  2. Pull out the drop shot! Get over the school of fish so you can see them on your electronics and drop the drop shot down to them (you can see your lure going down to them on the screen). Keep the lure a few feet above the fish, give it a jiggle, and the fish won't be able to resist.
  3. I prefer wire tied as opposed to the collars as the collars tend to slip when skipping or pitching heavy cover. Its a pain having to push that skirt and collar up every 5 casts...
  4. Went out last weekend and absolutely SMOKED them, had 12 over 24" in 2.5 hrs. Tons of browns out on the Big O!
  5. Put on the biggest one (24 V 70 lb). Its always better to have more when it comes to trolling motors.
  6. Where exactly in upstate NY are you located? There are lots of bass clubs in the area...
  7. 3.75 Nice fish!
  8. I use either 15 or 20 lb braid (4 or 6 lb mono diameter) on all my spinning reels, works great! I do fill 1/4 or 1/2 of the spool with mono first though, you can still put a lot of braid on there...
  9. Go perch or bluegill fishing! They are tasty and a little more abundant up here
  10. These two boats are very hard to compare as they are very different. Boat number one is going to be less comfy to fish from, obviously much slower and limited to small water, but easier to launch and cheaper on gas. However, the motor is a major concern and i wouldn't touch it without the advice of a well-respected mechanic. Most of the value is in that motor so this should be your main concern. Boat number 2 is going to be faster, more comfy to fish from, access to big waters, and can be used to fish with multiple people or in a tourney. However, there is going to be more secondary cost due to a lot more gas consumption and more expensive motor repairs if a problem arises (again, have a mechanic give it a full sweep). From appearance, this boat could also use a new trolling motor. If everything passes inspection, the asking price is pretty fair (i would offer 2k cash).
  11. If you go into the sale section of takclewarehouse, they have a nice Powell max wacky rig spinning rod (6'10" med x-fast). This is a great rod for senkos.
  12. I used some of that plastic decking material for my deck extension. Works great and is completely waterproof. However, it is kind of heavy and expensive, but if you can get your hands on it, it would be a good alternative.
  13. I use 30 lb braid with a 4-5 ft Berkely Big Game mono or P-Line cxx copoly leader. The leader helps "push" the nose of the bait to the side due to its stiffness, making walking the dog easier. As well, it adds some shock absorption, floats, good abrasion resistance, and tangles a lot less. I tie leader to braid via an alberto, and tie the mono to the lure via a loop knot.
  14. IMO, pitching is a reaction-type presentation. The bass don't have time to sit there and smell the bait deciding if they are gonna eat. A human scent might cause them to spit the bait a millisecond faster, but if i'm pitching i know exactly when i get a bite and it doesn't take long from bite to hook set.
  15. 1 knocker spook, foxy shad is money
  16. Get the Ride 115, there is really no comparison. The ride is a MUCH better fishing platform, you can stand in it, it will track much better, and it will not be any slower.
  17. Bingo. This is the key, if you fish big lakes with big waves, wait for a bigger boat. Otherwise, you can find a smaller boat that is nicer and with better fishability IMO.
  18. I've noticed this problem as well, and came up with a simple solution. When you buy one of those eagle claw or similar rod guide replacement things, they come with a hot-melt glue stick. Basically, i heat the end of the stick up with a lighter, then roll the hook shank in it, putting a thin film of the glue over the bottom of the keeper and maybe a 1/4"of the actual hook shank below it. I do this to all of my Gammi heavy cover hooks, and it makes those keepers last much longer than the 2-3 fish they last without the glue.

Braid is the best choice for rippin. There is zero stretch so you can clear grass off your bait with a good pop of the rod tip. One tip is to hold your rod perpendicular to the line and watch the tip. As your reeling, if you see it start to load up at all, pop the rod tip. The rod tip will load as the bait gets into the grass before you can actually feel it, so you have a better chance of rippin it free. Also, try those EWG trebles (Gammi r KVD Triple grips are good ones), they seem to catch a little less grass than standard round bend hooks.
  20. x3 on insert-free!
  21. 50-65 lb braid with 20 lb fluoro leader if needed
  22. Gammi 1/0 splitshot/dropshot although im thinking about trying a #1
  23. Get out the big boy broomstick rod, 80 lb braid, big flippin hooks, 1 1/2 oz tungsten, and hold on. Get right up in there with the big nasty
