spawning temp?
Look for visible cover and work your preferred spawn lure slowly around it and make several cast to that cover.

Temp. Change
I am very interested in how this will change your lake.So the bass are later than before to spawn?Fish it and find the changes! You will learn alot!I believe that a bass's spawning has to do with water temps. You may have a great oppurtunity to explore some theories.

Spring time fishing and spawning
I have read alot of articles that lean toward water temps being the key factor for spawning.I have heard that the moon phase and water temps are what triggers them to spawn. This is an interesting thread. From personal experience I think water temp is a neccesity for the spawn.I have caught fish(females) for 3 weeks that were on the bed in the same general location of the same lake. The moon phase changes in 3 weeks. Another question is do you think age of the female might make a difference?

Instinct or Science Challenge must end, how?
I want ya'lls advice on how to end this.I could do one of 3 things. Keep it going till someone gets it right. Revise the information and start it all over. Put a deadline on it and the member with the most answers right wins.(If you pick this one how long of a deadline?) I'm gonna take votes until 7:00pm tonight(3/7) on how we end the Challenge. That is if somebody does't get it right first. Thanks! CJ

Instinct or Science 2 Prize Challenge!
Nobody has gotten all 5 questions right yet. There have been some come close.I wish I could revise some things that have been pointed out to me on some of the post like Matt-Fly's.But if I did that it would give people who haven't answered yet,an unfair advantage. There are alot of possibilities here and I'm not saying some if not most of the posted answers would have been a working or better pattern. So a percentage of getting all of the answers right will involve luck, but fishing involves luck, don't it? I see that we are going to have to have some closure here.I want to give the answers.I am going to take a vote on a new forum on how this should end, there has to be a winner.I hope this thread has been interesting to you guys.I hope we learn something from it.Thanks Guys!

Ledge holding fish - how to attack?
I second what RW said about paralelling the drop. This is the best way to find the sweat spots. I also second the suspending jerkbait, tube, and jig.

Can't catch any fish!
For starts I would get a topo.Look for creek channels, hump, points,or any of the sharper changes in elevation. This time of year I would mainly be concentrating on points(water temps pending). You will need to get used to that depth finder and don't pay any attention to the fish marks just look at the bottom contour and also pay attention to nearby banks for rocks(if any availible) do this only to get an idea what the bottom structure is like.A bouy marker is important when you first discover a ledge or point.Find your drop off and drop off your bouy. There is usually something on most points that will hold fish if the point or ledge isn't all that is holding them.I would seach during this season close to the main channel or deeper waters of the lake.If your lake is just mostly shallow and flat then cover is what you need to seek out. The lures you have been using sound fine to me.I would probally lean more toward a crankbait, suspending jerkbait, spinner,or jig this time of year.I would definatly tinker with the presentation though.A slow presentation will work most all the time. Hope this is some help.Oh yeah....Welcome to the forums. This is a good thread you started.

Instinct or Science 2 Prize Challenge!
Some of you guys may be burnt out on this topic.I have decided to have a little fun with it.Some of you have read this on the other post.I started it on a new one. I talked with my one of my tournament partners this morning about his day on the lake yesterday. He fished from 9:00am-4:00pm.He caught 4 keepers, the biggest being over 4 lbs. and the smallest being 2 1/2 lbs.It was a tight pattern. He caught only largemouth. The conditions: Water temp:48-52 degrees Water elevation:Winter pool Water clarity:clear at 4 ft. on the east side slightly stained on the westside(2 ft. visibility) Water release:27,000 cubic ft/second(that's not much) Wind:NE at 5-10 Air temp:34-52 degrees Mostly cloudy w/intervals of sun around noon Barometric pressure:around 30 and steady The Lake: 160,300 acres River chain resevoir The bottom is chunk rock, pea gravel, sand, some hard clay and mud. Here's the challenge.I have 5 question to ask about his pattern.Whoever answers all 5 correctly 1st wins a custom paint crankbait or hard jerk bait(painted however you want on whatever brand lure you want not to exceed $8) or I'll give them 5 custom light wire jigs(green pumkin, brown,or black and blue)or 5 packs of Gamakatsu,Howner,or X-point worm hooks(3/0 or 4/0). 1.What type of lure did he catch his fish on? 2.What type of presentation? 3.What was the water depth?(within 2 ft) 4.What was the location of the fish?(example:main lake point, shallows, rocky banks) 5.What cover or structure were the fish relating to? Then tell what you are basing your answer on:science, instinct,or both. Number each answer to match the question. Thanks to anybody who participates!

Instinct or Science?
Biology is a branch of science. As Chris said biology is the study of any living thing.Science goes beyond that. I like the way you think Chris.

B89,that's cool she decided for herself.I never pressure the boys to go.Sometime I have to sneak out on Gavin(when its real windy, etc.) Yep,started out with a Wiggle Wart, gonna wean her to a DD22.My wife was alright with it after I disinfected it and took the hooks off.Gotta remember to take the hooks off!

How to apply the top coat?
Amen to that. Whittler,Can it hurt the action to dip them.I haven't had a problem with it ,yet.I take a lighter and heat up the tail to help it drip,it also gets the bubbles out.Maybe I should consider brushing.I do waste alot of top coat.

Instinct or Science?
Yeah that's a good point.I'm not going back and looking at what I have said so I may contradict myself, but I know I have referred to scientifc studies and bass biology.Bass biology being facts of bass's make up of scenses, structural body, and habits. The science that i'm referring to is the studies of bass that are more in theory, such as the effects of ph,moon phase, etc. Maybe I am making sense. :-/

jus wanna let ya'll know

Fishing kids
One point to make, when you take a kid fishing make it fun.I like to act stupid, talk funny, anything to keep a smile on their face. That way if we don't catch anything we still had fun.In the summer give them time to swim if they want. And always, hand a kid the rod and ask them to hold it for you if they didn't see ya set the hook! Not trying to preach it,just thought I would add that.
