  1. I had the same problem with a Sellus rod. I slid the plastic male piece up, put super glue on the rod where it was supposed to be, then slid the sleeve back down onto the glue. Let it sit for 20 minutes, good as new.
  2. This morning was slow. No bites. Went out again around 1300, caught 3, but lost 1. We are gonna try tonight again. My wifes other uncle came, brought his boat. Can we say challenge?
  3. Each has their ups and downs. I can get certain things from each place that the others dont have. Also, each has different sales.
  4. Its hard to plan a day of fishing. Wind, weather, sun, etc all have a factor. One second the bite can be on, then like a light switch they stop.
  5. Got up here last night to my wife's other Grandfathers house in Central FL. He lives on a private lake, and her uncle and I have been on/off the water all day. We started out this morning at 0600. The bite was a little slow. He picked one up in the first 30 minutes. After about another 30 min of nothing, I then picked up 3 in about 20 min using a humping toad. After that, nothing happened for the next 2 hours, so we headed in. We went back out around 1200 to see if we can get any fish to bite. Nothing for 2 hours. We then called it for the afternoon. After eating dinner around 1600, we decided to just give it another try. We headed out, and found the fish on the beds in the area we had scoped out earlier. Her uncle threw to an area that had some movement, and he ended up pulling a good 5lber out. We fished through the rest of te area, but the bedding fish were not having the bait, just swimming away. The time was creeping around 1830, and the sun was sinking in the horizon. Just as it was on the verge of becoming dark, the fish became alive. As we were swimming toads and EZs, the fish were coming out of the water and crushing the bait. In the next 30 minutes of fishing (before we couldn't see our hand in front of us), I pulled in another 4 fish. It was so dark, I really couldn't see the toad swimming. I could only cast in a general area, and listen to the bait swim along the surface. Once I would hear the splash of the strike, count to 2, then set the hook for the fish. It was a pretty decent day of fishing, as we did it all from a 10 foot Gheenoe.
  6. I usually do it where the gill plate meets the bottom jaw. Just be very gentle while weighing the fish. Make sure they aren't thrashing around.
  7. If you are planning on the attempt (its not too bad as long as you are systematic in the approach) do it on the cheapest reel you have first to get an understanding of the internal system.
  8. What are you nuts? Its hard enough to stand and fish, let alone shoot video. Im sure my wife and her aunts were taking pictures as they were laughing at us. Haha.
  9. Lets do it! I just need a boat to get on.
  10. Well I have a new response to this topic. I am currently up in Lakeland Fl, and am fishing from a canoe out on a private lake. Not just me, but my wifes uncle too. The canoe is about 10ft. We both are standing on the canoe and are pitching jigs at times. Its a balancing act, but we got it down, lol.
  11. Just look for the reels that say Shimano on it.
  12. I would either go for a used CuradoE5 or a ChronarchE5. But if your still gonna go with either of those 2, they are 2 different styles. The Calcutta is a round reel, while the BB1 is a low profile caster. I dont really like round reels myself due to they are too big for my hands, so I would go with the BB1. Yes I said that Hootie, I voted for the Lews. I think I need to sit down, Im starting to feel faint.
  13. You can, but I personally only use that knot for braid. I use the clinch knot for nylon lines, to me it holds better.
  14. I used similar equipment. All my reels are Shimano E series now. From the Citica to the Chronarch.
  15. Welcome aboard.
  16. If you have a fast enough boat, you can go out to the Alley and fish. Otherwise you are pretty much all in canals throughout. If you can get out by the middle of nowhere canal, its pretty good all back in there.
  17. My wife showed me this one.
  18. Well, you know, I tried to give Abu a chance to impress me.........and they didnt. So, I guess I will just have to stick to my Shimanos.
  19. As long as you label them all, its equal oppertunity!
  20. You need to cast a topwater softplastic frog along the very edge of the canal. If you get too close, they will see you, and swim off. They are very smart fish. Try the canals that run along 441 up by Glades RD and North of there. You just have to cast the banks, and keep walking. Its trial and error to find them.
  21. The magic feeding time lately has been around 1600-1900. Been crushing them with frogs along the banks. If you go out in the middle of the day, you better be pitching into some kind of structure.
  22. Peg a heavier bullet weight to the line using the toothpick technique. Or you could also use the nail weight method mentioned above. I like to flip/pitch the full size brush hogs with a 1/4oz bullet weight pegged to the line using the toothpick method.
