I've used side imaging in water as shallow as 3' /w success. I've had it on before in 2 FOW and have no issues but generally if I'm not on pad I hop off the big motor that shallow. The deepest I've used it is around 25' or so. I think Wayne has some pretty good screenshots of super shallow side imaging.

I'm not calling you an idiot. Being that you are unable to see anything clearly and are unable to distinguish anything on the screen, your unit is not set up correctly and/or you are not using it correctly. It takes practice to figure them out and there is a learning curve.

This sounds like user error and it would be hard to convince anybody otherwise. I've used both SI and DI features on Lowrance and Humminbird; Scanned images show up perfectly and are very crisp. You need to get somebody to show you how to use it properly and do some homework via youtube.

I use the 742c hp for what you intend. It's definitely more of a 2.5 power then at two. The 702 is more appropriately rated as it to power but it's not a rod I would want to use if there was more than two or three blades of grass as cover. aside from that it will work perfect for what you want to use it for

any daiwa /w an SV spool will be pretty much idiot proof. The T3's /w magforce 3d will work just as well, too.

Use domo. You know you are getting legit xd100. There was some mumblings about knock off xd 100 being sold on amazon so be cautious with the supplier when buying on amazon. Before switching to merc, i ran xd100 in my old boat. Awesome stuff.

Get the nrx 852 and dont think twice about it.

I own the 742, 743, 745 hp I had the old 744. 1/2oz jig is too much for the 3 power and if you are going 1/2oz weight for a trig thats a job for the 745. The 4 powers are dobyns most versitle rods. Also, a 3 power spinning rod isnt the same as a 3 power casting rod

Make sure you are running the electronics all the way back to the cranking battery on their own wire/fuse. Don't use the dash hook ups. You could have a break in the wire. Don't just assume it's your battery when everything else works. If he battery load tests fine, then make up 2 dummy wires and run your bow electronics to the cranking battery with everything else on. If all is well, you probably have a break in your wire. Use marine grade as a replacement. This could also be as simple as a dirty/loose connection at the unit. Battery wise, for trolling motor batteries I don't have an issue using the WalMart Everstart MAXX 29g batteries. If they go bad, there's a walmart almost everywhere near a ramp to replace them. I don't cheap out on the cranking battery as it runs everything in my boat. 31g AGM.

Felt I had zero chance this week. Told the wife she's got it in the bag. She made Lasagna for today's festivities. I stuffed my face while she watched her world crumble. Sleeping on the couch...but totally worth it.
