  1. i had a champion 735c but sold it tuesday. the tip on that was waay too soft for a med hvy powered rod and it cost me too many fish even when throwin that knock out hookset. bought a powell 753c, 2 inches longer but same action and med hvy rating, took it out tuesday and today and brought every fish to the boat. ill stick with powell rods, best rod for the money imo. now thats not sayin dobyns arent good but they are a bit over priced and over rated imo. id like to know just exactly what makes the champion and champion extreme rods sell for 249 and 349 a piece cus i dont see it and surely didnt feel it.
  2. i usually only use 3 sizes, 1/2, 3/4, and 1oz so it depends. if im throwin football jigs i usually always throw a 1/2. i do throw 3/8 also but mostly 1/2. for pitchin, ill use 3/8-1/2 depending on cover and how fast of a fall rate i want. ive used 3/4oz at times but rarely. if im punchin mats or slop, im goin with a 3/4-2oz tungsten sinker with a punch skirt and various plastic baits.. i dont like standard jigs for punchin.
  3. sunline sniper!!!! this stuff is ridiculous! very low stretch, great abrasion resistance, very managable on both casting and spinning gear, great sensitivity. its just the best imo. even sunlines super fluorocarbon is awesome and its onlo 14.99 per 200yd spool. if i couldnt use sunline next in line would definantly be vicious pro elite, its some really good stuff. as for seaguar, never, ever, ever again will i have that stuff spooled up. cost me too many fish on break offs and has way too much stretch for my liking.
  4. thanks guys. yea im torn at the moment because i want to love it but its just cost me too many fish and not to mention one that wud have possibly won a tournament for me. ive never had that issue with my powells or cashions. idk what im gonna do just yet.
  5. when i fish dirty water, i almost always throw black and blue. whether its a jig or plastic, its black and blue. watermelon red works great too because it is a dark bait and the fish get a glimpse of that red flake flashing and go into kill mode. ive thrown a shad colored spinnerbait with double willows and killed em. ive thrown chatterbaits in shad colors, black/blue, and white and chartruese and had good luck. one thing that ive absolutely whacked em on was a black/blue jig with a blue sapphire zoom chunk. dark colors usually work best in stained water but if the fish can "feel" it, they can zero in on it.

brown, brown/gp, brown/black, brown/orange, brown/rust/gp/dark gp/cinnamon/blue, and of course good ol' black/blue. ive killed em on all these but really have done the best with a straight brown fine living rubber jig and a watermelon red double tail grub. i really gotta try that pb&j/smoke. ive had my eye on it for awhile now.
  7. yea im feelin the same now. im usin it for jigs, plastics, flippin, pitchin, that stuff. its a 5 power but really doesnt feel like it at all. its got a pretty soft tip.
  8. well, this rod has kinda disapointed me a bit. ive given it a few months and im just not happy with it. ive lost more fish on this rod in the 3 or so months ive had than i think i have with any of my other rods. i know how to set a hook and play a fish. i dont have that problem with my other rods and they dont cost me 280+ after taxes. idk what the deal is. all his bein said, does anyone else have this problem with this rod? could i be doin somethin wrong? im planning on selling it tuesday but still might just keep it, idk yet.
  9. i used to used vicious pro elite and loved it. it is cheaper than other fluoros but not by much, few bucks at best. this stuff really did impress me. it was strong, low stretch, sensitive, very abrasion resistant, and great knot strength. the only reason i stopped using it was because of the diameter. its good in the lower pound test lines but the 20-25 pound test is pretty darn thick. other than that its great stuff.
  10. oh yea, forgot the mention that if you dont want to use a snell knot, use a palomar. easy, fast, and mad strong.
  11. i use 50lb braid for heavy cover and stained water flippin/pitchin and never have issues with breakage. i never ever use an ewg for flippin and i never ever use any knot other than a snell when using braid. i prefer straight shank hooks as well as offset round bends over ewg's. ill use ewg hooks depending on what bait im fishing but like i said, i prefer a straight shank or offset. now the reason for using the snell knot is because it actually kicks the hook up and out against the sinker and hooks the fish in the roof of the mouth most the time, not to mention its mad easy to tie and super strong. the reason for my hook preference is simple, the hook point isnt straight in line with the eye of the hook. that in itself can sometimes cause a missed hook sets. if you prefer an ewg, use a pair of needle nose pliers to bend the shank up a bit so that the hook point isnt directly inline with the eye.

