Sigs are great guns, carried a P-226 for twenty years. I got a P-229 the year before I retired through the dept. for $400. My eyes bugged out when I saw their price at bass pro the other day. I always wanted a Bren Ten designed after the CZ, back in the Miami Vice day!
  2. I like to think confidence plays alot into it too. I like to throw what others arent. Pointers are popular but I try Yo-Zuri Edge minnows and Sebile Koolie minnows. Ive always had better luck with jerkbaits during pre spawn, spawn and windy days.
  3. 1. Zoom Super Fluke, White Ice 2. 4" Senko, Green Pumpkin 3. Super Spook Jr., Florida Bass
  4. I have a CI4 on a 7'2" Cumara. It is perfectly matched but one issue with the rod just drives me crazy, the hook hanger. A tiny hole in the rear grip, it might be fine for a single hook rig but with a treble hooked lure it allows the lure to scratch up the reels foot/stem let alone the eva grip itself. Granted the cumara is a technique specific rod, but I dont use it that way.
  5. The bass never took a hard hit from cold here in S.W. Fl. but the tilapia sure got wiped out so did the mayans, thank God. Yesterday I hit a back country saltwater creek off Charlotte Harbor and dead fish were everywhere. Ladyfish by the hundreds with hundreds more stunned near the surface with scales turning white. Even a 10lb jewfish was dead on the bank. The Snook were energetic and aggressive though, perhaps spurred on by the easy targets all over the place.
  6. The Eon could have been the greatest reel of all time. What a series of great ideas, so poorly executed. Raul like your Shimano Bantam, I have my first Daiwa spinning reel, a silver series 5000. Ultra simple, super smooth and still running smoothly to this day having never needing a spare part since I bought it in 1976.
  7. Awhile back I saw a pic of custom rods that were done with a wrapping or paracord for the grip, it had a varnished or poly coating applied afterwards. Very sharp rod and I liked the grip idea but I havent found any info on the net on how to do it.
  8. That probaly depends on what type of fishing you do. Lots of inshore fisherman would tell you the Chronarch Mg was junk. Saltwater approved but with lots of frames dissolving from the inside out, protective coating or not. For me the Curado E is a clunker stripped of every nano ounce of weight to a point it cant handle any fish but bass. How about the Corvalus which suffered a recall back in the 90's.
  9. I have the same problem with the tiny grip of the mojo too. Sadly regripping would require going from the tip down to the grip because of the taper of the blank so I think removing and installing a new rear grip is not cost effective. Ive been thinking about trying some of the tacky grip tape sold by BPS but have heard they dont stick very well, so Im trying to live with the poorly thougt out tiny grip myself.
  10. Daiwa both ways for me. Shimano's inability to provide parts for new models like the CI4 and lack of keeping available parts for models just one series back from current(D series Curado) means I will never own another Shimano again, and I had bought 20+ upper end ones in the past 10 years.
  11. We are all just lucky there are so many brands to choose from and maybe develop a loyalty for. This forum is Shimano biased, tackletour is Daiwa biased, most surf fishing forums are Abu or Penn biased. No one should rely solely on the unseen people in the 'air' of the internet for advise when it comes to selecting a quality reel. I would hope they never rely on the advertisement passing as fishing shows either.
  12. Strong enough for more than just bass. Something I can work on myself. And even if it is made by Shimano it has to be made in Japan. No more Malaysia, no more Taiwan, no more China.
  13. Ive used my SOG Paratool for over ten years mostly while saltwater fishing and kayaking and it doesnt have one spot of rust on it.
  14. Years ago long before anyone including bill dance heard of hi-seas, I used their Black Widow mono. It is camo patterned, blue, clear, red, smoke. It was very supple and smooth when sinching a knot. Its hard to find where I live.
  15. So far the Coastal 2500 I have has held up better than any Shimano Ive used for inshore. But its finish is almost a weak as Quantum. The Daiwas gears never were quiet smooth like Shimano but have held up to small sharks and reds up to 25lbs. It has held up mechanically to be the same now as when I got it. Every Shimano has steadily lost its smoothness after experiencing a run from a huge Jack. Still though I think Im going to try Penn's Slammer, heavy but I havent heard a bad word about them searching all forums I can find. (We better knock of the saltwater talk before RoadWarrior tells us this is a bass forum)
  16. Eagle Claw doesnt make their own reels. Surely a contract factory from China like Omoto since they look so similar to the Abu C3. The PQ might be a great reel, its of the Revo family that i have enjoyed using. Sadly if you research it you find out there are alot of shortcomings with some internal parts being made out of pot metal. Check out Alan Tani's reel site before you make a decision. The C3 is tough forever, will never let you down unless you have girlie wrists.
  17. I dont think any braking system is faulty or better than the other. Each system works at different times in the cast. I personally prefer Shimano's centrifugal brakes to mag brakes. I find Daiwa's mag brakes to be absolutely useless. I dont see anything wrong with the Revo's brakes old or new. I think we are lucky to have alot of choice so you can find the system that works with your style of casting. What works for me might not work for you and vise versa.
  18. Have you tried a general cleaning and lube? If you dont feel comfortable doing it check out Shimano's video on youtube that goes step by step. Also do you loosen your drag when not used? If not remove the c clip that holds the drag disks inline in the spool and remove and inspect them. Clean and grease them if needed.
  19. Mine goes on a 7'2" Cumara. A match made in heaven, at least it will be again if Shimano ever gets foam grips back in stock. Treat your grip delicately.
  20. There really is nothing wrong w/ an Ugly Stick for cranking. The poster is right though, the Lightning Rod Shock is a suprising rod. Very light much more so than the Ugly Stick and about the same price as the Lite too.
  21. I have better luck fishing baits that do get washed away yet look lifelike. Its when they look helpless that I get the bite.
  22. Papua New Guinea for Nuigini Bass in a saltrun river. Or the Seychelles to flyfish for milkfish.
  23. Hi Lehigh Acres- Im up one county in Englewood. With all the rain our area has been getting spillways are on fire right now. I have had alot of success using Spro's BBZ Shad, but for Snook and Tarpon. All the freshwater around here has salt fish in it too. For Bass soft swimbaits like a Storm 3" Shad works great as does the Zoom Super Fluke.
  24. I saw on a news show that said one, being a county deputy, was fired and charged. He did spend time behind bars but I dont know how much. Charge was fraud and he got 250 grand.
  25. How about the Abu C3 4600? $80 and lasts forever. Nothing but the fashion police says a casting reel has to be low profile.
