  1. check out these guys and give them a call. www.bassboatcarpets.com
  2. Watch your ads at your local Cabelas soon. They will be $99
  3. Take a look at this motor. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0056197019615a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH_all&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Ftemplates%2Fgiftcertificate%2Fgiftcertificate.jsp%3Fid%3D0005586990011a%26podId%3D0005586%26catalogCode%3DIB%26navAction%3Djump%26indexId%3D&Ntk=Products_liberal&QueryText=motorguide+bulldog&sort=all&_D%3AhasJS=+&N=0&_D%3A%2Fcabelas%2Fcommerce%2FCabelasCatalogNumberFinder.giftCertificateURL=+&Nty=1&hasJS=true&_DARGS=%2Fcabelas%2Fen%2Fcommon%2Fsearch%2Fsearch-box.jsp.form23&_dyncharset=ISO-8859-1
  4. correct, get the unit without the bundle
  5. Installation is pretty straight forward, just like any other sonar unit. If you are mechanically inclined it should be no problem. The navionics bundled units have 2006 maps only. That is the only information that navionics would allow Humminbird to put in the unit. My has the bundle but I am using 2008 chips because of the much higher lake count.
  6. The number to the left and right are how many feet you are scanning. The SI units can scan upto 360 feet to both sides. I do agree with past Humminbirds not being the best out there, but since Johnson outdoors purchased them a few years ago they are the ones driving the industry with innovation and quality.
  7. I've had a 997c for over a year and absolutely love it. Side imaging will show you a whole new world.
  8. Humminbird 787c2. $599 at Cabelas as well. More pixels, more power and more coverage under the boat that Lowrance.
  9. Look at the Humminbird Fishin Buddies. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/links/link.jsp?id=0052954019726a&type=product&cmCat=SEARCH&returnPage=search-results1.jsp&QueryText=fishin+buddies&N=4887&Ntk=Products&Ntx=mode+matchall&Nty=1&Ntt=fishin+buddies&noImage=0
  10. The 987c is a first generation SI unit. It has a 7" screen compared to the 997c 8" screen.. The 987 operated off of 262 khz and 455 khz frequencies. The 997c uses 455 and 800 with modified cone angles for improved performance. Cabela's just put the 997 on sale for $150 off. The 987 is still a good unit but the 997 did make some improvements.
  11. Depending on the units they should both be NMEA 0183 compatible which means you can use a single gps antenna to provide position to both units. But, it provides position only. There will be no sharing of waypoints or any other data through this connection.
  12. It already is in the 2nd generation. First gen modes were the 981c and 987c.
  13. Another for Shimano.
  14. I use braided line almost exclusively and never use higher than 20lb execpt for 1 setup that I have 30lb on. All of my reels have wiffle spools, so I tie directly to the spool thrun one of the holes. No backing or tape. Other wise I would use backing. Spooling the line on as tight as possible will prevent digging in. I really like the suffix line, but have had good result with power pro, stren super braid and cabela's ripcord SI. I don't like fireline.
  15. 16 channel just means that the unit is capable of tracking more gps satelites at a time. With more satelites be tracked it could mean a more accurated position.
  16. For cranking I like a 5.1:1 reel, especially deep cranking. I have mine paired with a 6'6" med action glass rod. For other applications I primarilay use a 6.3:1 ratio, but there are a few times I like to use my single 7.1:1 reel, particularly with buzzbaits and when I am running the trolling motor fast to cover a lot of water.
  17. The solar bat mossyback lens is my favorite. I have had great results with it.
  18. He has to have the latest update installed because it added Navionics Platium support with it. I have had the same issue trying to demostrate them at my work. Sometimes it works, sometimes it locks up the unit and you have to remove the power cord to reboot it. I hope with time they will get the kinks worked out.
  19. It's is great. The advertisments don't do them enough justice. I have had a 997 for over a year with not a single problem.
  20. No, you don't need a high speed kit. My bass boat that runs over 60 doesn't need it. I have my SI transducer mounted at the bottom of the pad for SI and high speed readings at all speeds.
  21. The Humminbird units are networkable with their Interlink accessory. It will share gps, waypoints etc. You can use 1 transducer for 2 units, you will need to run them through a switch and select which unit is using at a time. You can use it with the universal sonar in your trolling motor as well, but it will only give you down looking sonar only. No side imaging in the univerasal sonar.
  22. There is no comparison to regual downlooking sonar, the side imaging is that much better. I have had a 997 for over a year and wouldn't be without side imaging ever again. You do not need 2 transducers. I have mine mounted on the bottom of my hull and have no problems. I even get high speed reading over 45 mph. You can't mount the side imaging transducer to shoot thru hull it must be in the water. I have found there is nothing I can do with my 997 sonar wise that I could with a Lowrance, but Lowrance can't touch side imaging. Get one you will not be dissapointed. http://www.humminbird.com/SideImagingContest_JanuaryWinner.aspx
  23. If you could be talked into $1000 then take a serious look at 797 side imaging unit from Humminbird. There is nothing that can compare to what side imaging can do for you. And Humminbird is the only one that has it. It is amazing.
