  1. Palomar on braid San Diego Jam on mono and fluoro. Super strong knot and barely waste any amount of line at all.
  2. What did you really think was going to happen with such an opinionated post on an internet forum? They are up there in rods but depending on the part of the country you live in, don't have the "top" following as others do. St. Croix does make a great product but to blatantly state "there is no better rod" is just a biased opinion, not a fact. I think hank parker fishes fenwick rods now. at least he does on his show as of recent.
  3. Isn't the ci4 /w xship called the rarenium(sp?). I think it's offered in europe or someplace. It would be great for it to come to the US. It's a nice looking reel.
  4. If you BOLD, ITALICIZE, and make WORDS LARGER than they NEED TO BE, it sounds more IMPORTANT.
  5. the new model is black and white. it's probably just the way the picture was uploaded. As far as I know there is only one (last years) red kinetic and it's normally always on sale right now.
  6. If you are able to throw it then it should be fine. I throw weightless flukes on on a 51e but i've throw them on a 201e7 /w no issues either. a lot of throwing these will have to do with the correct rod as well. i throw mine on a 610mf and 12lb mono and can throw them quite a ways.
  7. My favorite reel. I use mine for most trig applications. I've never used the mgx. It can handle really anything except as mentioned above, deep cranking would be tiresome.
  8. Our dicks had one of each power on display. They werent as light as the cranking rods i use but they weren't really that heavy either. The blank seemed more than ideal for treble hook baits. Im not a fan of the color..but with just holding it it didnt seem like a bad inexpensive crank rod by any means.
  9. I hate leaving baits in bags unless I have to due to the material. I like having plano boxes with sizes labeled under the deck so I can open it up and have everything ready and available. I've never had an issues with losing color or bleeding as long as they are kept separated.
  10. I (normally)use a 610mf casting rod /w curado 51e and 12lb mono. Where I fish flukes it's normally 1-6' and around grass lines so I like to keep the bait up. I use light wire 3-4/0 hooks as light mono isn't the best for driving thick/superline hooks home. I've just started toying around /w 30lb braid (may drop to 20 ) just to try something different. Only tried it for a day though so I have to give it a few more outings before I reach a conclusion.
  11. i order direct from siebert/northstar. Ive read northstar shipping this time of year is a little long due to the demand so if you see something you like on TW from them it would probably be faster. Sieberts took 3 days to get to me.
  12. I received a flyer for my scorecard that had a buy 1 get 1 50% off certain baits and rick clunn rods 2 for 50$.

  14. Both Northstar and Siebert's offer the roundhead jig style with and without a skirt. I don't believe the OP is referring to the popular lead head jig/grub trailer. I've as of recent become a fan of Siebert's Jig's. He makes a very quality product at a great price.
  15. 1/4 and 5/16 i use 5" kalins grub/yamamoto grub or bfishn tackle pulse-r. 3/16 i use a 4in grub or small paddletail style bait.
  16. I'm with this guy. I store mine in a small worm binder. I don't like storing them unless they lay flat.
  17. I store mine in their own plano box. I've always stored all of them together and never had any issues with bleeding on the brands you mentioned. If I do put any sort of spike it on a belly though I don't store those with the stock frogs.
  18. Agree with the above about location. More times than not im fishing football heads for smallies.
  19. Topwater just started for me as of yesterday evening. River temp 59-60. Found backwaters with 62. Noerhteast IA.
  20. For shallow and some mid depth cranking I prefer mono and fluoro for the abrasion resistance it offers as well as the stretch. I use a 7'MHM and a 72MHM and rarely loose fish when they are hooked. The stretch has a forgiving factor that allows your not to rip the bait from the fishes mouth once he swipes/bites the bait. There was an article on Wired to Fish about why using a glass rod with mono helps a certain persons cranking. He described it as when using a "less sensitive" glass rod he won't feel the bite initially but will feel it at the right time to sweep set and the fish will stay buttoned. It's the same idea with braided line. If can be done and it does work great for some people but you do run the chance of ripping the bait away from the fish if you react to quick to a bite which is why mono/fluoro will have a more forgiving action. when initially setting the hook quick, the line will have that stretch needed so you won't pull the bait away. Once you have a decent sized bass at the boat you will know what I mean by having some stretch in your line helping. You can just as easily loosed your drag and play the fish out with braid too. I fish around way too many zebra muscles and sharp rock that just eat braid up so it isn't an option. Just give both a try. You can make either work. Toy with all the combos of braid/leader or straight braid /straight mono/fluoro and just find what works for you in the waters you fish. I like 12-15lb mono/fluoro. 12lb for mid depths and 15lb for shallower for a more abrasion resistance line and to keep the bait up a little.
  21. How dare you! I've mentioned their in a few swim jigs topics! I've a huge fan of their swim jigs. I think the small group on here that throws northern style swim jigs are the minority anyway.
  22. I agree with the above. The one quantum reel (the 2012 Kinetic? I think..it's red and was a gift) was awfully slow on the start up and just wouldn't ever get going. It had a mess of grease and very dirty bearings. I just soaked the bearings over night. (Normally it only takes less than 10 minutes but I kept getting dirty acetone after cleaning them repeatedly. This did the trick. Reel casts fantastic.
  23. Ive had better sucess using the baby rage craw rather than the full size. Seems to balance better.
