  1. The 787c2 is pretty hard to beat a great unit.
  2. I would make sure you unit has the latest software update installed. I believe the current version for the 797 is 3.940.
  3. You might try one of these. http://www.cabelas.com/cabelas/en/templates/product/standard-item.jsp?_DARGS=/cabelas/en/common/catalog/item-link.jsp_A&_DAV=MainCatcat21276-cat601356&id=0000844010095a&navCount=2&podId=0000844&parentId=cat601356&masterpathid=&navAction=push&catalogCode=IJ&rid=&parentType=index&indexId=cat601356&hasJS=true
  4. omaha here
  5. I have a 997c and a 787c2 with an interlink. I like the interlink a lot. All the stuff I find with side imaging and waypoint automatically puts the waypoint on the front unit so I can get right on top of the spot while on the trolling motor. I have had good result with my unit from .8 mph to over 20 mph. It does give clearer images in the 2-8 mph range if fell. I do have do disagree with some, I feel the Humminbirds are pretty easy to use and are more user friendly than their competitors. You will be happy with the 997c.
  6. Shimano Calais 100a and Kislter Helium LTA $615
  7. Cable steer motors are more responsive and quieter, but you have only 5ft of cable. The electric steer motors are slower to turn and are noisier, but with 18ft of cable you can control it from anywhere in the boat. The cable steers are a bass fishermans motor and the electric steers work great of walleye guys that like to troll.
  8. The guys that mount 2 transducers do so because they mount the SI trans. higher for protection and need the second transducer for 2d reading while on plane. I have mine mounted at the bottom of the hull and have gotten good SI readings up to 20mph or so and regular sonar to 50mph. There is no need for a 2 trans setup, the single system works fine. It does have a breakaway mount so if it does hit something it will pop up.
  9. It doesn't matter what the water clarity is like, gin clear or chocolate milk it will see through it.
  10. I have a 94 wiht a 150 Intruder and the Intruder's were some of the best carbed motors made.
  11. Yes, there should be a bolt under the head, remove that, spin the head around and replace the bolt.
  12. The transducer must be in the water, no shoot thru hull.
  13. I agree with Bud execpt about the learning curve. It is much easier to tell what you are looking at compared to standard downlooking sonar because you get picture like detail of the lake. Just my .02 worth. The Humminbird units are pretty easy to learn how to operate.
  14. The Humminbird side imaging units are amazing. It is completely different technology from what anyone else is offering right now. It will save you time on the water finding productive places to fish. You can scan up to 720 feet wide with a 997c from 2 ft deep to 150 ft. As far as interpretation I feel it is much easier that traditional sonar because you get a picture. It is like having 2 video cameras mounting on your boat, but you don't need clear water for it to work. How hard is it to interpret a picture? Traditional sonar can be difficult at times to know exactly what you are looking at. The technology is already in it's 2nd generation, it is tried and true. I do know the units are expensive, but you aren't just getting side imaging, it is also a gps chartplotter with full mapping and a dual beam downlooking sonar unit as well. The demonstrations in the store don't do them enough justice.
  15. To do a soft reset of your unit do this. 1.Turn unit OFF 2. Press and hold the PAGES key 3. Press and hold the PWR key 4. Press and hold the PWR key 4. Release both buttons when the unit beeps.
  16. nope, you will to stay with lowrance to use the same connections.
  17. The X-102c is not a gps enabled unit. It will not have gps functionality on it. You can network it to share digital data like depth and temp, but that is about it.
  18. The Humminbird side imaging units are the best fish and structure finding units made.
  19. This is a good place to start learning about sonars and how they work and its free. http://www.lowrance.com/Support/Tips-and-Tutorials/Sonar-Tutorial/
  20. Cabela's has always offered the Feugo and Sol, though for this year they did drop the Sol.
  21. The Unimap is the Humminbird background map that is included with all mapping units. The only map option for Humminbirds is the Navionics maps. Humminbirds are not compatible with other maps.
  22. The 1197 will be out in a month or so and will cost $2799. I wouldn't expect the 997 to drop in price anytime soon. It is worth it though. Once you fish with side imaging you won't want to be without it.
  23. Any gps chartplotter from Humminbird is Navionics compatible. Models include the 580, 595, 757, 767, and 787 just to name a few. The 787 can be purchased with Navionics maps preloaded into the internal memory of the unit. No chips required. Just look for NVB package.
  24. The multiple beam systems use several transducers to give you wider coverage and still allow you to see how the bottom is laid out, especially on the quad systems.
  25. The 580 comes preloaded with Humminbirds UniMap but you can load Navionics cartography into it. "Built-in 30 meter resolution UniMap; Optional Navionics Gold HotMaps Premium on MMC or SD Card"
