  1. 18 lb bag came out of sampsons today. big fish was well over 6. I think the season is definitely here.
  2. sounds like you need to fin a new mechanic
  3. as long as you use a product that meets manufacturers specs they have to honor your warranty. otherwise there would be no aftermarket products on the market for anything and we would all have to pay up the wazoo for everything we own. the Sierra semi synthetic is probably one of the best gear oils out there pricewise and quality wise. we go through about 100 gals a year at our shop and have never had a problem.
  4. you are going to need at least 25hp to accomplish what you are asking about.with 2 guys and light gear you might get on plane with a 15 hp. forget that with 2 adults and 2 kids. I think that if you are stretching to afford the bare minimum hp then maybe you should look at the used market. there are tons of boats out there for not alot of coin.
  5. we sell those props. most aluminum props are now a removable hub system. it allows companies to make one prop that will fit multiple motors via different hubs. I haven't seen any performance loss due to this system. with stainless I would probably want a fixed hub but then your talking a whole different ballgame anyways.
  6. what year is the motor? I am not sure what years had the problem but there is a rubber grommet under the powerhead that get's pushed out of place and restricts water flow. I have seen this on a bunch of these motors. in order to fix it you need to pull the powerhead and replace the grommet. really a job for a marina to do. symtoms would be occasionally at first then happening all the time. only shows up at high speed. you can try thermo, pump and other items first but this is most likely your problem. definitely do not reccomend disconnecting the alarm buzzer.
  7. needs a carb cleanout. probably has a clogged low speed jet.
  8. fished a small T at monponsett yesterday. we only managed one fish but there were two bags over 16 for the day(handful of guys got skunked). went back today and got a pick while the guy who's boat I was on caught 3 bass to 3.5lbs on the jig. air temps neared 70 and water temps around 50 when we left at 2:30. spring is coming in a hurry. if anyone wants to get out on a moday I am available.
  9. I am still a non boater Grampa. probably til about August. need to find a new apartment as our landlord is selling the place and doesn't want to renew our lease. wife tells me a place to live is more important than a bass boat. as far as the 15th I am out duer to the fact that I'm fishing ABA as a non boater at Wequaqet that day. if anyone is interested a friend of mine has been running some open team tourneys on the south shore. I have been fishing on his boat(this is my first year tourney fishing) and everyone has a blast. we fish every sunday until the clubs get going for the year.
  10. I am out for that weekend guys. that is a good weekend to hit mashpee though. ABA is fishing Wequaqet so that should help bring down some of the boat traffic/ fishing pressure.
  11. I couldn't agree more...I have both and the 7'3" is a pool cue of a rod. really should be rated a heavy. the 7'6" is perfrect for pitching/flipping. lots of backbone too
  12. I know, just think how good the fishing will be come April...
  13. not sure about the circulators. freind went there today and got 8 keepers. had one big fish but dropped it at the boat. another friend of mine is setting up a small open tournament there in a week or two so we've been doing some recon.
  14. this kind of got dead ended? anyone up for meeting in the next two weeks? We could also just do it on here if that would be easier for everyone. Would be nice to meet everyone in person though. side not: got out on Monday and managed a few bass at Santuit Pond.
  15. there are a bunch of clubs in MA as well as a few ABA divisions. I know that Cape Cod Bass is looking for new members. A quick web search should give you a list of clubs in your area.
  16. I would makes sure that whoever is going to rebuild it can tell you why it blew up before having them do any work. same goes for a replacement powerhead. finding out the cause should be the first course of action. you also need to condider that it is a 10+ yr old motor. weigh that cost against replacing with a newer model. those early opti's were problematic.
  17. if your compression is at 80 then you have serious problems. those motors don't run well under 110 per cylinder. If this were at my shop the next step would be to tear it down and figure out what happened.
  18. any lower unit gear oil will work just fine. for oil, any tcw3 oil mixed at 50:1 will do the trick. to get a 50:1 mix you add one pint of oil to 6 gals of gas. those are great old motors and run very good when tuned properly.
  19. unfortunately it's hard to tell how things are supposed to go from the parts breakdown. tomorrow when I get to work(have mondays off) I'll see if I can scan the the factory repair manual that shows how it goes together. I'll also make sure I to get the proper shift shat height for it. I thought about disconnecting the cables but on that motor it can be a real pain. they have a stupid pin that goes in from the backside and is a real pita to lign up. almost more than the shift rod end screw.
  20. I thought about that too but on that motor they didn't use an aluminum shift block and it doesn't have the linkage that the bigger motors have. kind of hard to get it backwards. the shift block will only go on one way and the screw wont go in period if you could manage to get it on wrong. I'm thinking that he took the shift shaft out of the lower when resealing it and didn't get it line up right when he put it back in. also might not have it adjusted right. if the cables never came off then when going back together he might have screwed the shaft into the cradle too far and it wont move enough to find forward. I can check on the sift shaft proper height tomorrow when I go back to work. that sounds like it's the most likely answer.
  21. any chance we could do Sunday evening. I have an awards banquet that night to attend. otherwise I'm pretty open. Bass Pro restaurant may also be an option as I'm sure nobody has a problem taking a trip there. the food is cheap enough and a few cold ones never hurt anybody. it would be a little further for any cape guys though so up to all of you. I can be anywhere in about 30-45 mins on a weekend.
  22. the cradle is in the gearcase. I'm trying to understand how far you went in taking the case apart. if you took the shaft out of the case then you could have put it together wrong. those gearcases are tough to work on. if you have a repair manual it should show you how things should go in there
  23. only one cable should move for shifting. one shifts froward and reverse, the other is for throttle. might have put them on backwards
  24. which screw did you have trouble with? the one up top or the one in the side of the gearcase? if you took out the one in the gearcase then you might have missed the shift cradle when you put it back in. with the gearcase off can you get it in both gears? lot of things could be wrong there.
  25. how many guys do we have and where would be a central loaction? thinking somewhere around 95 or 24/495 area? not sure where guys are coming from. I'll do some leg work on finding a place.
