  1. My physician (Dr. John Verheul) suggested to Elaine and to me that we purchase the above book and complete it so when we ‘check out’ our spouses, children, girl friends, boy friends, and CPAs will have the information needed to make a Veterans Administration, Social Security, and other benefits plus life insurance claim, burial services wishes, business details, and any other claims or information you wish to include. Yes, we do not like to discuss our “checking out” but it is of utmost importance that you consider purchasing this book and having it in a place where it can be easily noticed when the time arrives. And for you veterans or spouses who are veterans, the Department of Veterans Services will make a presentation on your veterans benefits when you pass away. Don't think this book is for us old guys. Everyone needs to consider what will happen when we check out at any age and this book fills the bill. Just letting you all know as I mentioned this at my last American Legion EXCOM meeting and the guys were somewhat surprised that this type of publication existed. Enjoy!!!!!
  2. Yep, the only question is what species of fish?????
  3. Catt, you know to wait until first safe light to start going through any marsh. Here is to a fast recovery and that the mud smell goes away!!!! P.S. I bet the Rougarou was watching you.
  4. No idea. Never heard the term "pond weed" used to describe any type of grass. I found this on the Internet which may start you in the right directions: Pond Weed Types - Aquatic Weed Identification Information https://www.lakerestoration.com › c-68-weed-types Algae Duckweed Watermeal Water Hyacinth Water Lettuce Milfoil Hydrillia Curly-Leaf Pondweed Coontail Naiad Sago Pondweed Cattail
  5. Shimano, all the replies are good and I want to add one more: Birds! Watch out for birds! Once the birds (and turtles/snakes) know you have crawfish traps set they will attack the traps to get to the mudbugs. Make sure it is legal to shoot the birds if they get too aggressive. And of course, it goes without saying to check the traps carefully when you pull them to see if you have any underwater visitors who will not share the excitement you enjoy when pulling the traps.
  6. Gone, every geographical area in the US and across the globe has different kinds of grass, from hydrilla, eelgrass, milfoil, peppergrass, coontail and no telling what else that grows in your Iowa waters. All I can suggest is 1) post a photo of the grass for us to see and/or 2) ask DNR what types of grass you have in the pond and the details of how it grows and impacts the bass population. Let us know what you find out.
  7. X2. Growing up in south Louisiana we did not have any NFL teams until the 60s when the Saints came marching in so I liked the Green Bay Packers and Baltimore Colts. When Irsay snuck out of Baltimore in the middle of the night I wrote off the Colts, which to this day I still do not like them even in Indy. And if you recall, Bert Jones from LSU was the Colts QB along with Johnny Unitas before him but the move out of Baltimore sealed the deal for me.
  8. I think the only Ohio team that has a chance to make the playoffs are the Bengals led by Joe Burreaux.
  9. Water and electricity...you have to respect both as they can be uncontrollable and dangerous. I hire professionals to take care of any water or electrical situations at my house.
  10. Randy, I am not kidding when I say that I have around 250 or more pounds of plastic baits. I also have over 200 hard baits of different sizes and colors. Hooks, snaps, swivels, and weights all over the place. Rods and reels I no longer use but still keep around. Only fun about having all of this stuff is that it is going to drive my wife nuts after I croak trying to sell the stuff. As for other sporting items, other than for various tee shirts, white socks, Champion sweats, Champion shorts, LSU tees, polo, and sweatshirts, swim suits, and my old jock, everything is gone. I do have a football and soccer ball for the grandkids when they visit. And that's about it.
  11. Little Johnny Joke The first grade class teacher asked the students to name and make a sound of a farm animal. Little Bobby said "cows live on farms and they go moo." "That's right, Bobby. Good job," the teacher replied. "Little Susie go up and said that sheep live on farms and they go baaaaa." "Excellent" replied the teacher. Well, Little Johnny kept raising his hand so the teacher said, "OK Johnny, what do you say?" Little Johnny replied, "I go to my uncle 's farm during the summer to visit and he makes a great farm sound when he says, "Johnny, get off the *****king tractor."
  12. Yes, cash and a debit card. Use BPS VISA when making large purchases. And remember Daubs, if you go to New Orleans French Quarter you always want to hide some money in your shoe for bail, just in case. ?
  13. Haw, let me tell you a story about bass eating things as a bass will eat anything they think they can swallow, and sometimes things they cannot swallow. Fishing in a cove I noticed an acorn that had fallen on a small boulder. Nothing to be concerned about until I saw a squirrel trying to hop from a low hanging branch to the rock to get the acorn. Since this was entertaining (no bites for about an hour) I watched the squirrel do all types of gymnastics trying to get to the acorn. Finally, the squirrel jumped from the branch onto the rock and grabbed the acorn. He then proceeded to sit up and eat the acorn. All of a sudden a big bass leaped out of the water, grabbed the squirrel, and took the squirrel with him into the depths. "Now that is just Mother Nature's way of feeding a bass," I thought, until the bass jumped out of the water next to the boulder and spit out another acorn onto the rock. So to answer your query: bass will eat anything they think is food.
  14. Lots of differing opinions on such a simple question. All I can add is for you to 1) do your research on bait specific rods in the marketplace or 2) go with a graphite crankbait rod. I am sure that whatever you select will do fine.
