SpyDoctor, great having you with us. Seems we do not have many members down in the Southampton County/Franklin territory. Have not fished the Nottoway in years. Last time out had a blast. Great fishing. Of course, you have to put up with those wake zones which can cramp your style but so is life on the Nottoway. I want my bass club to fish the Nottoway in 2017 but I received a lot of push back from the members. Seems they are not familiar with the river east of Franklin; have to pay a high North Carolina fishing license fee to fish for one or two days in the Chowan; and they tell me there is a lot of debris in the river. So set me straight on the Nottoway. Do we have to go into the Chowan or stay in the Nottoway and Blackwater, only? Any debris in the river? If we go up river are the snakes still all around, like past the plant area? Many tournaments on the Nottoway during the year? Thanks for the feedback and once again, welcome to the Forum. GT, my experience with the BPS service department has not been good. I have had to take the boat back on a number of occasions to have the original repairs redone. Also, found out that a young man who is not a Mercury qualified tech was working on my motor but they charged me as if the work was done by a Mercury tech. Seems that the Richmond BPS can't seem to retain Mercury master techs. The last one I knew took the same position in Florida, leaving the Richmond BPS without a Mercury tech. I no longer take my outfit to BPS for service. I go to a place that has a Mercury tech on staff. I also was told that BPS service department could not obtain a part for me. So I called the manufacturer and ordered it direct. When I told the BPS people what I did they changed their story about getting the part and said they were on the "wrong parts program" on their computer. Made no sense to me. Glad you love your Nitros. I see many on the water these days. Be safe and have a great Thanksgiving.

Bruce, many years ago I spoke with my brother who is an attorney about a simple hook remover that I was thinking of producing. I also obtained data from the library on how to file for a patent. Results: 1. Filing for a patent is not easy. You may need legal assistance along with a draftsman. Go to your local library and look for a book on how to file a paten or check it out on the Internet. 2. If your invention is successful the Chinese will copy it and flood the marketplace. 3. You will not be successful if you sue the Chinese for the illegal production and sale of your patented invention. 4. Patent attorneys can have high hourly rates. Check out how to file for a patent and then decide if you want to continue your efforts by yourself or with an attorney. Good luck.

Wayne Knabe in the great county of Powhatan, Virginia, repairs rods and reels and he told me that the higher end reels have more metal gears than the low end reels that have more plastic parts. And that's the difference. It boils down to your philosophy: Use a low end reel and when it breaks throw it away and buy another one. Use a high end reel and use if for many years via normal, annual maintenance. Your choice.

My man cave is full of fishing tackle. But since I am not crazy about having fish on the wall I must admit that all I have is a clock, mirror and some prints of freshwater fish. I will try to remember to take a photo and post it.

Crusty, great article you penned. Remember there are floating docks that are used on some lakes and rivers. Know how to fish them, too. May I add that the closer to the water the dock the better it can be. High docks can hold bass but those close to the water are usually productive. Keep up the good work.

Atomic, that is why I posted it. Actually, never heard of a bull shark in the James system but who knows. As you say, the bull shark can swim way up rivers. Congrats on our pregnancy!!!!

Yes. Do it all the time. Although the angle is not 180* straight down, the bait will hover off the bottom and above or near the top of any grass. I cast the bait as far as I can and then walk it back, stopping when I hit a rock or some grass and let it just sit there for about 15 to 20 seconds before I move it again. The bait will move with the current or you can move it by twitching your hand a little. Give it a try.
