  1. So basically youre saying to spool it up, then unspool it, then spool it again? How will that help it go on evenly? Why dont i just ue the line and lure conditioner when i iniitally spool it?
  2. I only fish from shore since i do not own a boat. My question is does anyone have and tips or techniques for getting snagged lures back? I know they make lure retrievers but i dont know if they work from shore. Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated. Maybe you can save me some cash!
  3. Whenever i spool my baitcasters the line tends to fill up more on one side than the other. I usually thread the line through the first guide, through the reels eye and tie onto the spool and wind it up. Am i doing something wrong? By the time im done theres always more line on the left side of the spool than the right. I keep tension on the line when spooling as well. Im not sure why this happens.
  4. Unfortunately i dont own a boat so i fish from shore 99 percent of the time. My question is since i dont own any fancy fish finding electronics how can i know im on fish? Should i be looking for the normal stuff? Structure, points, etc etc?
  5. http://www.trails.com/topo.aspx?lat=40.2018&lon=-74.9146&s=50&size=s&style=drgsr&name=Lake%20Luxembourg This is my lake. I fish mostly the southern part of it. Im going to check out the northern part above the overpass. I found out boats and kayaks arent allowed back there and its a little tougher to get back there on foot so maybe that area will have less fishing pressure. Looks like some nice feeder creeks up in the northern part too. Ill report back with my findings!
  6. So my home lake isnt that big. About 100 acres. Lately i keep getting skunked over and over. I know for a fact there were a few nice LM that hung out in one of my fave spots and i used to catch em all the time. Now theyre gone. Im at my spot yesterday and this russian dude shows up, throws 2 lines in the water and just sits there keeping EVERYTHING he caught. Sunnies, bass, carp. Within 5 minutes he makes a call and another russian dude shows up and throws another 2 lines in the water and he also keeps EVERYTHING. What dont these people get about catch and release? I don't understand are you gonna do with sunnies and bass. Eat em? Out of that lake? No thanks. These guys are a disease and they are fishing out our lake and im sick of it. They just sit there with bait on the bottom doing nothing but sitting there waiting. Thats not fishing, thats waiting!
  7. Well i fish from the bank 100% of the time. Aside from the occasional renting of a boat. Ive thrown everything. Yes ive tried texas rigging worms and creatures. And ive tried working them as slow as slow can go. lol. Today was my first attempt at using a topwater frog. Got to this new spot at a new lake. From the bank maybe about 30 yards out were tons of lily pads. I threw that frog at the edge and into the pads and nothing. Threw spinnerbaits, cranks, in line spinners, texas and wacky rigged worms, a buzzbait, all in various colors and nada. I knew there was fish there i could see lots of action on the surface and i figure the edge of a lily pad bed is as good a place as ever to try and fish. Even at my home lake i move around and walk the banks, treck through the woods to secluded spots, i move around. Im def not the guy in one spot all day. And still i cant catch and ********** fish lately.
  8. My home lake and the lakes around me get a nice amount of pressure. Im tired of getting skunked. Any suggestions for lures to use on these pressured lakes? Ive thrown everything, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, crankbaits, lipless cranks, Senkos, in line spinners, jerkbaits, i mean ive tried everything. So whats everyones go to when the fish become weary of lures? Brands? Colors?
  9. Where should i go to get a lake map of my local lake. I looked all over on the web but couldnt find anything. Its Lake Luxembourg in Core Creek Park PA. Its not a huge lake but i figure i should be able to find a map somewhere but not on thre web. Is there somewhere i can go and get a copy?
  10. Yea i always hear that a fish wont go after a meal if the energy it uses is more than the energy itll get from the meal. So why would a fish spend all that energy to swim up and jump out just to eat an insect? I usually try and throw past the ripples or to the sides. I figure if theres fish breaking the surface hes probably not alone. Sometimes there will be tons of baitfish breaking the surface, i would think that theres gotta be bigger fish around. But there never is. Its really frustrating. Its a medium pressured lake.
  11. I actually just read an interesting article on noise while fishing. Basically you dont want sounds traveling through the medium fish live in, water. Talking and music are ok because the sounds they produce travel through the air. Things like stomping on the bottom of the boat which will make the sound travel through the water. Sound can even transfer from the ground on the bank you may be fishing into the water and spook fish. Heavy steps on the bank or boat, engine noise, stuff like that spook em. Talking and music is just fine. Although talking may break your focus. I fish with my grandfather a lot and i always catch less fish with him than i do by myself. probably cause im not as focused.
  12. So at my home lake i steady see fish jumping. But i cant ever catch them. Ill see ripples in the water or even sometimes see the whole fish jump out. Ill cast right to the spot but nothing. I assume theyre feeding on something on the top. Even using topwater lures i cant get em. Are they even bass? I know the lake has carp, brown trout, catfish, largemouth bass. No smallies though. Also sometimes i see bubbles coming to the surface. Is it fish producing those bubbles i see?
  13. Yea im not big on putting a worm on and just sitting there catching tiny bluegills. Boring. I have a nice selection of Senko, YUM, and Zoom plastics. I usually Texas rig them or Wacky. Also love using spinnerbaits and lipless crankbaits and jigs. I usually will just hop in the water at the lake up to my knees without waders. I have no qualms about getting wet. I do agree about the waders though. I like fishing the Deleware for smallies and the waders would definitely help.
  14. I do not own a boat and fish from shore. I fish mostly a small lake near me. Any tips about fishing from the shore?
  15. Is this a spotted bass or largemouth? Whats the difference between the two?
  16. Thanks for the input guys. I usually tie a polomar for everything. Its done me well. Never had a break off yet. Im starting to learn more knots though. Yea i feel like when you lubricate braided line it makes it weird. Like it stretches it or something. I noticed when i was fishing for fluke and flounder last week. I have 30# black braid on my saltwater reel.
  17. Anyone from the Philly area? Whats you're favorite spots to catch bucketmouths?
  18. I have a Quantum baitcast reel on a 6'6 medium action Quantum rod. Its my first baitcast reel and ive gotten pretty good using it. Im currently using Trilene XL 12 pound test line. I want to try braid but im not sure whats the best kind to start out with. I have a saltwater surf rod with 30lb test braid on it but its spinning gear. Also, should i lubricate when i tie my knots with braided line? Any answers would be gratly appreciated!
