  1. I have a few half and one ounce Rooster Tails that I adore. They flat out catch lots of bass for me. The other day I lost a nice one, must have been 4 pounds and when I looked at the hooks I realized they were dulling. Being as I am unemployed at the moment I was wondering how I can sharpen these treble hooks up some so I dont have to spend the little money I have buying new treble hooks. So, how do you guys sharpen hooks up? Would a metal file work?
  2. Excellent read my friend. Thanks for the link.
  3. I am by no means a biologist, let me just say that. and id love to hear ones opinion but i do not think fish are dumb by any means. Fish have been recorded going back to their original spots after tournaments, fish shun certain baits theyve seen a million times. I dont believe fish have as short a memory as some say, 15 minutes or so. I think thats bull. Ever had a day where they crush a certain bait then the next they shun it when they see it. I think they know. Theyre saying "you gotta be nuts if you think im biting that after what happened yesterday with it." Small fish I think are kind of dumb but the bigger fish, 3-4lbs and up didnt get that way by being dumb and forgetful.
  4. Either way is true, Ive had days where I caught one fish and all of a sudden it was a whack em fest. I guess the fish see their buddy feeding and it turns the school on. But vice versa happens as well. If youre fishing from shore try to cast along the shoreline because you can definitely spook shallower fish by bringing in a deeper fish thrashing around.
  5. I fish from shore, I only really worry about the color of my clothing during the spawn when the fish can see you. I wear dark colors, brown, green, black all year around just out of habit I guess. But I would only really worry about it like i said during spawn when fish are right on the bank and so are you.
  6. X2 on the Yum Dinger. Screw Senkos. Too expensive and they dont last. In my opinion Yum Dingers have the exact same action, last longer, and catch just as many fish. Plus they have a spiffy little indentation to texpose your hook. And you get more in a bag. The only stick worm ill use is a Dinger.
  7. I live in Philadelphia and Im looking for places i can catch big bass. I dont mean 10 pounders or anything. Just some 5,6,7, pounders. For me a 3 pound fish is big and id like to change that. I live right along the Delaware River but i dont own a boat so Im bank fishing. Anyone from this area know of any spots with quality bass?
  8. X2 Fish areas with more cover, laydowns, stumps, logs, grasslines, over top of the grass, creek channels, shady areas, all should hold a few bass.
  9. The same lures that catch the brown fish will work on the green ones. lol. In my experience smallies are a little more aggresive than largies. Slow your presentation down a lot.
  10. Yea, sorry to say but unless you are a "pro" its probably not going to happen unfortunately.
  11. Experience will help. Concentrate when watching that line, youll notice the subtle thumps. Like deep said though sometimes a fish will eat your bait and just sit there. Its tough to detect but focus and concentration will help. I know it sounds sill but i try and be the lure. I always keep contact and i try to imagine what that lure is doing every moment. Something out of the ordinary happens? Set the hook!
  12. Just be a line watcher. I cast my worm out, when it hits the water i let some more line out so it falls straight down, your line will be slack but just watch it where it enter the water. Any twitch or jump of the line, SET THE HOOK! Also whe you cast it out count how long it takes to hit bottom. That way next cast, say if it takes 10 seconds to hit bottom and yours stops falling 5 seconds in, set the hook. Thats how i do it on windy days when watching the line just doesnt work as well, counting down works well on windy days for me. Also, there is no such thing as a "newbie" question. Thats whats great about our sport, there is always something new to learn everyday.
  13. If i had 10 g's to blow id enter the World Series of Poker. lol
  14. Throw a Carolina Rig to figure out bottom composition. Id go with a half ounce and work up from there. C-Rigs are great for feeling the bottom and any humps that may be there.
  15. X2 on throwing something different. If its a pressured lake those fish have seen a texas rig, cranks, jigs, spinnerbait a bazillion times. Throw something different. MAybe a wacky rig, chatterbait, or even just a different worm, maybe a big ole ribbontail. Be creative and different and youll get more bites.
  16. Speaking of craw imitators, caught this 3.8 pounder, 20 inches today on a brown jig with a wooly bug trailer. Skinny fish but she took me for a ride into a tree. Patience paid off as she finally came out of it.
  17. Well, i guess in the south that is the beginning of the spawn.
  18. I know this may be a noob question but why do they do it in February? This years Classic the guys are launching in 30 degree weather, 10AM its only 40 degrees. Wouldnt it make more sense to hold it later? March or April when most of the country is in spawn or close to it. Why hold it in the coldest month of the year?
  19. 1) Commas and periods are your friends. 2) Save yourself money and get some Yum Dingers. I think theyre way better, cheaper and you get more in a package.
  20. You sir, are the man! Ive been Googling all over and couldnt find any. Thanks! Stocking up on them now!
  21. I find myself using split shot weights a lot because im always experimenting with fall rates and such. I like being able to put the weight on or take it off when I want. But split shots tend to snag more because of the little tabs on them. I sometimes use the ones without the tabs but theyre a pain to get off too. I really like bullet weights cause they snag much less but I hate the fact that one you put it on, its on. The only way to get it off is to re tie. So does anyone know of any removable bullet weight makers?
  22. YEa, like i said I know a bass will eat anything as long as it looks alive and easy to eat. Believe me if i catch a PB ill post it on here. So far my biggest ever was a 5.8 caught on a Havoc Boyd Duckett Juice Worm. Love those things. A small weight and a steady retrieve kills the bass in my quarry lakes.
  23. Yea i didnt think they did. I figured they were in the delaware being as its such a large fishery. I doubt theyd be in my local quarry lakes i fish a lot. I use craw plastics and jigs a lot and the bass eat em so ill continue to use them. I know bass will basically eat anything as long as it moves and looks like an easy meal. @Raul, i think matching the hatch can be important sometimes. Ive had days where i couldnt buy a bite, then switched to something that looks like the forage and the bite was on. I agree its not as important as some say. I googled it and there is 13 species of crayfish in PA.
  24. And if they dont, does it make sense to use crawdad imitating lures?
  25. Do crawdads exist in all waters? I live in Philadelphia. I fish mostly some small quarry lakes and the Delaware River sometimes. Do you think they are in these bodies of water? Ive never seen one so i have no idea. Is there a way I can find out?
