I use a colt combat elite for home defense and i practice a lot with the weapon.Pistols are fine for home defense as long as you practice real situations you mite get into. One of my drills is to shoot a man sized target in the head without hitting a life size target of my son at distances of 30 yards and less. I can and with practice anyone can.
