  1. Hey earthworm77 where did you get your info on your research I'm not trying to dispute you or anything I would just like to read it if i can Maybe it might make reconsider my opinon. and in the interest of not starting a new post If someone thought they caught a record fish what would be the steps you would take to insure it was stated as a record. What I mean does it have to be alive when brought to the scales who has to weigh it to make it offical, what do you do if your fishing private waters and there is no close scales nearby what would someone do in that situation Me I don't have a boat and fish private ponds and lakes. I highly doubt that I will ever catch a world record fish but I am aiming for the state record.
  2. You have to look at it this way back then catching a world record bass wasn't on everyones top priority list as it is with todays fisherman. If that fish would have been worth the money back then as it would be today I'm sure there would be more pictures than you can count and there will be I'm sure when the record is broken. Everyone here knows that when the next record bass is caught that person is going to be swamped with endorsment contracts and interveiws with magazine's and hard telling what else. It totaly amazing to me that the lure company that produced the lure was even in business, how they managed to stay in business during the depression is beyond me. IMO I think fishing back then was a way to catch food more than it was for sport or hobby, and if they had the booming economy that bass fishing has today it would have been different. We all know that there was not disposable or digital camera's then and the ease of just taking a picture wasn't there. In the bassmaster article it mentions in it that he sent a picture to the bait company It isn't all that surprising to me that that was probally the only picture taken and it was probally thrown away. In all honesty would would have known back then that his fish's weight would stand as a record for 73 years. I really think if the money factor had been there like today's we wouldn't be debating this issue
  3. I beleve it's true I kinda think it's interesting that There were two other larger fish caught that Field and stream had evidence of a bigger fish caught in the 1880's weighing 23 pds and one eighth pounds and one caught in 1926 claiming to weigh 24pds This info came from the oct issue of bassmaster mag page 37. I would have liked to been there when they made the decison to make perry's bass the record just for the reason I would like to know why they didn't consider the other two. one other thing it also says that says that the spot where he caught it has silted in and resembles little more than a swamp today I still would like to see it anyway or atleast a picture of what the area looks like. I know that sounds weird but It's just interesting to me I like history
  4. some people need to worry more about the music there kids listien to more than what ike is doing on his boat. Like jt said if he wasn't famous no one would say anything. Anybody who makes time for anglers and kids the way he does earns my respect. I have also heard some say he is not liked by fellow pro anglers well I don't like some of the people I work with either but have to work with them no one makes me so tough I have to deal with it and it ain't hurting me one bit Let the man fish and do his thing as long as he dosen't flash himself or moon the camera who cares
  5. Another way to look at it is next time you catch a bass and turn it loose hold it in the water for a few seconds and watch how fast it takes off most of the time they put the hammer down and what the other 2 posts said that might help you some
  6. When my best friend is catching fish on a spinnerbait that he peeled out of the bottom of his severly disfunctional takle box that he leaves in the sun when he ain't fishing on his ten dollar local bait shop clearance sell rod and reel while laughing at me for buying nice equipment and takle and having it orginized while I'm catching water and more of it tends to send my confidence to the bottom of the bucket. That and fishing in the cold
  7. Clarity is one I look at first as well.
  8. Thats some good info I will have to try that. thanks
  9. MY dad and mom introduced me to fishing we live on a farm and have a farm pond that we would fish alot I can remember catching 2 and 3 pounders on a rooster tail and thinking I was catching record fish. I use to think the rooster tail was the only bait to catch a bass with. My dad liked to catfish alot would do a little bass fishing here and there but do to accident when I was a baby that put Him in a wheel chair for over a year his legs hurt alot when standing so he preferred just casting out a line and sitting there waiting for a big ole cat to bite. Man this really brings back some memorys, my how the hands of the time just turn seems like yesterday So many memorys so little time to stop and reflect on them busy making new ones with my own daughter now. She is only two and casting her barbie pole really good ask's me all the time can I go fishing with you. That's the only thing that makes me not want to go is the fact that it's to cold for her to go with me. But when the warm weather rolls around you can bet I am going to fill up the ole memory bank with me and her fishing and my future children as well. My only regret is I wish I had enough money that I could afford to buy equipment for kids who have never had the enjoyment that we have I would love to be alble to give a bunch of kids fishing rods and reels and just take them fishing. I used to work at a boys prison for juvenile boys who commited felony crimes. It was truly sad to hear alot of them say they have never been fishing in there life I always used to wonder if maybe they had the oppertunites that I have had would they even be here now. well I had better stop now once I get rambeling about something I just keep going sorry for the long post it just got me thinking
  10. This may sound stupid but after they move up to shallow water how long does it take a bass start and end the whole spawning process
  11. Speaking of draining lakes. There are alot of small lakes on farms that have been sold for development being drained around where I live I just hate to see that such a waste I always wonder if maybe there might be a record fish in them. The sad part is they won't even let anyone fish them before they drain them I would atleast like to try to catch some and put in a live well and turn loose somewhere else or give them to someone who will atleast eat them I hate to see them just lay in the mud and die. How big is the lake in the picture's and are they going to work only on the dam or do some other things in the lake bed as well
  12. That's a good idea I think I will do this as well
  13. thats great I wasn't sure about the replica's if that was true or not now that i know you can get one I can still have a big fish on the wall and not the heartache of killing a fish. Thanks guys just to set it straight I haven't killed a bass on pupose I am strictly catch and release I don't want anyone to think I do that's why I asked about replica's thanks agin guys
  14. I'm sure there some here that have some mounted fish. I have been debating in my mind if I would actually get one mounted or not. I would like to mount a bass but hate the fact that it would kill it I know it sounds bleeding heart but everyfish I catch no matter the size is trophy to me I do take alot of pictures of the one's I do catch. I heard somewhere that you can get the measurement's of the fish and weight and provide a picture of it and you can have a replica made up is this true. Of course I wouldn't even consider mounting one unless it was 10 plus and even at that I know I'll probally still catch and relaese it I do think it would be neat to have one on the wall but I guess I just ain't got the heart to do it.
