A fate worse than death
I started going to my wife's hairdresser after my regular barber's shop closed for the virus. Not as good of haircuts as my old barber, but now my wife can't complain about my haircuts since it is here beauty parlor lady cutting my hair.

Poppers
X2. And it is best to tie directly to the popper's eye with your 8-pound test mono as mono floats. As stated above, the snap puts extra weight on your popper which can disrupt the physics of the topwater bait. Try a RICO and see if that popper produces more strikes. The RICO has its own popping noise that, for some unknown reason, produces more strikes than any other topwater poppers I have.

Shocked by ned rig success?
Bottom bait. Will pick up everything on the bottom and then on top of the water column as you reel it in.

And one more observation: the more you know of the subject matter the harder it is to take a test. For those who have no clue, answering the questions is easy. For those who know the subject inside-out have a problem with the answer as they can apply the knowledge to the question in different ways. This theory is one of two things I learned from the Dean of the University of Richmond Business College when I was an adjunct professor. The second thing I learned is if you are losing your voice drink some Coke and it will bring your voice back. A politician's trick. You will do great in college. Have a fun time; meet lots of new people; make new lifetime friends; and go to all the football, basketball, and baseball games you can attend. One last thing: when you and your buddies want to go to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, be sure to: 1. Look at the young lady's Adams Apple when approached in a bar or in the street! 2. Keep some bail money in your sock. 3. Wear your college or an LSU sweatshirt to get the float riders to throw you stuff. 4. DO NOT WEAR ANYTHING TULANE as the riders are 99% LSU fans and you won't get anything thrown your way. 5. Don't look at the girls raising their shirts for beads or you will go blind.\ 6. It is OK to look into the strip club as you walk by. 7. Pat O'Brien's is a great place for college kids as the piano players know the fight songs of almost every college in America. 8. You can get a Hurricane glass at Pat O'Brien's to take home but remember, it is a sweet rum drink that will hit you in the head in an hour after you drink it. 9. Get a Cyclone glass, too, to take home. 10. Have a fun time watching the parades. 11. Don't tell your parents you went to the Mardi Gras until you get back to school or else you ain't going! Good luck.

Freshman High School Academic award
Fantastic! Congrats to you for a job well done. Now, it is time to head off to college and you will find out, very fast, that college is not like high school. No teachers' pets; no easy grades from the professors; very large freshman classes where the prof will present the material and he does not care if you get it or not; taking care of your money; washing your clothes; time management; lots of free time to have fun or fish; meeting some lovely young ladies, especially the ones at Michigan (prettiest girls in the Big 10); if you go to Ohio State you will get to know cows and mules (both animals and girls); going to the football games; yelling your head off with the other fans; and don't be surprised at the drop out/flunk out rate is high as a lot of kids who were high school pets cannot make it in the real world of college academics. I suggest where ever you go to college you go to the library and find out if they have old tests that you can review by your professors. At LSU the Middleton Library had the old exams for a few profs and we got together to study the questions and answers before the exams. So check it out. Just remember two things: first, it is harder to get out of college than to get in; and second, college will be the best 5 or 6 years of your life as you will make lifelong friends and have a fun time. Now go out there and meet some really nice and pretty girls and study, study, and study. Geaux Tigers!

Spawn on the James and Chick Rivers.
I have not had the opportunity to venture out on either river but with the full moon last weekend and the dogwood trees blooming I would think the spawn is on in both rivers. But don't worry about it. Just go out and hit 'em as hard as you can. If you want to call a tackle shop, I suggest two in Toano as they are the ones the guys go to for the Chick Lake and the Chick River: Fishing ProTech and speak with Lin, (757) 566-1278 Hookers and speak with someone who fishes the James and Chick, (757) 566-9050 Let us know how you do. And go visit each tackle shop if you have not done so. Good places for bass supplies.

Outstanding! Congrats on a job well done! Your wife is a special person. Take good care of her. Mothers Day is right around the corner, too.

Kerr Lake bridge clearance
Thanks, Kirby. With all the times I have blasted off on that ramp I never paid any attention to which bridge was which. Only which way to go after going under or by the bridges. Be safe and go catch some big ones with this beautiful weather we are having.

End of April in Virginia
Full moon this weekend coupled with the Dogwood trees blooming and the water temperatures going into the 60s paints a great picture for the end of April and start of May. The spawn is on and with early spawners resting and late spawners still seeking a good place for a bed you should be doing well finding the bass.