  15. BG, great post. I have a friend that was in our bass club until he moved to Indiana and he used cheap rods and reels. When either broke or wore out he would throw it away and purchase the lowest priced equipment, including off brands, that he could find. So how did he do? He could wax anyone's behind on this Forum with his cheap equipment. We did great in tournaments and landed some big fish money with his cheap equipment. As for me, I love my Bass Pro Shop Extreme rods (no longer available) when compared to my G. Loomis NRX rods for overall fishing. I do use the NRX rods now in tournaments, only, using the Extreme rods for all other fishing adventures. Go figure!
  16. Welcome Diehigh. In addition to reading the posts on the Forum and asking your questions be sure to "Like" Bass Resource on Facebook and watch Glenn's videos. He still has some great tricks up his sleeve and although sometimes you get irritated with Glenn for giving away the secrets we still love him and his wonderful wife. And sooner or later you will learn the small things that make a difference when bass fishing and Glenn's Facebook videos will start you down the right path. Glenn's presentations are the start to an excellent beginning of your bass fishing journey. Good luck and post some pics of what you catch. P. S. Please add your geographical location to your avatar in addition to the places you like to fish so we can give you more specific replies to your queries based on your location.
  17. Welcome to the Forum. Be sure to post pics of the Plaza all lit up for Christmas!
  18. Koz, the biggest difference between northern and southern fishermen is that us southern guys speak normal English and are easy to understand.
  19. No, never cut school. Fished all afternoons at Audubon Park Lagoon in New Orleans when not playing touch football with the local guys in my gang. Fished weekends with my uncle and cousins in the Biloxi Marsh, Mississippi Sound, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Chandeleur Islands along with some Saturdays in the Atchafalaya marsh area. All were great but I was really uncomfortable fishing the Atchafalaya in a small, metal 14-foot skiff with a 9.9 on it as the moccasins were about two feet tall when they were curled on the bank watching us float by. A few times they would be in the water and "ping" the side of the skiff when they struck it but they never got in the skiff. We called this time in our lives "the best times of our life."
  20. Do you mean Barry Sanders??? Do you mean Barry Sanders????
  21. Back in the 70's I lived in New Orleans so I had the opportunity to go to some Saints games. I was in the stands when Tom Dempsey kicked the game winning field goal as time expired to have the Saints win the game 19-17. I also remember Alex Karras walking around the field in disbelieve after the kick went through the uprights and we went wild in the stands. According to the Internet, "Tom Dempsey is most widely known for kicking a 63-yard field goal as time expired to give the Saints a 19–17 win over the Detroit Lions on November 8, 1970 at Tulane Stadium in New Orleans. Prior to 1974, the goal posts in the NFL were on the goal lines instead of the end lines. The 63-yards was the longest field goal in NFL history at that time." Dallas head coach, Tom Landry, tried to get Dempsey's special shoe disqualified as Dempsey's foot was disfigured as he did not have toes on his right foot so he wore a special shoe to kick field goals. Landry's efforts failed. Today, I saw it happen again when the Detroit Lions lost to the Ravens when the Raven's Justin Tucker's 66-yard field goal defeated the Lions 19-17 as time expired. It only took 47 years for it to happen again. And it happened to the Lions, too. Isn't life great!!!!
  22. I road my two-wheel bike without a helmet. Used a red and white spoon for bass fishing when we did not have live bait. Went swimming in the Gulf of Mexico without any concern about pollution. Bought sporting goods from Sears, and they were the best. Saw the NBC turkey turn into colors for the Rose Bowl game at my aunt's house as her husband's family owned a furniture store and they had a color TV. Going into the marsh to fish and to get shrimp and being the only people around for miles and miles. Paddled around the marsh in a pirogue and then took turns turning it over without regard for alligators or other animals in the water or grass. Never wore a PFD when going fishing or boating. Got as red as a lobster on weekends and peeled off my skin during the week, not being concerned with skin cancer. Fished Audubon Park Lagoon in New Orleans as thunderstorms arrived as the fishing was fantastic right before the storm hit us and we were never concerned with lightning. Changed into swim wear in the back seat of car when at the Biloxi beach in Mississippi. Walked and fished the sandbars in the Mississippi Sound putting our catches on a stringer around our waist without regard for sharks or other predators. Were we stuipd or what?
  23. OK, here is a clean one. A guy is driving along in the country at 50 miles an hour when a three legged chicken runs along next to the vehicle and then speeds up. So the guy upped his speed to 60 miles an hour to catch up with the three legged chicken and the chicken knocked it up a notch to 70 miles an hour and whipped past the car. So the guy went 75 miles an hour just to have the three legged chicken run along side the car and then with a burst of speed, the three legged chicken cut in front of the car and headed up a dirt road. Well, the car's driver had never seen anything like this so he hit the brakes, did a flip, and headed up the dirt road to catch the three legged chicken. But he only saw a farmer standing in the field so he drove up to the farmer, stopped the car, got out, and walked up to the farmer. "Did you see that three legged chicken?" the car's driver asked the farmer. "Yep," replied the farmer. I raise them." "Why do they have three legs?" asked the driver. "Well," the farmer answered, "do you like drumsticks?" "Yes" said the driver. "Does your wife like drumsticks?" "Yes" said the driver. "Do your children like drumsticks?" "Yes" said the driver. "So that is why we raise three legged chickens," the farmer stated. "But how do they taste?" asked the driver. And the farmer replied "We got no idea. We haven't caught one yet."
  24. Can't post them because they are not appropriate for youngsters, but they are really funny.
