The only thing that gets attention straight out of the box is the spool bearings. Otherwise all the factory grease and oil stays for the first year. I fish Shimano only now, and don't have the major excess problem that I have seen in other brands that I have tried. That is the way the cheaper made reels are disguised though.

I use none of them for topwater, good ole Trilene mono for me.

Alright style is it for me. Haven't had one break yet.

I want a Core, but the wife says NO WAY. She isn't to keen on me spending $200 for a reel as it is. Its funny, I had all my rods and reels lined up against the wall on her Grandfathrs porch this weekend. She knows the prices of fishing equipment, she reads the BPS catalogs. As she and her uncle added up the 2 Chronarch50Es, 1 Chronarch200E7, 1 Curado200E7, 1 Curado50E, 1CiticaE, and 1 Citica G6, plus all the rods and tackle, she looks at me and says, "you know, you could buy a nice little boat for what you have tied up in this equipment". I just smiled as I laughed and told her "it could be worse".

I've been using spinners for 20 years without trailer hooks, why change now? When you feel the fish hit the bait and miss (and you can tell when that happens), you stop the retrieve, then slowly continue, they will kill it. I'm not knocking the trailers, I do have some with them, but they were from a trade. Do they work? I couldn't tell you if they are better or not since I don't have a problem without the trailers.

Nothing wrong with it. There are many in the FireFighter tourney who wear jerseys with brands on them. I say if its a company that you use and like, why not sport it?

So far so good. I have had zero problems so far. These things are pretty tough with good sensitivity and power. I think the weakest part are the whole guides themselves, but they havent bent or broke yet.

Well, today we only caught 3. Had alot of bites, but could only hook 3. It seemed as if today they were kind of grabbing them and swimming, but just not engulfing them. Caught 2 on hollow frogs, and it was fun watching them swim to them in that shallow water. They came up to it and like Jaws, just poked their heads out and ate them ever so gently. The other 1 was caught on a lizard by me. Overall for the weekend it was pretty good fishing considering the warm winter was messing with the fish. Saw plenty of beds. Gonna toss a green worm from the bank later before we head back south. I caught 3 yesterday afternoon from the bank, gonna see what will happen later.

Look for someyhing that has the word "Shimano" on it.

Braid scissors from BPS works for me.

I would not cast them through the guides. Rather, if your leader is short enough, you may be able to cast with the swivel without it going through the guides.

I have been cleaning my own reels since I was 10, dont say it shouldnt be done. You have to start sometime, and somewhere. 20 years of maintaining my own stuff, and Shimano reels havent changed that much. I can now do it blind folded if I needed to.