Bull run/ Northen Va Tournament
Try these organizations to find out if they have any information on Jon boat tournaments in your area. https://www.vabass.com/ https://www.vabassnation.com/ https://www.bassjons.com/ The first two are for bass boaters and the third one is for jon boats in the Tidewater areas. But maybe someone affiliated with these organizations can be of assistance to you.

Bass size in pond
Yes, you are correct. There is a "mother ship" around. In Richmond, VA, we have a pond by some office buildings that have a lot of dinks. But one day I landed the big one, at least 4 pounds (I do not take a scale with me) so I knew that she was enjoying herself in that pond all to herself. I added some bluegills into the pond for her so she would have more than a few minnows and smaller bass to eat. And I never caught her again. So keep looking for Mrs. Spock and post pictures. In addition, how about adding your location to your avatar so we can see where you are to give you better input. And try to cast out as far as you can as the big ones maybe above the thermocline in deeper water. Welcome to the Forum.

Bass size in pond
I would surmise that the pond is not managed and the smaller bass have taken over, driving the larger bass deep or having the big ladies die off. If all you are catching are in the 10" to 15" size then the pond is not managed.

Lake Anna
Thanks, Nitro. Seems the lower lake towards Dike 1 is producing more now than the mid and upper lake areas. Great report. Thanks.

Kerr Lake bridge clearance
Picture from this past weekend's junior state tournament out of Occoneechee State Park Ramp. Note the bridge in the background. Kirby, please confirm this is the Route 58/15 bridge into Clarksville. The Route 15 bridge is not in this picture but it will give you an idea of the bridge's height over Kerr. Check out Google for the Occoneechee State Park and you can see the bridges.

Lake Anna
Were you down-lake, mid-lake, or up-lake? Did you hit the docks and rip rap? I did not read "Wacky Senkos" in your report. Did you throw any stick baits wacky rigged, along with any trick worms rigged wacky, too? Fished any marinas or creeks with marinas on them? Just curious.

Stupid Tube Rigging Help
X2. Wet the jig head before inserting it into the tube and put the eye where you want it and then press down on both sides of the eye to bring it through the plastic. And as Walleyecrazy penned, if the hook is going beyond the length of the tube you are using an incorrect size hook so go down in the length of the hook.

Chatter bait for deeper water
Would lead tape or lead buttons on the Chatterbait be an option to add weight to keep it deeper? I use the Chatterbait as a spinnerbait so it travels over the tops of the grass and wood, but not to get it as deep as you are asking. Or, have you thought of putting a pegged bullet weight on your line above the swivel and fish the Chatterbait on a 16 to 20 inch leader like a Carolina or MOJO rig, pulling it fast with your rod tip up to keep it off the bottom but keeping it deep at the same time? Experiment and let us know what happens. This is the fun part of fishing. Doing something out of the box that no one else is or has been doing.

Local pond fishing
Get a paddle and along the bank use the paddle to make an opening in the grass at a few places. Make the area as wide and deep as you can without falling in the pond. Wait an hour or two or come back the next day and flip your plastic into the areas you cleared out along the bank. Let us know what happens. P.S. If it is safe and you have a friend with you, wade out into the pond about 4 to 5 feet from the bank and clear out the area. But only if you have a friend and a rope with you or tied to you. You may want to wear a PFD, too just to be safe. You never know where the "holes" are in a pond's bottom.

Scams!
Interesting post. I usually blow my boat's fog horn into the receiver to blow their ears off. I also will cuss them out really good and get into a cussing fight with them. I say my name is Mike ____________, and have them repeat it to me. In addition, I ask some filthy questions about their sexual apatite, even with the women. The women hang up much faster than the men. What bothers me most is that when I get through to a live person I get cut off, automatically. It's like they have my phone number plugged into their computer to disconnect when I press their buttons to be connected. Very frustrating not being able to blow their ear drums out, ask embarrassing sexual questions, or cuss them out.

Best advice to give newer guys
The best advice I can give you, as a newbie, is to keep a log of all fishing adventures. Put the details and what you caught, when, where, and how on a sheet of paper and put it in a three-ring binder. Once upon a time Glen had a fishing log posted on the Forum, but it was removed. Here is the link to it on Google. I suggest you download the form, make about 200 copies, and every time you go fishing fill it out, even if it is for only a short period of time. https://www.bassresource.com/fish/fishing_log.html Good luck and keep reading the Forum and ask your questions; subscribe to BassResource.com on Facebook; subscribe to Glen May's YouTube video's, and visit the web sites of your favorite bass pros.
