Toxic, one day I have to show you a "Senko" bait that a guy gave me a few years ago and no one at GY's place ever heard of it or had seen it. It may not be a Senko, but it sure looks like a Senko. I have the number I was given for this color in my Senko stash and will try to pull it out this weekend and get the info to you. It is supposed to be fantastic on the Chick River. More later.

Big trees down in my Bon Air neighborhood. Cherokee Road closed by my house; other streets blocked with fallen trees; power is out due to a big tree taking down a power pole and lines at the intersection of Cherokee and Saratoga Roads. But overall, not much damage to businesses or homes.

Depends. If the tournament rules state you need a working live well, trolling motor, over 50 or 100 horse power motor, you are within the boat's length limitations, and your boat meets the rules perquisites you are good to go.

We lost power in Bon Air, by Bosher's Dam at 8 PM last night and our generator has us up and running. We are the only house in the area with power. 450,000 outages in the greater area, with 25,000 in City of Richmond. Was going to drive to meet a contractor at house we are renovating but I have no idea if I can get out of neighborhood. Of the four ways out, two flood and we have trees all over the place that could be blocking the roads. Hope Lake Chesdin does not get clobbered as we have a tournament on Saturday (tomorrow). Will be interesting to see the height and color of the water and if there are debris floating around. Last time we tried to have a tournament on Chesdin the State Police closed the road to the ramp due to high water. No idea if we have high water on River Road but will find out, soon.

Weatherman on TV said Georgia had a Cat. 1 hurricane go through the state for the first time. Very strong and powerful storm giving people little chance to evacuate and get their house and businesses ready. We could have 30 to 50 MPH winds in Virginia by the time it arrives and then heads out to sea over Norfolk.

Do you guys know that the only married guy on the Andy Griffin Show was the town drunk, Otis Campbell, who was always in jail? All the other characters were single. Go figure.

Don't get caught watching the pant dry... With hurricane Florence, much of North Carolina got slammed as did portions of South Carolina. But because of the track of Florence Hampton Roads /Southeast Virginia did not see much of anything even though a lot of the TV foreasters and other weather sources went crazyover the track of Florence. It is important to keep in mind that WxRisk was 1 of 2 sources which said that Florence was not going to be a big deal for Hampton roads. RE: MICHAEL -- With this even, Southeast Virginia and Northeast North Carolina ARE going to see significant impact of Michael. Because the hurricane is intensifying as is approaching the Florida coast. If it turns to the northeast, as it is likely to do, and stayed near the coast, Michael is only going to weaken to a certain degree. This means there will be winds on the coast that could gusts up to 60 to 70mph for Northeast North Carolina and for Hampton Roads. It also means increased coastal flooding risks storm tides and enhanced rainfall. I will have more on this later with a special focus on North Carolina especially Northeast North Carolina and southeast third of Virginia as well as the lower Virginia eastern shore. But again my main point is for Southeast Virginia which missed the brunt of Florence and did not get the rain or the tornadoes that Central Virginia did. Fly, they are very good fighters and you will have a blast catching them. Just watch their teeth.

As WRB says, use good quality snaps on crankbaits. Do not use snaps on plastics or on spinnerbaits or buzzbaits, unless you use the yellow garden tractor fuel line cut into 1/8 inch sections and put over the front of the spinnerbaits/buzzbaits. You can then snap the snap between the yellow fuel line and the front of the bait. Was taught this by an old pro at a Bassmaster University class many years ago, and it works. If you ever fish a tournament you will need snaps for your crankbaits, spinnerbaits and buzzbaits to change them out faster than taking the time to tie them on your line. Also, you can use a safety pin to keep your snaps so you can find them easily in your tackle box and then remove one as needed with no problem. Another pro's trick. Just open the safety pin and put a bunch on it then close the safety pin. You can use any size safety pin you want. Have fun experimenting.

Wow! Have them down south in Swift Creek, too. People must be transporting them to places outside of the Potomac. Only problem killing them is that they are so bloody. Keep up the good work.

