  1. Theres 3-4 strip pits around my way that me and my buddy fish constantly. Great population of 2-4 pound bass. Huge gills and Crappie too. We do best on Yum, 5 inch dingers in watermelon or and natural color. Being as the water is super clear natural colors work best. Also do well on jigs, black an blue, green and red, brown. Again, natural colors work best. When fishing ultra clear water the little things matter. Making sure your tag end is cut off, proper bait positioning on the hook, stuff like that makes a difference. Also, big 10-12 inch ribbontail worms are dynamite!
  2. I had a funny first today. Me and my buddy were fishing right next to each other and we got tangled up a bit. I was untangling the line and my worm had fallen off and my bare hook was just sitting in the water. Out of no where and bass came over and crushed it. Bare hook, no worm on it. lol. We got a good laugh from that stupid fish. Told him to smarten up and let em go.
  3. Yea I mean I thought Id see males and females on beds, fry all over the place after they hatched, males on the bed guarding those fry. But like i said in March and April I did see males and females on beds then they just disappeared. Is it possible that after catching them they decided to spawn elsewhere on the lake? lol. Ive been all over the lake, its not big at all. Had the boat on it last week. I still see a few smaller bass shallow but most other fish moved deeper. Its just confusing. Its almost like the spawn just shut off.
  4. I live in Philadelphia, PA. Some people Ive talked to say the spawn is over. Yet at all of my spots I have not once seen and fry swimming around, I havent even caught fish with bloody tails. Take for example the quarry i fish. March and April there was lots of bass up shallow sitting on beds. Then May came, we had a few fronts come through and they all disappeared back out deep. Not once this season have i caught a fish out of there with a beat up tail, also havent seen any bass fry what so ever. Wouldnt I see fry after theyve hatched?Shouldnt I have been catching bass with beat up tails? Even in the river spots I have, same deal. Im confused?
  5. Jigs in natural colors and black and blue, spinnerbaits, shallow and deep diving cranks, rat l traps, ribbon tail worms, creatures. One of my personal favorites and its in my panic box is a half ounce Rooster Tail in line spinner, or whatever brand you prefer. Everything that swims and has a mouth will bite big in lines.
  6. Caught a nice 4lb catfish today on a 1/2 ounce Rooster. Black with a nickel blade. Lure just hit the water and he snagged it.
  7. Anyone ever use Joe's Flies spinners? Theyre awesome as well.
  8. I like all in line spinners. Rooster Tail just happen to be my favorite.
  9. I use the tiny ones for Crappies and such but recently bought some big ones. Half ounce and up and man I love em. Anything that swims and has a mouth will eat them. Ive caught LMB, SMB, Walleye, Pickerel, Musky, and even some Carp on them. The big ones really put out a lot of thump and vibration and flash. Theyre part of my emergency kit, the stuff I use when fishing is slow. So, anyone love Rooster Tails?
  10. My Wal Mart is selling Conqueror baits and tackle for 2 dollars a pack. I stocked up on Plastic worms and lizards, cranks, hooks, jigs, all for 2 bucks a piece. The big fish in my quarry lake LOVE the ribbontail worms. Cheap stuff but it works for me.
  11. Has anybody used the Sebile D&S Crankbaits? The ones with the single wide gap hook in the back? I like this idea and them seem pretty awesome but im not totally convinced. Im sure ill get hung up a lot less but what about hook up ratios? If you have used these please leave a review. How was the hook set, did you lose a lot of fish compared to a 2 treble crank? Any info would be appreciated.
  12. I have an old abandoned quarry near me that i fish a lot. Theres actually 2 lakes separated by a road. The water is clear, visibility is about 6-8 feet. Tons of trees fallen on the banks, lots of concrete blocks in the water, some vegatation. Theres a healthy population of 3-4 pound bass and the lake gets fished by a handful of people. We keep it secret. Aside from bass theres monster carp, pickerel, huge crappie and bluegill, catfish. Any tips or techniques for fishing clear deep quarry lakes. I fish from shore and have been doing great with 2-4 pound fish but i know there is bigger. The banks are shallow out until about 15-20 feet out then it drops off sharply into deep water. Water temps right now are around 65-67 degrees so im guessing theyre getting ready to spawn but i havent caught a fish with a bloody tail yet. Seems like theyre just coming up from deep water into the spawning areas.
  13. I havent seen someone using a spincast reel since i was like 5. lol I liked the vid though.
  14. I bank fish too and in my experience if you can see them they can DEFINITELY see you. Usually if she is on a bed and you spook her off she will come back eventually. If i spook one ill leave for 15-20 mins and then come back to the spot crouching low and silently.
  15. Thanks gents. I have Abu Garcia reel oil and Quantum Hot Sauce for inside the reels but all around the spool and the rod is caked with dirt. Im def gonna need fresh line, i was low anyways. Thanks for the tips!
  16. I was fishing in some slop today and my rod, reel and line are covered in drie dirt that was floating on top of the water. Whats the best thing to use to clean that dirt off my rods and inside the reels? Can i use just water and a rag?
  17. So I live in Philly, (go Flyers) and two weeks ago the weather got warm and the bite was on. We slayed them on everything. Then a cold front came through, and a week and a half of cold and rain and we can't buy a bite. They just shut down. They chase lures but don't eat em. Anyways tomorrow a warm front is coming and there's going to be a few days of 80 degree weather. I've read tons about cold fronts and their effect on bass but what about warm fronts? I've heard they bring lower pressure. Is this true? Is it a good thing? Let's hear some ideas, tips and techniques if any for warm fronts and their effect on the fish.
  18. Ha! Exactly. Maybe some bass are just nice fish looking to help out. lol
  19. Feel your pain man. Going through it right now. They were on fire thn some fronts came through and while theyre still on their beds, they wont bite anything. Ive spent hours chasing one fish. Theyre not dumb creatures by far.lol
  20. YEa, 24.5 inch fish healthy is around 5 pounds. Im terrible with guessing weight which is why i bought a scale.
  21. I once caught a sunny with an in line spinner. The fish had a small treble hook buried in its back and somehow my hook caught the treble hooks eye and i reeled em in like that. What are the odds? lol
  22. I got into fishing last year. Started out just throwing bloodworms in the Deleware catching tiny stripers. Found this site shortly after and ive been hooked on bassin since. I love doing it and learning about it just as much as i do with the guitar. This site has been invaluable in teaching me everything i need to know about bass fishing. If you arent visiting bassresource.com everyday, youre missing out on tons of good info to make you a better angle. BR FOR LIFE! Does this site have any stickers, hats, shirts etc for sale?
  23. Thats awesome. I equate it to basically a reaction strike same as pulling a crank through weeds or knocking it off a stump. Seems theyre drawn to the popping action when the bait frees. But mine didnt free up, the worms tail must have been wiggling in her face while i was pulling trying to free it. Good stuff.
  24. Thanks man, yea right as the front was coming in they were feeding like crazy. Now theyre just sitting deep. Its good though cause at this lake theres tons of shoreline structure with deep water right next to it so its still possible to get em from the bank after the front comes through and they move deeper/
  25. Yea i love those reaction strikes when you rip a crank free of grass or bump it off a log but this was completely snagged. Pulled it every way possible and it wouldnt come off, as soon as im about to snap the line she nailed it. It was so awesome. Love bassin!
