Looks like Gordon will come ashore at the mouth of the Pearl River, east of New Orleans. Uncle used to keep his 38-foot Chris Craft in a bayou up river from the mouth of the Pearl and we would go into the Gulf via the Pearl River. He and I drove to the boat one year while I was in high school to bring it up the river as a hurricane was approaching. We used the heavy anchor and sank it into the marsh allowing a lot of rope out, used one of the 12-foot skiffs to get back to the ramp, and left for New Orleans. When we went back after the storm the boat was in excellent condition. Hope Gordon goes more east as we don't need another hurricane hitting New Orleans or screwing up the LSU football schedule. Although the Fighting Tigers clobbered Miami last night, we still need the "W" from Southeastern Louisiana to help make a good bowl game. Everyone in Gordon's path start making evacuation plans, now. Let us know what you did and if you suffered any damages, etc.

No, of course not. But the probability of you catching anything is low due to the heat and warm water conditions. Find cooler water with lots of oxygen and you have found a great place to catch them.

The Pamunkey has some outstanding catfish. And lots of them. Go when you can and have some fun.

Go for it! There is a great place to the west of the Pony Pasture that has some beautiful catfish, all about 20 to 25 inches. You float from Flatrock by the Huguenot Bridge and catch your bluegills or bream and use them for bait. Of course, you need help getting the car/truck back to the Pony Pasture parking lot so you can get home!!!!

While waiting for my son's and daughter-in-law's going away party at my American Legion Post on the Historic Upper James River, I tried my luck for some catfish. Caught two little ones, about one and a half pounds each, but it was a lot of fun. Used the hot dog from my grandkids' hot dogs on a stick. Also used my Shimano Baitrunner for the first time in many years and it is still in great working order. May do some catfishing behind a friend's farm on the Appomattox River. Only problem is he says for me to be armed to shoot the snakes when I go.

The individual sounds like a bully with mental issues. If you work with him you will have to be careful around him. And yes, what he is doing is illegal and it should be stopped. If you wait a month or so he may not know it is you who reported him. If you report him now, I am sure he will confront you in a hostile manner which can lead to legal problems for you and him. To avoid legal problems, have another person report him via his social posts and "information from an unnamed source who knows what he is doing." In other words, have someone report him while keeping your name out of the equation, if at all possible, and tell the game wardens where they can find the proof. Good luck.

You can flip with a spinning rod. Suggested setup: 1. Medium heavy 7-foot spinning rod that can handle 8 pound test. 2. A Shimano 2000 or 2500 reel or any other spinning reel of your choice that will hold 8 pound test. The reels are the same size but the 2500 has a larger spool. Make sure the reel can handle 8 pound test line. 3. Tie line to spool and then turn it one turn. Then place electrical or duct tape over line on spool or take some mono of the 8 pound test variety and spool your spinning reel with the mono first, filling the reel about 15 to 20 turns. Tie your braid or fluorocarbon line to the backup line. Stops the line from spinning on the spinning reel. 4. Use 8 pound test fluorocarbon or braid line. 5. Spool line onto reel leaving about an eight or a little more from the top of the spool. If you get the line too close to the top of the spool you are asking for trouble. 6. Put reel on rod and run the line from the spinning reel through the line guides on your rod. Leave enough line, about three arm lengths pulled out, to tie your hooks. 7. Go with "weedless hooks" in the size of 1/0 and 2/0. 8. Tie "weedless hooks" or a 1/8 to 1/4 jig head to your line using a Palomar or other knot you are confident using. After tying the knot put a drop of quick drying glue over the knot. You can use a leader but it is not necessary. 9. Add your Zoom trick worm in either Junebug, Watermelon or Green Pumpkin or the colors of your choice rigged Texas style. You can also rig your plastics wacky or use a creature bait. Anything goes. 10. No weight is needed but if you do want to use a weight go with the lightest tungsten weight you can find, like a 1/16. 11. Tighten your drag and get your needle nose pliers ready. You now have your setup ready to rock and roll. 8 pound test is the highest suggested line test suggested but you can go higher if you wish. Some pros go down to 6 pound test but I find that it twists a lot. Some pros are using braid tied directly to the hook or jig head. Remember to throw your bail with your hand plus the fact that you will have some problems with line twist sooner or later. You may want to take a second spinning reel with you to switch out if your first reel gets messed up and tangled. Good luck and let us know how you do.