Live bait vs. lures.Which is better? - For catching fish its live bait. For the sport and challenge of fishing you use lures. Also if I wanted to try using live bait off a Sit On kayak, what equipment would I need to help me? - 6' to 6'6"' medium with fast tip spinning rod with 8 pound fluorocarbon test on the Shimano 2000 size reel depending on the amount of space you have to maneuver the rod and cast. Add a bobber on your line about 12 to 18 inches to keep the minnow in the strike zone and so you can see when the minnow is hit. You will need to tie a minnow bucket to the side of the kayak to hold the minnows. Also will need a net to get the minnows out of the bucket unless you just grab them with your hand. Big minnows will produce lots of strikes. Add a landing net; needle nose pliers; scale; phone with a camera; extra hooks; extra bobber; cutting knife; and go out and have some fun. Also in need of some general gear information for using live minnows. - You hook live minnows either ether through their lips, in front of their tail, or under their backbone. Keep trying. Throw parallel to the bank or to and from the bank if you are in a boat. Try to stay above the grass and be sure to fish any changes in rocks, grass, open areas, wood, and anything in the water that could hold bass. Clean any gunk or grass off crankbait before throwing it again. Sooner or later you will hook one and have a good fight.

Best times to get new equipment and baits, etc. are: Day and weekend after Thanksgiving December 26 and the following week First weeks of the new year February when the bass season starts and the fishing shows begin around the country Of course, there are sales going on for various equipment and tackle and unless we are told of them by our fellow Forum members we will miss them. We have Columbus Day on October 8th so maybe you can find a Columbus Day sale somewhere. Otherwise, you have to wait for Thanksgiving for the major sales. So to all out there reading this thread, can you let us know of anyplace that is having a sale?

Richard, first...fantastic catch. Congrats. Second, she is gorging on baitfish for the winter. Keep the place where you caught her a secret.

First, GMCO had no maps of Chesdin available so if you have a GMCO map of Chesdin guard it like gold. Maybe GMCO has released an updated map but I am not aware that they have. Second, the area you described is overfished. From the power line bank with the big rock to your left as you enter, around to the boat docks, then the lily pads, followed by the bridge and then the bank to the cove can all produce fish. When you go back fish the banks around the area using your favorite plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, Chatterbaits, and flukes. Be on the lookout for pods of baitfish later this year. Have seen fish caught in all areas of this part of Chesdin. Just be aware that on weekends it fills up very fast with the tournament and pleasure fishing guys.

Good question and I have no idea. I do layer clothing when it is cold outside and so far it works great. Only hands and face get cold and I will be trying those blue surgical gloves this winter alon with my Bunn for my face. Also wear a cap at all times.

Darn Kyle, am I proud of you or what? Congrats on finishing up your first layer of college after high school and super congrats for considering the Military. Joining any branch of the military has life long benefits. So you have my 100% support to join any branch you wish. I was in the Army and visited such exotic places as Georgia, Oklahoma, Maryland and Viet Nam. Had some outstanding sergeants and enlisted guys in my company, which I was their commander in Viet Nam. We had some fun times and did some stupid things but I will never wish it did not happen. Great memories. The Marines are in a class by themselves. If you can make it through boot camp you will have a sensational career; meet so many great guys and gals; and become a member of the "Marines Alumni" when you get out. Joining the military opens the doors to many civilian jobs and careers; makes you eligible to be a member of the American Legion; and you can access USAA insurance. Only thing I want to tell you about is the young Marine that went AWOL in boot camp. He told his story during this court martial as follows: On day one, in the morning, they shaved my head and in the afternoon they gave me a comb. On day two, in the morning, they gave me a toothbrush and in the afternoon they pulled my teeth. On day three, in the morning, they gave me a jockstrap and I did not wait around for the afternoon. So be careful, join the military, and you will never have any regrets. Gung Ho!

Good question. Fishing a lake and then a tidal river so when the bite slows down I think I may give it a try. Not 100% sure when I will throw it but I plan to throw it. After all, making them is not easy. Will let you know what happens.

I saw the video when Ike introduced this rig to us a few months ago. So I went out and found some piano wire at a retired piano teacher's basement which was a disaster plus the fact I could not find the size Ike suggested. The piano wire was also too heavy and hard to bend. So I found the wire at Jann's Netcraft and made a few of these rigs. Threw them only once to see how they would perform so I had no bites or misses. I may fish two tournaments this month and give them a try. Will be interesting and so far, I am not sold on the rig until I throw it in combat!