haha awesome! ill most definantly throw em next saturday.
  13. get all the diesel rods, theyre awesome. dont be afraid of the price or the no warranty thing. ive never ever broken a rod and im pretty hard on my stuff at times. these rods are every bit as good as the max and endurance series.

bass dude, not this time no. i was using a 4/0 bmf hook with a pegged 3/8oz tungsten sinker and pitchin it in the cattails, at stumps, next to laydowns, even chunk rock. i will however be throwin it on the biffle hard head or something similar come tournament time and drag it, maybe hop it, and even crank it so that it just nicks the bottom.

geez these things are insane! got em in yesterday from tw, went to the river and pitched this bait everywhere and those fish just hammered that thing! it was crazy! i pitched ither baits i used in the same places and nada, in goes the biffle bug and KONG!!!! straight up annihilation. anyone else use these things? if so how do you prefer to use them? theyre a very versatile bait and im goin to throw it a lot in my upcoming tournament. i dont really think anyone else around here uses them but i could be wrong.
  16. yamamotos are imo the best. 99% of the time my jig trailer is a yamamoto double tail and always seems to produce. id say stick with 5 and 4 inch double tails, 2 perfect sizes. i cant find the 3 inchers anywhere in my area.
  17. lews speed spool and powell or rods, cant beat em if your lookin to spend 250 or so for a great combo. if youre tryin to spend more, stick with lews and go with a dobyns, phenix, falcon, ect.
  18. i use em a lot and love em. ive always used them with a sinker be it t rigged, c rigged, or on a shakey head. theres really no limit and the key is to think outside the box. try em weightless, who knows, the fish might annihalate em cus its somethin they havent seen. theyre great as a jig trailer when you want more of a subtle action. these baits are really second to none.
  19. ive got em both and id choose the powell over the dobyns. im in the process of gettin rid of the dobyns as we speak. the tip on the dobyns is way too soft for my liking. i lost more fish on the dobyns in the 2 or 3 months or so that ive had it then i have with any of my powells, cashions, and phenix even with a gnarly hookset.
  20. hmm i usually only throw a brown jig with either a green pumpkin, gp red flake, watermelon, watermelon/red/black, or a cinnamon/black yamamoto double tail grub year round. the only thing that changes with the seasons is the color of the trailer. ive had so much success tying and throwing just a brown jig year round that i guess ive kinda just stuck with it. i do add some gp, watmln, black, rusty brown, and purple in there oonnnce in awhile.
  21. awesome thanks guys. im a righty. looks like ill be forkin out the extra 30 bux today for the mg, cant wait.
  22. yea possibly. a lot of my buddies use invisx and swear by it. i just cant get over the fact that a so called quality fluoro would break on a hookset. its obviously left a very bad taste in my mouth. my buddies have said the one thing theyve noticed and arent fond of is the amount of stretch invisx has but thats it. sunline has been beyond good to me so i see no reason to ever change.
  23. yea i use both 4 and 5 inch double tailers for jig trailers and the 5" do have thicker legs but both are awesome.
  24. nothin but sunline. sniper, shooter, supernatural, reaction, fx2, and super fluoro.
  25. the jigs i make and either a yamamoto double tail grub(99% of the time), flappin hog, excite baits raptor tail chunk, or zoom super chunk jr and sr. i pretty much only throw brown jigs, sometimes black/blue and green pumpkin craw. i like pepper jigs as well.
