  1. Fenwick HMG is an outstanding rod for the $100 range, I exchanged a St. Croix for and HMG rod. Felt better in my hands. Best thing to do is go to the tackle store place a reel on each rod. You will be able to choose easier that way. If you have a Bass Pro Shop near by they will be having their annual fishing classic soon and you can trade in any old rod and get a coupon towards new rod. $15.00 off that HMG.
  2. I take water bottles, snacks, freezer bag for ny wallet and phone, pfd, paddle. Reading this made realize what else I should be bringing along! I throw poppers, buzzbaits, spinnerbaits, wacky rig and texas rigged worms and jointed minnows. Basically same stuff I use when I rent a boat in Northern MI. Have tried throwing my frog, I have a hard time walking it from the yak.
  3. I was in BPS last week and I liked the supreme better than the rest. Wait until the fishing classic and get a trade in coupon for $15.00 off bringing down to $85. I have the Limited edition from last year love that. I tried some of the other ones out and just did not like the way they felt.
  4. Thanks, I am looking at buying the kind that inflate when you hit the water. I have flipped once and it sucked
  5. Looking for small lakes or rivers for bass fishing this season, my son I fish of of Kayaks and have been all over Oakland county and some Northern Michigan areas. Looking to travel southeast and southwest.
  6. Thanks for the feedback cant wait until spring so I can dust off my kayaks and get out there and try it out.
  7. Anyone fish with the St. Croix Premier pistol grip? 5'6" MF, d**n pole is taller than me still. I fish out of kayak, lot of poppers and buzzbaits get thrown around. I have a Revo stx that I got at a really good price. A lot of people dont use the this style grip anymore, I used to love it.
  8. Are any of these lakes kayak friendly?
  9. I have been using Stren for years, I just change up colors to see if it really makes a difference fishing poppers and buzzbaits.
  10. I dont ice fish, have cleaned and organized my reels and tackle. Kayaks look so lonely now. Checking out the TW sales, changes everyday. I am already bored. What do other anglers do in the winter months to pass the time?
  11. Abu Garcia Vendetta comes in 6'3" spinning, pretty nice rod
  12. I bought my first St. Croix rod, a entry level Triumph, my son bought a Fenwick HMX (both spinning). Which would be the better rod for throwing top water poppers?
  13. Bought my first St. Croix rod, its Triumph figure will start at entry level see how I like it. My son got bit bought himself a Fenwick HMX, I like that rod a lot also. Picking up some lipless crank baits next. Man summer is going by much too fast.
  14. Teaching my son Bass fishing, baitmonkey has bitten him good lol. Another new rod and reel over the weekend
  15. Looking to fish teh Huron River and River Raisin. Are these rivers kayak friendly? Are there any bass?
  16. I am teaching my son how to bass fish with poppers and buzzbaits and sometimes wacky or texas rig worms. Dont wanna spend a lot to start him off with. Have an extra Mitchell 308 spinning reel, just need a rod for him. Looking at the Ugly stik GX2 or Berkley Lightning Shock. I learned on an ugly stik long ago. Any suggestions would be great. Have about $60 to spend on a rod (need to buy more lures and a box for him)
  17. I love top water poppers, buzz baits and jointed Rapalas. I am teaching myself to be patient for wacky worm and will attempted Texas rig worm next.
  18. I love top water fishing from my kayak, I still pull the trigger to early sometimes. Thanks for sharing a great video.
  19. Has anyone used the Shimano Casitas? I have read the reviews and it seems good. I am newer to baitcasting. Lews Tournament TS1XHMB, Shimano Casitas are what I looked at today. Really not sure what to get so many options. I fish about 90 % buzz baits and poppers in small lakes in MIchigan. Also looking for a good rod trying to stay under$300.
  20. Shimano Casitas is a very nice reel. Lews Tournament MB Speed spool is a very nice reel as well. I am still looking to buy a baitcaster reel and rod. I have narrowed mine down to these 2 reels. Check out the sales on St.Croix web. nice rods with good pricing. I suggest finding a reel you like and then walk around the store looking at rods, most places will let you put reel on the rod to see how it feels. Welcome aboard, I have learned a lot by reading the forums.
  21. Thanks, I was looking at Lews today at Gander Mountain. They have quite few. Any suggestions on a good starter reel?
  22. Thanks for all of the awesome input. I have been looking at some Lews and a few of the new Ardent reels. They have some with 31-35 IPT with gear ratios. I love burning buzz baits and spinnerbaits.
  23. Thanks I will check that out
  24. Is bass fishing with a baitcaster better or is it more personal preference? I can throw all my top water lures with a spinning setup, want to learn to throw a baitcaster better. Trying to convince myself why do I want a baitcaster set up? How much better is it?
