So you have the luxury of fishing hard, moving baits while the rest of us in the USA have to use plastics when the moving bait bite goes away. How about a list of the baits you use so we can see what you are throwing?

Wife goes to estate sales and one Sunday we drove to a sale in an upper class neighborhood on a beautiful lake and I started to look for fishing items. Found two old, broken down spinning rods that had not been purchased and I looked at the reels. Shimano 2000 Stradic spinning reels were on the rods and they were asking $10 for each. Kept the reels and gave the rods to a friend who repairs rods and reels so he could have the line guides.

The guy at the front of the boat has a tremendous advantage over the guy at the back of the boat. This is called "back boating" when the guy up front hits all targets first, leaving very few targets for the guy in the back of the boat. Solution: As you mentioned above, change positions every 30 minutes. This gives each of you time at the front of the boat to hit the best targets without getting feelings hurt or making the guy in the back of the boat angry. And yes, if you can have both of the guys on the front fishing deck that could work, too, but you will still be in each other's way and both will want to cast to the same targets at the same time.

A "chunk" is what is shown above and it is used as a "trailer" to make your main bait mimic a crawfish or bluegill. There are hundreds of "chunk" type trailers that are for your jig presentations so Google "jig trailers" and you can see the pictures of what they look like. You use a "chunk" to "bulk up" your jig and other moving baits' profiles to make your presentation more appealing to a hungry or mad bass. The "chunk" also will impact the fall rate of your plastics and jigs depending on its size. You can use a "chunk" with either slow or fast moving tentacles. The Rage Tail family has fast moving tentacles while other baits have slow moving tentacles. A lot of guys will use the Rage Tail "chunks or trailer" in the warmer months for their fast action while other guys use them all year. The Rage Tail's fast action tentacles is what makes the Rage Tails an excellent "trailer" to use by themselves or on jigs, spinnerbaits, chatterbaits, buzzbaits, etc. I use them on my half-ounce jigs in the same family of colors of my jig skirts.

John, the Dogwood trees have bloomed so the bass are on their beds. As stated by Bubba 460, the spawn lasts for a few months. In fact, the spawn can start in April and go all the way to October on various bodies of water. Do you have a bass boat? If so, there are many places to fish. All you have to do is find the ramps, which is easier said than done. Go to Green Top or BPS and get the GMCO maps of the waters you want to fish to find the ramps and also get a feel of the places you go. While at Green Top or BPS pick up a free copy of the Freshwater and Saltwater Fishing in Virginia booklet as it is full of tips and laws/regulations and places to fish all over the state. As for bodies of water to fish, fish them all! Start with the Historic James River out of Osborne Landing and then progress up to Route 5 and fish the Chick followed by Lake Anna at any of the marinas and Lake Chesdin via Seven Springs Marina. Plan on launching at Hopewell on the Appomattox and fish that river, counting the water moccasins as you drift along. They will leave you alone so don't worry about them climbing into the boat from your big motor. ? Then find the ramps on the Mattaponi (Walkerton) and the Rappahannock (Hicks and Hopyard Landing) and the Pamunkey (Williams) followed by Lake Gaston (Poplar Creek) and Buggs Island (Rudds Creek or Eastland). Don't forget Sandy River Reservoirs and if you really want to go after the big ladies hit Briary Creek. And if you like heavy traffic and high ramp fees you can go up to Hope Springs on Aquia Creek and fish the Potomac and Aquia Creek. Just watch the weather as the Potomac can be a difficult place to control your boat in high winds. When fishing local Virginia rivers the tides play a very important role. Get one of the guys to fill you in on the height. Also remember that Kerr can rise over 6-feet of its normal pool level, if not more, if it gets a lot of rain runoff so call this number for the lake level. 300 is normal pool, 434.738.6145. Start a library for your books and use a three ring binder for specific magazine articles that you want to refer to in the future. 3. Visit some of the pros web sites, like Woo Daves, https://woodaves.com/, for their tips and suggestions. 4. Subscribe to the various pros and manufacturers YouTube videos. 5. For any topic you have a query, post it here and then go to YouTube to find additional information. 6. Realize that the simplest colors for plastics will do well: green pumpkin, watermelon, and Junebug. You don't need hundreds of colors, although it is fun buying them. Look for articles on which plastics colors do well in what water clarity such as Junebug for stained water; watermelon for clear water; and green pumpkin for all water. 7. Consider spending some money and join Bass University. Great videos on so many subjects by so many pros. 8. Be careful and do not fall for every bait, rod, reel, line, boat, trailer, motor, sonar unit, etc. the pros hawk. Read and watch what the pros have to say and then wait a week before making a purchase. Something better is sure to come along in a week or two. 9. Check out the pros' and manufacturers' sites on your Facebook page, and remember #8 above. 10. Then sit down where it is quiet and read, read, and read.