  15. I too have put alot of thought into this issue with jimmy h today while at work. We all make mistakes. I think I would feel better about this issue if jimmy aleast said, Hey guy's I screwed up can you forgive me. I would. I was pretty steamed about it yesterday. I do have to disagree with a couple of post's saying lets wait until the full story comes out and that we didn't actually see him shoot the deer. I'm not trying to be a smart elic here but he was in a treestand with a compound bow I don't think he was there just to watch it run around. If there wasn't a video showing him there and someone just saying he did it I would have to agree wait until we see evidence of it. But it is cut and dry in my book. I used to work at a prision for juvenile boys who were commited to the state for felony convictions and one of the biggest things I would preach to them was, We all make mistakes it's what you learn from them that count's. hopefully jimmy has learn something from this
  16. Bet you money he dosen't show up I say we start a petiton and send it to his sponsers 3000 plus members have to stand for something.
  17. Isn't it sad what some people do to make money. There other shows out there that do just the same Bill jordan's realtree outdoor comes to mind Killing deer on a ranch somerwhere when they come to a feeder how is that hunting that ain't the only show that does it I'm sure. I hunt but rarely watch a hunting show because thats all you see anymore is morons killing deer or something else while it was comeing to a feeder then thinking they accomplised something I can't stand it. What these idiots are doiing is building a case for peta by unethicaly killing game which in turn screws the average true hearted fair chase hunter's out there. When non hunters who never had a problem with people huntning before see stuff like this they assume all hunters do it, and put them all in the same category. It makes me sick to think most of these show do this crap to sell something. It saden's me to think that Jimmy H would do something this low. I don't care if it was his first time doing something like this and I am sure it isn't How can you call yourself a true sportsman knowing you killed a cage deer or drugged deer
  18. How great is that to have the pros of the sport we love come out and teach us how to be better. Look how freindly and accesable they are Bass anglers are truly lucky to have these guys
  19. LBH I highly doubt that I read alot of your posts you have alot more experiance than me I have been fishing all my life but have just gotten serious this last year I still have alot to learn getting better everytime I go out. Beside's I kinda *** you guys up north when it comes to cold weather fishing you guys are the pros
  20. Westside Swimbaits baby. get on my nerves I don't know what some of the guys are trying to prove out there there are some great fisherman in californa but there are great fisherman through out the whole united states as well. You don't hear Kvd saying northeast side I'm better because I from michigan What makes an angler better is there ability to diversify to different situations. To say that all florida texas and california bass fisherman are better because the climate alows them to fish more is totally wrong. IN my opinion what makes someone better is how willing are they to be better how much time to put into it and to learn it, and dedicate themselves to it What makes a fisherman better is being able to catch fish all over not just one state. I catch alot of fish here in ky but that don't make me better because I'm from ky
  21. congrats on the retirement and some advice for a first timer to bps, the baitmonkey is going to grab hold of you and not turn you lose. Take your wife my man to help control you if not you might have come out of retirement after all the money you spend there if you go by yourself
  22. IMO you can put speed limits on public waters and it ain't going to be much different Look at our roadways for everyday travel that have speed limits I would be willing to bet that 19 out of 20 cars are going over the speed limit. You have to take into consideration resources that go into enforcing the law. Most states have a hard enough time keeping up with motor vehichle laws let alone boating laws. Fish and wildlife resources would suffer alot look at the money they would have to take away from conservation project's just to be able to try. And we know that fish and wildlife funds are limited in most states. You would have to spend alot of money for more patrol boats, hire and pay more officers to patrol the waters even if it is the local police's responsabilty its alot of money. But on the other hand if they was able to really enforce the boating laws I'm sure there would be alot of income there too. IMO it boils down to something alot of people don't have anymore and that is common sense and respect for others. But unfortunatly people don't care about how there actions effect others so we will always have issue's such as this.
  23. IMO I think I would avoid putting a radio in my boat I don't have a nice enough boat to put one in yet but when I do get one I wouldn't put a radio in. I could be wrong but you might want to check to see if your boat can handle the extra voltage that and with the extra wires that you have to run could cause a problem latter down the road ie moisture corrosion. That and with all the extra vibration that comes form hauling and running the boat up the the water is bound to loosen something up. I would just buy a radio that operated off batterys I sure they sell some that are waterproof or you can get a dewalt that has a rechargeable battery just my opinion.
