  1. I use to use EWG, but had real bad hook up ratios. and before anyone re-teaches me I am sure to wait to feel the weight of the fish before I set. Switched to straight shank and have had a much better ratio. Just gatta be sure to keep heavy pressure on em once they get stuck. NGaHB
  2. I had never used any Rage products up untill the other night. No real reason I hadn't, just never got it in my head to buy any. I took a Rage Toad my buddy left in the truck a few months back and decided to throw it as I was getting tired of my Zoom Horny toads not running straight. I was immediately impressed with how they ran, and their staying upright with an unweighted 5/0 straight shank worm hook. Within ten min I had a fish on, within 10 min I had a fish on the bank with me. From about 30 min before sundown and the point I headed to the house I pulled in several fish and really enjoyed how quick the RT came up on plane as compared to several other similar toads Ive delt with. Only quit fishing because it got so tore up and I didnt have but that one. Looking forward to getting some other Rage Tail products! NGaHB
  3. The d**n fish weighed what it weighed, leave the guy alone. I could say I caught the swamp thing yesterday, dosen't hurt you any. NGaHB
  4. Take a 10 # weight from your weight set and hang it from your scales, if it reads ten then you could try a 15 as well to be sure. But if it reads right then your dad got him a 13# fish. Pictures can be decieving, as it does look around 8 pounds. NGaHB
  5. my mistake, I wasn't trying to come off negatively, Heck, I'm new myself! If I had to choose one, I'd go with a buzz bait, not that id catch many fish, but its the most fun way to catch bass IMO. NGaHB
  6. If you go to the Tackle section you will see many threads on this subject, already populated with alot of replies. NGaHB
  7. I fish a small cove on the north side of Lake Lanier here in Georgia. The cove is a hot spot for bream as well as other bait fish breeding. I have watched the lake go down 7' over the summer and have seen some interesting things. All of the small fish had already spawned before the level really started going down. As the water has gone down a large area that use to be ~6' deep is now dry. As the water receded the fry and guarding adults have been concentrated into a smaller and smaller area. I went from catching a only a few bass to regularly catching pretty big bags. I can also see various large bass, spots and LM, cruising around busting on bait fish. I have also developed an idea, probably has already been described, as to bass movement. I recently has a small bass break off my leader due to a bad knot on floro. About two weteks later I caught the same bass, under the same dock, even tho the dock was now almost sitting on dry land. I figgure some bass follow the normal movement patterns throughout the year. However, I think some bass are residents of a certain area, no matter the time of year. I would try out some small coves that have gone down over the last few months, using spinner baits and swim baits. I have also had good luck with buzz baits at night. Just my $0.02 NGaHB
  8. Very cool thread, glad it got dredged up NGaHB
  9. Only one I could find, in an aquarium, and on a much different scale that most claims. NGaHB
  10. I will cast at them, dosent hurt. And it sure sucks when you see the V turn into a 5+ pound bass swim all the way onto the bank busting shad and missed the opportunity to even try. NGaHB
  11. With out fishing pressure, commercial and recreational, pollution, damming of rivers, change in topography, etc..... I'm sure it was a lot easier for em -NGaHB
  12. I have kept one bass in my life, the one pictured, tho I dont feel that information is owed to you. Your bleeding heart view towards bass is rather ridiculous and I find your assumptions as to my keeping or releasing fish a classic move from folks with your personal views. As said before, if I catch a fish legally I can do what I please with it. Both of my parents are employed in conservation, one through the USDA Forest Service and another with the Georgia DNR. If you had a grasp on the science of fisheries management you would realize that many fisheries biologist feel your beloved C&R is detrimental to bass populations in many waters. Too many fish because people are too hell bent on releasing every bass they catch, leading to even large lakes having large populations of small under nourished fish. http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/pond_management.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/slot.html http://www.bassresource.com/fish_biology/harvest.html And those are just a few from here on BR. That is a point of view, one many will find ridiculous. The sense of connection felt through a long day of fishing/ hunting ending in eating what you took so much time to procure is one you are missing out on. You cry as to the morality of keeping a bass, yet feel no pain for the 3 or 4 tilapia that swam in polluted fish farms with ammonia levels rivaling that of the window cleaner you spray on your windows that later runs into the very streams you so covet... all to provide you frozen fish for $11. Much less at Wal Mart, supporting a bunch of foreign fish farmers while hundreds of thousands scrape by to survive in our very own gulf. Think what you will, my ability to look my self in the mirror is not affected by your opinions, much less a fish, bass or not. I do feel tho that you should look into the origins of this past time as well as look into the way your pompous attitudes make you appear, hiding behind a keyboard or not. -Greg Mavity
  13. I cant claim to have any idea on drop shot, but as far as shaky head goes I felt like I was feelin em fart on the bait as compared to mono. it really helped with feeling little nibbles, get ready to swing at bream alot, and I also found that since the line floats it helps me see when a fish picks it up and doesn't transmit any thump to me. NGaHB
  14. got ya. the whole line could be slipping still, tape or mono backer should fix the issue. I use 30 lb power pro on my spinning gear for bass. I use some real tiny stuff for trout and pan fish, but the 30 seems to work well for bass. I usually use either mono or a co polymer for a leader. NGaHB
  15. looks like a pretty cool lure, I have been seeing them for a while on BTW. I'm looking forward to seeing what you think of em. NGaHB
  16. Yall grow a buck that big in two years? I'm impressed NGaHB
  17. Those typing classes in grade school paid of for me eh? NGaHB
  18. on a spinning reel your having this problem? if so you need to look into putting a mono backer on that braid, as the whole spool full sounds like its spinning around. But to answer your question, braid is really nice for spinning gear, as it has next to no memory and has a low diameter per weight. NGaHB
  19. I have always liked a short rod myself. I stick with one at 6', but then also have one way up there around 8'. I grew up fishing trout mainly, and its nice to have some length sometimes to high stick into tight spots. no real casting involved, other than a real short flick sometimes, just almost cane pole'in it. NGaHB
  20. my guess is carp, was it a lake or pond? if it was carp you probably would hear and see them popping on top pretty regularly
  21. pinch the tail and close the mouth and youve got a 20" official measurement crappie NGaHB
  22. Good lookin fish for sure! Hell, I people always say the same ****, but as you said, you rarely see em carrying around a fish at all. -NGaHB
  23. that is incredibly cool! NGaHB
