  1. That'll bring a tear to any eye. Great post. NGaHB
  2. You can bass fish most everywhere. Any puddle of water here in GA will have a few bass. You can go to any state in the continental US and catch bass. You can also take that knowledge and catch bass all over the world, I love looking at the International forum and seeing what guys are doing over seas. I think soccer better watch out as the international sport. NGaHB
  3. They are a killer bait, if you can manage to get one that swims straight NGaHB
  4. Thats awesome, I still have a picture of the first bass I ever caught, its me and my dad, me still in diapers. That picture means the world to me. Im sure your son will remember those times for life. NGaHB
  5. I have been wanting to get some to try out, but havent gotten an order together here lately. Bluebasser86 uses them I believe, and he seems to do real well on them, hopefully he will give some insight here soon. NGaHB
  6. I've now got 4 lakes Im throwing swimbaits in with high levels of success. This one came from the newest addition, tho its a lake Ive fished all my life. I put some time in with real prey swimbaits and morgan custom lures. I also use some of my own making. Now that its warmer the hard bait bite should be turning on. Alot of times I will throw a hard bait, expecially a wake bait, and find the fish via followers, then come back later that day or the next and catch the followers with a Hudd. NGaHB
  7. That sounds like a blast! Great job NGaHB
  8. I always go bread crumbs, canned salmon, onion eggs salt and pepper. Dip in butter milk and bread in 10/1 flower cornmeal with some cajun seasoning. not fancy, but it aint half bad. I always make drop biscuits and a gravey from some of the left over oil NGaHB
  9. LOL, Youve got the right idea man! We had a mouse running around the apt for a while, thats what happens when you neighbors dont like to clean. He would chew up paper and stick it in her shoes. She yelled and screamed that I needed to get a rat trap, he only put in her shoes, so let him be and left it up to her... rodents in the house can be halarious NGaHB
  10. Ive read his book, called the mad fisherman I think. It gave me a diffrent insight into the guy. I figgure hes a decent fisherman, but his show is smart, I find it annoying, but I would guess he makes the most money fishing without being a pro. He figgured out how to market himself. That being said I don't like his show one bit. NGaHB
  11. I'm headed down to Cape San Blas with some buddies week after next. I have fished off of the jetties down in FL some and casted out sand fleas a time or two, but I was wondering what tips yall would be willing to share for this place. Im fine with live bait or artificials Thanks NGaHB
  12. 300 miles, Im going to be there this time! NGaHB
  13. They work! NGaHB
  14. Yea Shimmy, its been cool to put some confidence to work elsewhere. The other big bass this year wernt coming from confidence, but now ive got it all feelin good. Zip Pow- I've got a box of big baits that are callin to be thrown, but I keep coming back to the hudd. I really like the 6" weedless for fish even down to 1 or 2#! I fish the weedless baits like a jig, let them sink and bounce a few times then swim it back. A 6" hudd can be thrown on a flippin stick really comfortably. The 8" really needs a swimbait rod, tho I have seen them lobbed on a flippin stick. I swim them slow, real slow, and just target the big ones. You'll have some really long dry spells, but I think its worth it in the end. NGaHB
  15. Heres my big headed idiot. Half mastiff half boxer, names brutus NGaHB
  16. I went home to spend some time with my parents this week and luck would have it there is a mountain lake about seven miles from my parents house. I had done some fishing there in the past, and saw several big fish before, but my biggest was a 6 or 7 I caught a few years back. Its a tough place to fish from shore due to there being tons of wood, most of it sunk in very deep water. I threw the rat some and got a group of followers with three over 10#. Not bites that day, but I went back yesterday and threw a Hudd now that i knew where they were. About 30 min into fishing I saw a big momma holding to a tree. I did a real awkward flip cast over close to her and about half way into the retrieve I got a big bite. Got her in did my weighing and picture taking and let her free. I was amazed to then see that the big fish i assumed I had just caught... was still there! This place has a BIG population of BIG bass. She went 11.2 on my new digital scale. NGaHB
  17. You'll look alittle weird, but crocks are hard to beat. Seem to be a popular choice with bass pros. It took me a while to switch, but the sperrys stay home these days. NGaHB
  18. Fishing with a treble on top that rod set up aught to work fine. Fish where the big fish are. Have they spawnned io there yet if not pre spawn fish will be posted up around ledges and such close to spawning groounds. Go sloooow like one turn per second or two. Your fishing for that one bite; the 6" would offer more bites but there there. Pm me if you have any specific questions. The bites with big baits are few and far between, but when they come there worth it! NGaHB
  19. It's real hard finding any XL sized rat baits for sale other than those north of $200, so I got to work making my own. Yes, this is obviously based on the only 6"+ rat bait that I know of, and no I didnt make this to sell, but for personal use only... *looks around for cease and desist order* It took about 3 hours or so other than a little testing and then waiting for everything to dry. Just thought Id share and I hope other folks will give it a go. Also managed to solo shoot a video of it in action. Had a three and a 4 pull off of the laid down tree to follow it. The even came up and made a swipe at it. [media=] NGaHB
  20. You guys have some serious walnuts. Every second of it I would be envisioning the 20# snapper waiting to take my fingers off like vienna sausages. NGaHB
  21. With all these species coming together I would look into a Matt lures blue gill, you could have some bass go after them thinking its a bream raiding their bed, as well as go for some of the bass that are targeting the bedding bream. NGaHB
  22. Thats awesome, Yo guys are killin it over there. Neat to know that there are some big fish coming out of somewhere off the radar. Are there any trout like fish in these waters, as a swimbait guy I would be looking to throw some big baits at em NGaHB
  23. the Avids Ive messed with leaned towards the heavier end of the spectrum. My M XF is more like most peoples MH. If your looking for a good worm rod then the MH St Croix will be great. For a topwater rod, expecially with trebles, I would go with the M. Now if your using mono for the top water that will help alot and give some forgiveness. If you can swing the cost I would go with something like an avid for worms and jigs and then get something with a softer action for topwaters and cranks NGaHB
  24. Im a firm believer in the calories per bite theory. Now there are athletic looking 10 ponders that will do an acrobatic show when you get hooks in them, but most big fish are the equivalent of a 300 # McDonalds addict. They weight the amount of effort it takes to get the meal in deciding if they are going to go after it. If a rattle trap goes by at high speed, its not going to be worth chasing down due to the fact it would be a small meal, as opposed to a 10" triple trout which would be a stomach full. Now if a 8" hudd goes by as slow as can be, well then thats an easy stomach full. If a jig goes by slow, its also worth the energy to suck it in. On baits with hanging trebles youll catch alot of fish off of reaction strikes, from big to small. But back to the original question... not always *see avatar pic NGaHB EDIT: I've also had days where a weedless 6" hudd was tearing up 1 pounders, on one of these days jigs fished exactly the same were catching fish, but the hudd had em beat 2:1
  25. If your not wetting the line I expect that is the issue. I use CXX, granted its way higher test, with the Palomar 99% of the time and havent had any problems. NGaHB
