then why are you not asking about the pixy or their higher end offerings? Its a Lexa which has good reviews for its price point. Buy it, if you like it good if you don't, sell it and we'll all see you on here pimping Lews to the point where you'd think they were paying you. Your trying to compare two things that are not even at fair price points to begin with and if you don't mind spending the extra $24 to step up to that price point then you have already answered your question.

Homemade Marker Buoys
I was thinking of using some soda/Gatorade bottles, what should I use as a weight and what size weight should I use for river current. Anyone use anything else as a marker? I was thinking re-purposing one of those kiddie bowling sets that I think we have in the ever growing backroom of never used kids toys.

Which Finder Or Suggestion...
Alright, I was wondering. One of the reviews said it lost its memory when disconnected from the battery, I thought that couldn't be right but didn't want to find out he was right the hard way. I am really relegated to the 100-130 range I'd like to step up to the mark5 or Lowrance elite series but its not going to happen. So you guys are suggesting going with the 176i? The problem is I really like the wider coverage of the 180 (i know its not helpful at deep depths), which has me indecisive.
-
Oopsy Ike!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This should make for a good commercial for the boat and motor manufacturer's. They pulled the boat off the bank and Ike motored away, that says something for both companies.
-
Which Finder Or Suggestion...
I'm looking at getting either the Humminbird 180 or 176i and I am hung up on weather I want the 180 tri-beam with better bottom coverage and being able to tell which side of the boat the fish are on or the 176i which is a dual-beam with gps to mark spots. The problem with the 176i is that I would be taking the finder on and off the boat/battery and would lose my saved spots by taking it off the battery. As far as I have seen, if you disconnect it from the battery it looses the waypoints saved. I really like the tri-beam coverage so pair that with not being able to save waypoints with the 176i I am leaning towards the 180. What are your guys thoughts or suggestions at the $100-$130 price range? I can't really go outside this range.
