  1. I agree Steve 1357. All well kept old Ambassadeurs Ive tried, threw light lures well. A combination of years or use making them smoother and the fiber brake blocks. No better model for someone to learn how to the maintain reels on there own.
  2. I find the 4500/4600 width to be easier to palm than a low profile which is almost always wider. The 4500CB was a great reel, an odd for Abu disengaging levelwind. The C3's might still be made in Sweden but they dont seem as refined as they used to be. I will go to my dying day regretting I sold a a collection of every model available in the International series. The Pro Rocket and Pro Shop's were killer.
  3. What is your inshore like exactly? Here in Fl. it can be alot of different environments. I can only imagine those big bulls on the surf up there! I fish rivers, marshes, mangrove lined shores and flats for both reds and specks. Standard bass tackle in fine along with bass lures. Super Fluke is my go to along with the spook jr..
  4. I didnt find them any more tip heavy than most $99 rod except maybe the Veritas. But it seems more rugged than the Veritas. No name guides are a turn off but they offer several shorter models, a plus since EVERY other manufacturer is ignoring that end of the market.
  5. Get your wife involved in scrapbooking. I couldnt possibly spend as much as her now that she scrapbooks. That hobby makes fishing look like kindergarden!
  6. I caught my biggest bass, 9lbs. from a canal 20 yards across, 200 yards long and 4 feet deep. But its very diverse. Several different kinds of emergent grass, wood and even rock which doesnt exist in freshwater around here. In waters nearly overrun with cattails Ive found the same thing as you. Small bass.
  7. Yo-Zuri Edge Trembler. Slow sinks with a unique senko mimicing wobble. Not well known so the fish havent seen it. Comes in exceptional colors too.
  8. Sure you can have favorites just like you can absolutely hate for product or company. I will never touch Quantum. I wont buy Rapala unless its 50% off at Dicks. I would never buy a Carrot Stick. From the list so far Im suprised the Revo has made such an inroad toward this boards beloved shimano. Even more suprised theres hardly a mention of Daiwa.
  9. Somebody was just talking about this on another thread. Citrus based cleaners are killer to aluminum and anodization. The manufacturers warn you against it. Something I learned after ruining my wifes SUV's rims!
  10. Been fishing out of a yak for over 10 years. The Ocean Kayak Drifter is what Ive used for the last 5 years. The market has gone nuts with improvements since then. I think it best to stick with a brand name and look for a good warranty. When yu get one resist over rigging it and find what you like before making it permanent. Liek I found that with my spare tire, working a spinning outfit is a nuisance in the yak. Ive also found fly fishing easier from the yak, contrary to most everybody else.
  11. Simple Green can and will hurt many different things. Even in a diluted state. I ruined the finish of my wifes Blazer's rims once trying to get the brake dust off. The manufacturer states it is harmful to anodized aluminum even in a 50/50 solution. Ive also noticed it dull the finish on anodized bicycle parts when I worked as a bike mechanic. Bantam warns on another forum just this last week about caution when using it.
  12. The pic above to compare the Toro to a standard Revo actually shows two Toro's! A difference between the 50 and the 60 I suppose. I cast a Curado 300DSV for hours with fatigue brought on mostly by the heft of the lure more than the size of the reel. I find the Toro to be lower in profile but wider than the Curado 300. Noticibly so. Because of that I find the Toro more comfortable but only in the 50 size. Wait till the new Curado 500 comes out this year, that'll be a monster.
  13. Rods: St.Croix/Shimano but changing to Abu Veritas Reels: Abu Revo and C3's Line: Trilene/Sufix Hardbaits: Bandit YoZuri jerk baits, Heddon topwater Softbaits: Zoom/Gambler Storage: William Joseph/Plano Guide Series
  14. Stradic CI4 2500, Cumara 7'2"med, 6# sufix braid 8#mono leader. Various soft plastics Daiwa Sol casting reel, Crucial 6'6" med mod. crankbait rod, 6#sufix braid. Crappie jigs, Mr. Twister tails, bitsey jigs, wacky rigging senkos w/Circle hooks
  15. Lighter line means less memory normally. The lure will have better action, run deeper. Dont let 'pros' who water ski fish into the boat in 4 seconds be such an exaple for you and your type of fishing. Ive run 10lb mono for 1/4 cranks, I dont use heavier cranks. Ive played with 4lb mono on a Abu 1500IAR and 6lb braid on a Sol.
  16. Does the KVD crankbaits have a tighter wiggle than the usual fat crankbait, I mean its not a flat sided crank right?
  17. The Vendetta is great for the money but tip heavy in longer lengths. Claurus has a nice crisp feel to it to me and is still available in shorter lengths high ranking rods arent anymore.
  18. I still hate braid...
  19. hookless.com The possibilities will make you drool. Best part he sells the parts so you can make one just the way you want it.
  20. mikeeasttn. I enjoy 4600C3's myself. My preferred saltwater inshore reel. Theres not anything you cant do to these reels. Check out Jerry Forans custom made Ambassadeurs, smoother than any modern reel and cheaper than the newer lp's. He adds bearing supported shafts, b trap idle wheels w/bb's and such. Great swimbait reels.
  21. Sure its good! Its a Revo with a big box name stuck on it. Careful though the shimano gods will not be happy with your insight.
  22. Awesome show. God Bless Mr. Parker and the pro's that participate in that organization. That boy was full of personality, what a dollbaby!
  23. Shimano put a clear coating on their magnesium reels to prevent the disastrous reaction it has to saltwater. Thus they could state it was safe in saltwater. I would hope it wouldnt be that coating but it may be worth contacting Shimano about.
  24. Im talking about Pure Fishing, how conglomerates are eating up the Patrick Sebiles not the guy himself. Besides since when is a non american citizen entitled to the 'american dream'? As if the american dream was anything but a notion dreamed up by corporate owned media anyway.
