Im sure this has happened to plenty of guys out there but today it was a first for me. Pitched my Senko up under some over hanging trees to a log floating up on the bank. Got snagged up on the retrieve and could not for the life of me get it of. Im about to give up and pull my rod straight back and snap the line when all of a sudden, THUMP THUMP. She ate it off the snag! I think hen it got caught because I was shaking it it must have been wiggling in her face and she just got ticked! She ate it up and freed me up off my snag! It was quite fun going from "d**n im snagged, def gonna lose that hook, weight and worm" to "holy crap a fish hit it" Anyways she wasnt anything huge, pound and a half maybe, but it sure was fun. Any good snag to fish stories? Or catching a fish when you least expect it stories?

Our favorite spot was jumping the past two weeks. We were catching tons of fish 2-4 pounds all last week. Slaying them on all types of lures. Cold front moved through this week and we cant buy a bite now. Its so tough and frustrating. I did manage to catch a nice 2 pounder today on a texas rigged stick worm. Its driving me nuts though cause theres still a few fish shallow that didnt move deep after the front but they got lock jaw. Any post cold front tips and techniques?

Thanks. Our eyes are alwasy bigger than the truth. lol. Which is why i bought a scale. Then forgot it today like a ******. Sucks cause i caught a bunch of fish this size and a little fatter, wish i could have weighed them.

Like i said im terrible with guessing weight. She just felt heavy in my hand.

This was one of the big girls i couldnt catch the other day. Caught em all today. 6 fish all around this size or a little bigger. Any guesses as tot eh weight? I forgot my scale today. She was 18 inches long. Others were between 15 and 18 inches. Big fish all day. I guessed her around 5lbs or just under. Maybe over, i dunno. Im terrible with guessing weight.lol

Easy way to tell, a largemouths jawline will go past its eye, smallmouths end just under the eye. Also smallies tend to be brown or bronze and largies tend to be green and gray with a black line down the side.

Yea i was trying to do that but the way the bank is its lined with brush and trees so ya gotta get through that to make a cast. This was just one spot on the lake so im going to try some different spots. Rumor has it a 10lb monster lives in that lake, and im gonna get her!

They were just sitting in some branches and logs that were in the water on the bank. they were in about 8 inches of water, just sitting there. They knew i was there but didnt move. Every now and again the male would poke at the female and they would swim off a few feet then come right back to the same spot and sit there. No real reaction to me or my lures. I had plastic worms literally hitting them and landing on their heads and they didnt flinch.

I thought that same thing to myself. Thats a great way to describe how they were acting. It looked like they just got nasty and are recouping. lol

So Im at the quarry lake today. Water temp is around 68 and the water is super clear. I was crushing bass all day in the 2-3 pound range on all sorts of baits. All along the bank theres tons of cover. Lots of brush and laydowns, fallen trees and the sort. Its kind of tough because you have to get through brush to get to the bank and its impossible to be stealthy. Everywhere i went i kept noticing big females, like 6-8 pounds with a small male with them. They were everywhere. They did not bite ANYTHING! I was putting lures right in front of their face and hey just stared at it. They werent really spooked, i could see them staring at me and they didnt run off. I guess theyre getting ready to spawn. Any tips for catching these impossible to catch fish? I was putting texas and wacky rigged worms in all colors in their face, jigs of all shapes and sizes and colors, jerkbaits, crankbaits, in line spinners, spinnerbaits, ever little crappie jigs. Nothing.

I was fishing docks at my local marina today, catching bass and some real nice Crappie. But i noticed all around me i kept seeing bubbles coming up from the bottom and could see some shadows of what appeared to be some big fish. Any idea what they were?

Thanks for the info guys. I just dont get it. These pond Ive been checking out look bassalicious, basstastic, THEY LOOK LIKE A BASS HAVEN! But nothing, just a few moster carp. I fished the crap out of the with everything. Plastics, spinnerbaits, in line spinners, cranks, lipless cranks, wacky worm, texas rig, carolina rig, shaky heads, everything in my tackle bag. Its frustrating and mysterious. Could it be because i live in Pennsylvania?

Ive been exploring lots of ponds around my way. Some of them really nice and extremely bassy looking. Huge trees laying on the bank that go out like 50 feet into the water, tons of structure. But in all these ponds I have yet to see or catch a bass but i constantly see HUGE Carp. Not sure which kind but theyre giangantic. Do these Carp have an effect on the bass population? It insane how much of a bass haven some of these ponds are but i cant find bass. Help! Tips on fishing pond would be appreciated as well!

Agreed Blue. I figure as long as there is food and cover fish will be around. I saw tons of baitfish and bluegills. And them Carp were huge. Couldnt catch em though with my bass tackle. I think theres gotta be some bass in there. If there is all that cover and baitfish there must be bass. I threw everything in that pond though and nuttin.

Went earlier and didnt see or catch any bass but i did see tons of baitfish and bluegill and a few MONSTER Carp. They were just hanging out in like 5 inches of water. I dont have any Carp bait though, they wouldnt bite any of my bass lures.

Im kind of like Ike. If its a keeper, its a pig.lol. I use lots of adjectives like, pig, hog, monster, bruiser. Theres nothing better than setting that hook and your heart starts racing. Love it!

I only fish from the bank since i do not own a boat. Well just got a jonboat but it needs work before its ready. Anyways there's tons of great info on this site for bank fishing. Ive learned so much from here. I like to GoogleMaps the spot Im going to fish and look for access points that most people wouldnt use. Try and get to areas that boats cant go. When you get to the spot, BE QUIET! Sneak in and stay a few feet from the bank. You would be surprised how easily fish will spook. Wear colors that blend in with the woods, no bright colors. I usually like to start with something flashy or loud to get their attention and depending what they do ill change to a jig or Senko. Let them tell you what they want. And honestly, i know its kind of frowned upon but chum the water up. Yea i said chum. lol. Sometimes even spraying a few squirts of the scent you may be using can draw them in and they key in on that scent so if your lure has it on it, well you get it. You have the advantage sometimes over boater because you can go where they cant. One of my super secret spots involves scaling down a 50 foot hill thats extremely steep. We tied a rope to the tree at the top and kind of rappel down. lol. Coves, creek arms and channels, docks, look for any trees that may be in the water on the bank. Anything for fish to hide under. Also look for trash, yes trash. Theres a great article on this site about it. Look for trash and such thats piled up in coves and fish it. I have a spot that has old palets and barrels pushed up against the bank in the cove and theres always fish there. Explore, youll be surprised what you fish. HAWGS!

For me when my confidence gets really low I go somewhere I know Im definitely going to catch something, or anything. Doesnt have to be a largemouth just as long as I catch something it totally turns my confidence up.

On my way back from one of my secret spots today i noticed along the road there a small creek that empties into a tiny pond in the woods. The pond is maybe 30ft by 40ft big. Not sure the depth, but man does this place look bassy. Tons of plants, lily pads, reeds on the bank. My question is, as long as there is food, cant a bass live anywhere? I know its a tiny pond but like i said it looks like a bass haven. I was under the assupmtion like i said that as long as there is forage for the bass, itll survive. Doesnt have to be a big body of water. Also, whats the smallest amount of water youve caught a bass in? I dont mean how shallow, i mean how small was the body of water?
