Oooo Ya ! Just Got The Reel !!!!! Next The Rod!! Help Me Pick It!!!
if the rod is just for cranking i'd recommend something with a moderate action. personally, i feel st. croix makes some of the best moderate action rods on the market. before i upgraded, i had the mojo 7'mhm. aside from some guide issues i had with it, it was a fantastic crank bait rod and probably the only mojo rod i would recommend for shallow and mid depth cranks. deep divers i'd go a different direction.

Legend Tournament Guide Size?
Sorry it would be the 4th guide then. The first two differ in size and the rest of the 9 guides are all the same ( i think) the entire guide along with the guide foot just slipping out. I'm not sure if it's loose thread or what but the epoxy isn't cracked anywhere and by the looks of it it seems the threads are still intact as well. They are fuji k concept tangle frees if that is any help. I don't see the size stamped anywhere. They are very small guides. I was also thinking a size 6.

Legend Tournament Guide Size?
That's what I was thinking as well. I e-mailed the customer service originally with what you stated and got some copy and pasted response where it didn't even look like theyread it. his response hardly even pertained to what I was asking. I sent another e-mail so I will see how it goes. if that doesn't work i'll just try dan or harry at st. croix and see what they say. with what I've been gathering these guides cost less than 3$ a piece anyway and it's a very simple fix.

Do You Tie Direct To Jigs/lures Or Use A Snap Swivel ?
Attach the hook/jig/snap w/e to the hook hanger on the blank above the reel seat. I never use snaps for anything except cranks. There is no issue using them with cranks. Not to sound cliche but even kvd uses them on his cranks. however, i don't use them when ripping baits through weeds or around grass. they collect too much crud. any other cranking situation i always use snaps (never swivels). I wouldn't ever use them for jigs/plastics/etc.

Legend Tournament Guide Size?
Does anybody know the size of Fuji new concept tangle free guides used on the new legend tournaments? No idea how this happened but I had a guide just pop out of the epoxy. No breakage or cracks it just slipped out of the finish. I don't know where the guide is or I would replace it myself. I e-mailed st. croix explaining to them the issue and I only need one guide ( the 9th one down from the tip including the tip) and I got this lame automated message about sending the rod in for repair is more expensive than having the guide replaced locally etc etc. I was pretty clear that I only needed one single guide and I can do it myself. I think the guides themselves are around 3$ or less each? I know they are "micro" but not quite micro so I think maybe size 5.5 but leaning towards 6? This guide is literally in the middle of the blank so it's a bit awkward with how the line touches the blank with pressure.

Kvd 1.0 Hook Change
It isn't that they are "bad" hooks but are definitely not quality hooks. I've had so many fish bend one of the shanks on the hook rendering it useless after a fish or two. They are just brittle hooks. I'm pretty sure I use size 4 mustad short shank triple grips so I can go up a size and they won't tangle.

Small Large Mouth Bass
You should first make sure there are for certain big fish in the small ponds you fish. I can't count the number of larger bass I've caught on smaller baits. However, I've caught more big bass on larger baits than small fish on larger baits. Maybe try upsizing your offering.

What Did You Buy Today!?
Went out of town with the fiance. For some reason they carry blue craw and falcon craw rage chunks which are the two i use more than any. Christmas came early. Had a buy 3 get 1 free. I bought all the blue craw and 4 falcons. Went to country kitchen because ours closed down and it was on the way home. Found a fly in my lettuce that thankfully wasnt on my spicy chicken sandwich. Our food wss free.

Cranking Reel: Help Me Justify My Purchase
Not a bad rod at all. They do feel tip heavy but thats the last thing im worried about cranking. I just prefer a different brand. If you like it then thats all that matters.

Texas Rig Rod Question
I throw that weight down to 3/16 on the dx744 but also up to 3/8 and love it. However if 5/16 was the max id ever throw and down to 1/8 in sparse cover id be using the 743 or any other 3 power.

Rapala Or Kvd Cranks?
I really like rapalas dt3s for shallow rock. Anything over that though i prefer kvds and/or lc.

Cranking Reel: Help Me Justify My Purchase
Assuming fishing is something you will be doing for many years down the road thats justification in it self. As long as you can afford it you may as well get the correct tool for the job. You will be a lot happier this summer and most likely, with shimanos reputation for the longevity of their products, 15 years down the road. If money is tight just save or wait for sales. Deep cranking set ups arent going anywhere for a long time. Id personally get a different rod but the reel is spot on. You will probably be a lot happier on the water fishing with what you want and being more effective rsther than wondering "what if...".

Plyers, Multi-Tool, Or What?
I have everything i need in arms reach on the boat so i dont use a multi tool. If im visiting family shore fishing, i have an army issued multi tool that i keep with me. It has literally everything. Id hate to carry individual tools on shore. One more thing to forget. On a boat its much more convenient to need a scissors and theres on in its spot.

Shallow Water Chunk Rock Drop Shotting
Chunk rock and casting a DS just doesn't mix. You can try cylindrical DS weights but you will probably yield the same result.
-
4" Senko
Weightless trig or wacky. Usually throw the 5" wacky more than 4. I believe 2/0 or 3/0 depending on how you want it to fall or glide. Yes. But i prefer weightless if im ever throwing a senko. Yes, very easily.

really sharp scissors snip it off with ease.

Great Lures For Shallow Water
As long as there is cover of some sort I'd be throwing a jig or plastic but that's just more of a confidence thing. If it's open water and schooling baitfish it's a lipless crank or some sort of topwater depending on the conditions.

Ambitious Snake
Last year while coming up to a laydown I noticed a snake with half of a baby catfish in it's mouth. I was more curious how he caught the fish then watching him eat.
