  1. Be careful with simple green. I used it to clean the heavy brake dust off my wifes rims on her SUV. It dulled the shine of the anodized finish. Ive also had it dull the finish of anodized bicycle components.
  2. Wow its vicious here anymore. If it isnt Shimano only arguments its self proclaimed fish biologists who 'know' more than men who hold doctorate degrees.
  3. The Lakewood products are the bomb. Larry Dahlberg tested one and he could stand on it and us it as an elevated casting platform on his front deck. Ive been making my own with Plano 3700 boxes, dowel rods and cabinet handles. Ill try to catch my daughter when shes home and get her to help me post some pics. Homemade red neck engineered by the way!
  4. If you got your drag washers replaced under warranty they werent carbontex. Shimano would replace them with their propritory dartanium washer. Carbontex is an aftermarket product of the Smooth Drag Company.
  5. I posed that question at swimbaitnation and the general consensus was a musky rods action is not parabolic enough for bass swimbait fishing. I tried a Shimano Teramar Hvy and found it to have too stiff an action and caused lures to tumble and snag the line or themselves. Ive been looking for a Crucial swimbait rod but any kind of swimbait rod is hard to come by here in Fl.
  6. Ive used Phil Woods grease on gears with no trouble. I prefer to use Phils tacky oil on my spinning reels. Not many anglers are going to know of Phil Wood products, but they are excellent.
  7. A reel in the price range of the Chronarch shouldnt need a drag upgrade. Heck no reel worth buying should need a drag upgrade out of the box. Frankly no reel we are talking about should be made to be JUST sufficient enough for ONLY bass fishing either. I cant imagine a 300DSHV or 300E needing more or better drag. But every other Curado Ive had, has had the dartanium disks break apart while in the reel after some water intrusion after a heavy rain storm.
  8. Good luck with cut and frozen bait. Sailcat attractors on this side of Florida. I recommend staying with lures if you want game fish. Maybe use the cutbait with a popping cork to catch some small croakers and pinfish, then use them live for bait. Lure wise the Zoom Fluke in Ice, Smelt and Ark. Shiner are big Snook producers for me.
  9. A method I learned on a saltwater forum is to nose hook it with a circle hook. It offers a different twitch.
  10. Able2disable1 - is that photo in your avatar Lake Manatee? If so, great bass. Ive heard there are monsters there. (Sorry for the brief thread hijack OP)
  11. Thats odd that BPS in Dania doesnt have much salt gear. In Ft. Myers thats bout all they have. Orlando isnt much better either, its very hard to find freshwater lures in the closest bass pro's to me.
  12. Its been by best year yet for bigger bass. All this late winter and spring though. Summer this year has been 99 every day and its been just too hard to fish.
  13. Zoom is the only brand plastics I use except for the original senko. Trick worm is what Im throwing 98% of the time Im fishing. There are other innovative brands out there but they are very hard to come by in my area and I prefer to see a bait in hand before Im happy ordering over the net. Zoom is also the most reasonably priced soft plastics.
  14. No problems using braid in salt. Just be aware that debris including salt can get into the fiberous texture of the line and stay there. But that goes for in freshwater too. Just another reason not to like braid! Im sure the rinse you do to the reel will rinse the line too.
  15. Larry Nixon on every technique, Denny Brauer on Flipping and jigs.
  16. Just dont have any pressure behind the water, it'll force water into places you dont want it. An old ambassadeur is great for saltwater fishing, very tough. There was a time not so long ago when if you went to Choko. with a spinner, they would have laughed you out of town. Everybody had a good old red 5000C.
  17. Is that the one with the white painted blank? I like the model that is coming out with the sliding rear grip allowing it to shorten. I cant find a rod with a short enough grip anymore.
  18. Maybe in a real world of only bass fishing! Aluminum sideplates have alot to do with the smoothness and longevity of a reel. All to do with alignment of the internals. Thats why they have to supplement it by putting in those cross pins across the center of the frame.
  19. My fishin' partner uses Phlueger spinning reels and treats them rough. Ive watched him catch huge Snook over 42" on them and they have been champs. He throws them down on the boat, drops them on the bank and treats them like I never treat a reel. But they stay smooth, tough and take on tougher fish than any bass.
  20. I agree the old Swedish Abu's are something else. I too dont like Pure Fishing. I wont buy Berkely lines and baits. The parts for those swedish Abu's are still available and Jerry Foran custom makes those old reels to your specs. He'll even make it a C5 bearing wise and add custom JDM idle gears and such.
  21. My 2010 SX outcasts and is smoother from the get go than the 6 curado D's and 2 E's Ive owned. I see no difference in the degree of difficulty in stripping either brand down for maintenance. Knock on wood Ive yet to have a backlash on the Revo either.
  22. My badge number.
  23. To me it just looks like the Discovery family of channels has discovered Larry Dahlbergs show was on. Instead of signing him up for an hour show they get all these guys. Funny a channel that touts conservation and they have guys who dont know how to treat fish. On the Lau-Lau and Nile Perch shows he leaves the fish out of water and runs the boat down river to release it on shore for better camera shots, risking the fishes life.
  24. Ive been a Shimano maniac all my fishing life. The Curado E series was a great disappointment to me. Great performer but highly cheapened from the series before it. Sadly Shimano now doesnt support the old series even though its just 2 years superceded. On a whim I bought a Revo SX. Ive found it better in every way to the E series. I hadnt bought an Abu since the Eon debacle but more Revo's are in my future. On a side note, the finish on my Stradic CI4 is rubbing off along the edge of the rotor even though its kept in a Shimano reel bag whenever its not in my hands. Im sad to say Im thinking of other brands first before Shimano now.
  25. Boy so much hate towards this kid. With about every post he makes too. What he must think about the adults that share the same interests he does. Makes me so proud to be a forum member.