Right. Releasing minnows and other live bait into a pond will not injure the pond or cause the entire Massachusetts eco system to fail. I have been known to put live Louisiana crawfish in my double secret pond in the hope they would establish a colony and reproduce. Sorry to say they are all gone. Between the bass and catfish they were out of there in 48-hours. We don't put the live crawfish in any other waters, only the pond. I do not believe the baitfish you put in the pond will do any damage. In fact, I would bet they have already been eaten.

Alan, you have asked the $64,000 Question. Easy question - difficult answer. What the guys have penned, especially .Ghoti. tells you that there is really no answer to your query. What you can do is use larger baits and be aware that you will have fewer strikes. A friend fishes only 1/2 ounce jigs. He says all he needs is five bites a tournament and he used to win many tournaments throwing only 1/2 ounce jigs. As for where the big ones hang out, on the Chickahominy River outside of Williamsburg, Virginia, we all run up to the dam area for the big ladies. For some reason, the Florida strain bass hang out up river by the dam. We believe we have a better chance of catching one of the big ones by the dam than in any other part of the river. On the other hand, while fishing a pond, I caught a big one, over five pounds, on a small one-inch white grub while trying to catch bream. She hit it at my feet as I was just getting ready to lift the small bait to cast again. Go figure? So after reading the posts your challenge is to find the large bait (swimbaits, big jigs with big pigs, 12-inch worms, large deep diving crankbaits) that the bass want that day and hour and cast, cast, and cast some more. As penned above, just be prepared to cast a lot before you get a strike from one of the big ones. Keep trying. Good luck.

Jason, you asked three questions. Here is my input, right or wrong. Hope it gives you some insight into your situation. It did rain a lot this past week and dropped the water temp 3-4* But the weather has been fairly stable. After a cold front passes through an area the bass do not feed until a few days later when the barometric pressure increases. Then you have "blue bird skies" or in your case, "star-lit skies" and the bass will not eat. Do you guys think it was the change in water / air temp has em lock jaw? Yes. 100%. After a cold front moves through an area, as stated above, you may not get a bite for one or two days depending on the severity of the rain and/or storm. Or should I be doing something different? Sure. Always do something different. What have you got to lose? First, you put on a cheese head like they wear at the Packers and Badgers games. This will bring you good luck. Then, based on water clarity, select your arsenal of baits including those for your drop shot and shaky head techniques. Then hit them with a lot of vibration and noise baits to get them aggravated enough to hit them. And don't forget the color yellow. You know they can see the color yellow at night. Try some JJ's Magic or other dye for a yellow tail. Now go out there and do what the Packers do... slay them!!!!

It is a blast watching the kids do well, laugh; cry; get emotional; get some great hits; see some outstanding defensive plays; and have some fantastic sportsmanship. I did not realize that Hawaii had 17 innings of shut out ball. Outstanding performance. Well, looks like the LLWS ushers in football which starts next week in full swing, once again. Good tournament this year. Hope all saw at least part of one game.

Glaucus, I had the privilege of fishing with a bass pro two years ago and he told me that he forgoes the leader and uses braid straight to the hook for his flipping and pitching. He told me that he has not encountered any negative inpact on his bites and hook-up ratios. He also informed me that many pros are doing this now as they want as few "weak spots" in their setup as possible, and the leader to braid knot is one weak spot that can be eliminated. But it seems this little secret is being kept hidden from the public by the pros who use this set up. I am now using it and I have not had any problems with getting strikes or my hook-up ratio. Go figure.

Georgia keeps winning. Really is great seeing some good baseball and sportsmanship. The first base ump blew a call today that would have scored one more run for New York. Can't believe he missed that one. I could have called it correctly. Overall I have really enjoyed the games and seeing kids play the game for the love of it.

Glad you had it done and are planning to have the other three removed. Tooth pain is really bad for you guys who have never suffered through it. I had my wisdom teeth pulled many, many years ago. Kept them in small square plastic boxes but lost them during one of our moves from one house to another. And you are right about having healthy teeth. Your mouth is reflection of your overall health and if you let them go you will have major problems and unnecessary costs in the future. Feel better, soon.
