  1. Check for cracks in the spark plug before you get too deep into the head gasket Scenario. After that I would be looking at the gasket
  2. That would be hard to pass off running almost 40 miles an hour LOL
  3. I'm packed and ready for tomorrow fellas!!! Let's get it. Thanks!!!
  4. Hey guys looking for my first top water bass tomorrow of 2015. Temperature tomorrow here in central North Carolina will be 90° How early should I get and what would be the best lure to use on a partly cloudy day with no wind? I have plenty of colors of frogs and buzz baits. Lake should be pretty quiet as the weekdays hardly anyone goes. I am off work tomorrow. :-)
  5. Boat is a 1989. Motor is "said" to be an 89 also. Maybe a few years newer the seller told me a few months back when I got it. There is no remote tank for the oil. So if it's not a VRO is it just called a Johnson 70?
  6. I've seen that video a bunch. Those people got hurt. Bad! Good to watch as a reminder. When I make those u turns I feel like I'm on a roller coaster with a tickle in my stomach from the "g force" and the air racing against my face. It's a rush. It may not be a huge 300hp monster but my lightweight 16ft Cajun and that peppy two stroke 70 horse Johnson will boogie. When I get the urge to throttle down and duct tape over it I remember videos like that and also the others on the lake too. Safety takes precedence over all else. The boat and conditions will dictate when I need to speed it up or slow it down. Great replies!!!
  7. 1989 Cajun 16ft. Johnson outboard 70hp. I mix the oil directly in the fuel tank with a 50:1 ratio. I am buying new decals as I just had the motor top case painted. Some of the ones I found say JOHNSON VRO and some say JOHNSON. Not sure how to tell???
  8. I have plenty of buzz baits. I'm excited now! lol
  9. Thanks Benny!!! Will do. By the way I live in Angier in Harnett County near Lillington. :-)
  10. Good point Glenn! I would also add that good judgement is vital too. I feel that "rush" when that two stroke puts me in the seat like a roller coaster when I start a hard turn. It makes me want to get more power!!! I use self control. :-)
  11. Thanks guys. This is my first bass boat and I am still learning a lot. I had john boats, kayaks, and canoes and this is a whole new ball game. :-)
  12. That makes good sense. I always wondered if it is possible though???? I guess it can be done but like you said it only takes that one "pebble in the road" to toss a cyclist over the bars.
  13. Do the guys with the big motors like 250 and 300 horsepower run wide open in the turns? Or will they flip over?
  14. I thought top water was most efficient in calm waters? Wouldn't the wind make the lure harder to detect?
  15. My friend said that when I make a turn in my boat I go too slow. He said "kill it in the turns". I am not talking about sharp turns but like a big U turn when you want to go the opposite direction in the lake. I usually go like half throttle he goes full throttle when he drives my boat in the turns lol. It's a Johnson 70 on a 16 foot Cajun.
  16. I was out about lunchtime to midday. Maybe I need to try the morning time and evening time when the water temps cool off some???
  17. Here in central NC air temps have been about 85. Water is high 70's to low 80's. When does top water action start!?!?!? I tried a frog the other day. 80 degree air and water temp the same. Calm waters. Found a few nice coves on the lake. Trolling motor on quietly. I did different variations of retrieves and pops. Nothing. Tried all the stumps and downed trees. Nothing. I even casted in places where bass seem like they would kill a frog!!!!! Nothing. :-(. I was so anxious I could literally feel my heart beat in my neck lol Is it too early in the year still??
  18. I'll say it again.... IBTL. And also when the lock comes in, the mods need to close this thread with proper theatrical verbiage. it is "end scene" ....... not "and scene". Just sayin. :-)

  20. Spot on with the sweep. When I set the hook on anything I usually do it like the fish owes me money. When there is a treble hook involved, just a light sweep does the trick.
