Very loyal to brands. On all levels, in and out of fishing. Used to love Sears basketballs when I was growing up. Great on concrete surfaces. Dixie Beer was a fun drink. Bike Athletic has closed their doors. Many products that I was loyal to while growing up and learning bass fishing are gone. But that is life.

I would like for my wife's back and hip to be repaired; have her lose the debilitating pain; get her off all of the pain meds; and have her join me on the water this year. She either lays down on the back deck or sit in the seat and reads as I do some fishing. We then have a "picnic" and watch the birds and beautiful scenery you see on our American lakes and rivers.

The sun and wind on my skin. Very sensitive to skin cancer and try to protect my exposed skin and best as possible. Also get a total skin scan once a year by a dermatologist.

Where are you and what BPS did you visit? Please add your location to your avatar. Each retail store has a fishing department buyer who stocks the fishing section based on past sales and new items being introduced. Maybe your BPS is waiting for their new rod shipments. Or, maybe for some unknown reason the buyer wants you to order on-line? The two BPS stores in Virginia, Ashland north of Richmond and Hampton Roads in Tidewater carry strong assortments of both salt and fresh water rods, reels, baits and tackle. So there is no reason your BPS does not. May I suggest going back to BPS and asking to speak with either the fishing department manager or buyer and tell them of your situation and find out if they will be getting in additional stock in the near future, especially for their February sale. And now is the time for us all to do our homework on new equipment in anticipation of the BPS February sale. Good luck and please let us know which rod you finally purchased.

It is beautiful. A great addition to your family room or den. And great story, too.

My grandkids love to climb over the boats and four wheelers at BPS. They will note the various animals; check out the aquarium; have lunch or dinner in the restaurant; but they are not interested in anything other than the boats and four-wheelers. Still fun to take them to BPS even if they are not interested in fishing. Of course, they are 6 and 4 so not being interested in fishing is not unusual at that age. Give them a few years and I am sure they will want to join me for some fun time on the water.

What would have been great is that when the tiger gave up and the duck was swimming a big 8 to 10 pound largemouth came out of the water and ate the duck.

I contacted TravisinVirginia on this site and started a conversation about joining my local bass club. We hit it off great via the Forum and exchanged telephone numbers and he said he was interested in checking out the club. Seems Travis fishes some of the same golf course ponds I fish and we discussed them and other places to bank fish in the greater Richmond area. Travis told me he was going to the Richmond Fishing Expo and I said give me a call when you get there Friday morning and we’ll catch up. So he did and he told me that he had his young son with him. No problem. So I meet Travis as he walks into the show and we introduce ourselves and then he looks at me and says he has seen me before. News to me. I don’t recognize him. He then proceeded to ask me if I have ever been to Buford Road Pharmacy? Of course I have, for about the last 30-years. Still go there today as we live 2 miles from the village of Bon Air. Then he lays a bomb shell on me: he is Travis, Ron’s son, who used to work his dad’s pharmacy when he was in high school. Ron now owns a pharmacy on Lake Monticello in Fluvanna County. And I remember Travis running around the store. He was a nice kid. I have not seen him in at least 10 to 15 years. Travis has grown another foot; has a beard; has a successful career; married; and his young son is a cute kid and very well behaved. I asked Travis to say “hi” to his dad for me and we are going to make plans to do some bank fishing after winter goes away and also hit the big rivers in my Ranger. Small world, isn’t it? Really blows my mind.

OK, one more. Wife and I are in Talbot's at the Stony Point Fashion Park in Richmond with about 20 people in the store. She turns around to face me and asks me what I think of the dress she is holding up. And I replied, "you'll never get your fat ass into that dress." You should have seen the looks on the other people's faces. My wife just snickered back and went to try on the dress. I just could not help myself.

Great one. We have specific jargon to bass fishing that we take for granted but get others' attention and dismay at times. Like the time I told my wife that I like nice fat and long worms while in the grocery store. One lady turned and looked at me with a quizzical look. One can get into lots of trouble using bass jargon. And I think we had a thread on this subject a while ago asking the guys what they could say that makes perfect sense in bass fishing but will be out of place outside of bass fishing. If you give it some thought it is very funny.

Yes. J is totally correct. Have a letter from the HOA or owner giving you permission to fish the waters. I also suggest contacting a knowledgeable person at both the Maryland and Delaware game departments and ask them for their input. I remember the legal battles over the question of public domain waters in Louisiana when the Mississippi River floods. I don't recall the legal outcome but anyone down in the Sportsman's Paradise who knows the outcome please post it for us.

Sorry to have to tell you that sometimes you can't fish when it is cold outside. You stay inside and reorganize your tackle and practice your flipping and flipping in the garage.

C22, let's face it. The more we move southward the worst the winter weather gets as we do not have the plows and other machinery at hand to clear the snow and ice in a fast and efficient manner. Add to this the mix of northern drivers who know how to drive in snow and us southern drivers who think we know how to drive in the snow. Chaos a best. Most school districts have to obey their state's attendance rules that state if one school bus route cannot be used due to inclement weather then the entire school system is shut down until that one route can be reopened and used safely. So in the greater Richmond area our schools were closed last Monday through Thursday until VDOT and the City of Richmond could open all bus routes for safe trips to and from school.
