  1. I just use a telescoping H Flipping Stick Shimano Sellus rod. Have no problems, and its rated for 1oz, but I use a 1 1/2oz tungsten weight pegged in front of a 1/2oz jig. The extra weight helps with punching mats, and loading the tip to help Flip further.
  2. Nailed a couple of nice ones in the Sunrise area. Out by the Sawgrass area are some holes that they are thriving in.
  3. Pretty much most if not all rods are designed with the reel seat right on the blank. Having a round style reel is just the norm for it being tall.
  4. Well, if that goes on clear and only glows with a UV light, I dont see the advantage, unless your night fishing with a UV light. I would say that the fish are more prone to bite at Chartreuse color before they would bite at that. FLPS post makes sense too, but hey, try it and see what happens.
  5. If your looking for budget and strong, Ive been using the Sellus rods for a while, and they are pretty tough. MH is pretty stout, and has not given me a problem with dragging fish out of cover. In fact thats what my Chronarch 50 that I just bought is mounted on with 50# Power Pro, and does good even when snakeheads wrap me around stuff.
  6. Day 3 of using the Chronarch 50E consisted of long casts across the C14 canal. This canal is approx 40 yards wide, and was able to cast a Gambler EZ swimmer on a 5/0 EWG hook and a 1/32 oz weight within 10-15 ft short of the other side. WOW is all I have to say about this thing. Hawg Handle makes this thing retrieve a little faster, and smoother. Using 50# Power Pro, and a Shimano Sellus MH extra fast, makes for a pretty dynamite setup. I might not even bother with the Abu Veritas for a while.
  7. Are you talking about a Spike It Chart. dye type thing?
  8. You have been converted, my job here is done. Lol.
  9. Done. Just a thought, birds nests happen for many different reasons though. IE, wind change, user error (even the most experienced anglers). Questions of when and what conditions have caused them would help to pinpoint areas of problems.
  10. They have made S Fl a home, and are here to stay. As far as bass population, not a big decline. They are a great sport fish, as they do fight harder. I have seen bass and snakeheads swimming and hanging out very close to each other. In a way I believe they will all have their niche in the chain. They are great eating, not like any fish I have eaten before. People catch and kill them all the time down here. Its fun to get one of the two that guard the frey, and then watch other fish just attack the ball of frey.
  11. I have a farmers almanac site bookmarked on my phone. I look at it, but its not always correct. Just use as a guide I guess.
  12. Yes, but on my phone. I dont know how to upload any pictures on this site anymore because the uploader never works anymore. I have other pictures of snakeheads on my camera too, but cant upload.
  13. Go get the Curado, well worth the $30. Its got the crankshaft bearing, and the brake star is metal, also some other small differences. Its just built better. Both are great, but the Curado is better.
  14. Another positive day of fishing for the Chronarch 50E. Muscled in 2 snakeheads around 7-9 lbs each. The reel is a dream fighting these crazy fish, especially with the Hawg Handle mounted on it. The 50# Power Pro never shed a hair, even with death rolls and entanglements in pipes and cover. I cant wait to get this thing out in the heavy cover of the Everglades and haul out some big bass. Who wants to take me out?
  15. Brush hogs T rigged work pretty good.
  16. I got here first. Shimano shimano shimano shimano! Lol. Get it?
  17. I have never broken a Shimano drag star. The need for a metal one is pointless. Besides the fact that its not cheap thin plastic either. If having it be metal makes you sleep better at night.
  18. Why would Shimano want to be like every other company out there? Shimano is not made by a mass production company. They are a proven company. I personally dont feel any advantage to the bent handles, the SX I had didnt feel any better to me.
  19. Heavy yes, for me anyway. Down here in FL we are flipping into heavy hydrilla mats and reeds. We need the backbone to haul 8#+ bass out of cover. If your not in real thick stuff then a MH may due you well. As far as the fish seeing the line while jigging, its more of a reaction bite. If anything you could take a black marker and color strips on the line.
  20. Used it today for a couple of hours. This thing is super smooth. Casts a Gambler EZ a country mile! Soo worth the $200. The drag is soo much smoother than my Curado 50E. Slapped a Hawg Handle on this bad boy and its a workhorse.
  21. Yup. Dont worry about the drag star being plastic, the Curado 50E is plastic too, besides, are you really gonna break a drag star?
  22. A 7._ ratio reel, 50-65# braid, and a H action 7'6 rod. Done
  23. It is a fine medium for all baits. I have 12# on my Curado 50E that I use as my all around setup for fishing around town canals. Handles all types of baits no problem, and is tough enough to pull fish from weeds and cover.
