  1. Another way to find out quick is to dropshot a 3" gulp grub, everything and anything will eat that thing
  2. Another big key for me was to basically forget everything you know about casting a spinning rod/reel. With a spinning reel, you tend to whip the rod overhead, and you can cast as hard as you want without fear of backlash. However, these two things cause major problems on a baitcaster. Especially when starting, you need to cast a bit easier and let the reel do its job. As your thumb gets better and better, you can start casting harder and further, but start with shorter distances. As well, It was much easier for me to make a sidearm cast as opposed to an overhead cast when learning to use a baitcaster. You may also want to try learning with braided line. It casts a bit easier and IMO is harder to backlash and easier to get the backlash out. Keep at it, you will get it with time!
  3. Ive used some of their stuff, very quality baits.
  4. The hydra has balls on the end of each tentacle and flair a bit more. They also have a slightly larger profile
  5. Appears to be a Gamakatsu superline EWG with a punch skirt and bullet weight
  6. I use a 3-4 ft fluoro leader, mostly in 20 lb but will bump down to 15 in light cover or clear water. To be quite honest, I have no clue if the leader makes an impact on fish catching, but It makes me feel good so I use it. With the right knot (I prefer the Alberto), I cannot see a leader being a detriment, so I tie one on. One area where the fluoro is paramount is around boat docks or zebra muscles (a northern thing). Braid is not very good in terms of abrasion resistance, but the fluoro helps combat this.
  7. 50 lb powerpro braid, 20 lb fluoro leader.

I prefer the Gamakatsu wicked wacky hooks, either a 2/0 or 3/0. Very good hook!
  9. Up here on Oneida, I catch a lot of walleye pitching jigs and beavers on deeper grass beds
  10. 1/2 oz gold sexy shad is my favorite
  11. She would enjoy them in the fridge MUCH better if she smelled those eggs after a few days left out of the fridge
  12. I would also like to give a quick shoutout to Rich at Hydrilla Gear. Although I have not spoken to him specifically regarding his great products, I have spoken with him over the phone regarding the business side of things. I have found him to be extremely knowledgeable and willing to help further the sport of fishing by being willing to invest in tomorrows professional bass fishermen. I look forward to working with Rich in the future, and although our dealings have been brief, I can vouch for his willingness to work with you on a one on one basis.
  13. There is absolutely nothing quite like that rush you get when your flippin the slop with a big ol' broomstick, heavy braid, and a hook big enough to catch a tuna, and you get absolutely thumped. You reel down, take a step back, and swing for the fences: the battle is on.
  14. She sounds like a keeper
  15. Another one to the list: Big Fish. Im glad I fell asleep, it was TERRIBLE
  16. I don't use red hooks on cranks, but I do on topwaters. I will put one red hook on the front hook hanger and use regular black on the back. The logic here is that if the red does attract strikes, the fish will hit the middle of the bait. If it misses the middle hook, then it has a good chance of still snagging on the back one. However, I''m not really sure if it actually makes a difference, but i'm confident with it. On a side note, your "mystery lure" appears to be a shad rap shallow http://www.cabelas.com/crankbaits-rapala-shallow-shad-rap-lure-2.shtml?WT.tsrc=CSE&WT.mc_id=GoogleProductAds&WT.z_mc_id1=13331010&rid=40&mr:trackingCode=93ADB7CC-958E-DF11-A0C8-002219318F67&mr:referralID=NA&mr:adType=pla&mr:ad=21232639271&mr:keyword=&mr:match=&mr:filter=43600702871
  17. I would not do it on the decks, but would consider it on the lowered floor around the consoles. That carpet always seems to be wet and nasty, plus the bed liner may aid in better drainage.
  18. Easy, heck i'l cut it down to 2! PB&J (green pumpkin w/ a bit of purple) Black and Blue
  19. I usually try to keep it to 4-6 rods on the deck at all times, I make sure to put a rod away if i don't see a need for it in the next hour or so.
  20. for the lake, Sept- nov as Jfranco said, but my best time is usually mid october. As for the spring, you can catch them from shore close to creek mouths
  21. The browns and steelies up on Ontario get nice and chunky, if they are biting then a 10 pounder isn't uncommon. My technique includes a spinning combo with braid and a 3/4 oz spoon, chucked as far as possible and reeled in as fast as i possibly can. Give it a pause every once in a while and hold on!!
  22. Flip bait in, watch line until hits bottom. "weigh" the lure and feel for a bit, reel in, repeat. Each cast takes no longer than 8-9 seconds if its shallow (deeper takes more time for bait to actually sink, but as soon as is stops sinking it gets weighted and reeled in).
