  1. i know that i do not fish the same water on most of the creeks and rivers that i fish in the summer as i do in the spring fall and winter changes up look for the most oxygenated water such as where springs and creeks feed into this creek and deeper holes
  2. just make sure to check your local laws some states make it illegal to have "pet" game fish
  3. i try to think of big rivers as separate little lakes and break them down like that fish the same lures on the same types of structure and cover
  4. sad to say it would have to be Hank Parker and Bill Dance I used to watch these guys the most growing up However most of the fishing that i have done is trial and error since my dad did not fish
  5. in fast water it is tough to beat in-line spinners
  6. well considering it is hot as heck right now find the cooler water look for deeper holes and fish slow and find shade look for creek runoffs and fish eddies close to this water also find fast water leading into the deep holes this is the oxygen rich water wear sunscreen and take plenty of water and power bars with you and bienvenidos
  7. float and fly is a technique mainly used on gin clear lakes i have never tried it on a river but it might work
  8. sorry i am late there is an old mill near nelsonville that has a deep hole there throw anything and everything tubes grubs pointers x-raps blaze minnows flukes senkos all will work next time down this way pm me and i can help you out
  9. the detail in the first pic around the fins is more life like
  10. taking rws advice remember swim the grub do not fish it like a tube or a jig also swimbaits work smallmouths have bigger mouths then people think
  11. just noticed that you are fishing elkhorn creek there fish floating rapalas, roostertails, cabin creek tubes, and senkos go to back water tackle off of new circle road and tell them where you are fishing they will put you on fish
  12. had three to 4 foot waves so we had to stay inside the break walls needless to say we only caught one and it was a dink 18 inches however caught a 8 pound sheephead
  13. this late in the year find deeper holes
  14. no need to downsize lures to catch smallmouth imo they are more aggressive then the bucket mouths and will hit the same size baits
  15. well that is productive but about as fun as being back boated
  16. just thought i would ask this here as opposed to starting another thread do you find it best to swim your grub or jig it i always thought of a grub as imitating a minnow so i always swim them and vary the speed to cover the different depths of water for that reason i always use a lighter color grub for the waters i fish
  17. nice fish trout good to see that you are still posting i talked to you about two years ago under unother screen name i am originally from parkersburg and fish the elk most of the time
  18. i used to be a collector as well however i was one of those guys that took everything in the world to the lake with me after awhile i got tired of wasting time moving stuff around and money on stuff just to look at i throw white all of the time spinnerbaits, jerkbaits, grubs and flukes buzzbaits all soft plastics are darker by far i think the profile and presentation of the bait are the most important ps i lied i still have tons of jerkbaits in every color mainly because they are my favorite to throw and look at same as jigs
  19. at 58 degrees i would still be using suspending jerk baits however they will still hit top waters at that point when the lake gets cleared up try a hedon torpedo clear have landed some massive smallies on those up on Erie
  20. with rw on this one got rid of 90% of my stuff lights and dark i think the rest are better are catching fishermen then fish
  21. wait till your brother goes to college and then save money from allowance so when he needs beer money you can buy his stuff cheap
  22. lake herrington is down that way might be able to find someone to take you down there if you want a good smallie stream that you can fish go up to georgetown ky and rent a kayak and go down stream and fish i think it is elk creek not sure been years there is a guy that posted in the other forum in the WV thread about the new river he lives in lexington also go to backwaters bait shop off of new circle road great shop lots of lures and smart guys that can help you out
  23. Also start keeping a journal or log write down the conditions, water temp time of day, day, water clarity, depth fishing, sky conditions, outside temp bait used, line used every time you catch a big fish this will teach you more then you know
  24. RW is right fish bigger baits and fish where they are not seeing a bait every ten minutes thrown at their face, ie the bank. i like his suggestion of deep structure as well however do not be afraid to use finess lures on these fish when the conditions warrant it as well
