  1. Crazy. The comment was in reference to the person I quoted pertaining to using brake cleaner at all, not the OP. Also, not all AR bearings contain it plastic or rubber gasket/housing. It's unnecessary almost always to remove the Bearing from the reel during a breakdown/clean. If you do, you're doing it for a particular reason and disassembling the bearing...hence, why brake cleaner is OK to use it when you take them out .
  2. 742c hp. I just got it. Awesome rod.
  3. white white I will at times go nuts and use White Ice.
  4. Call me crazy but I take my bearings out of the reel before I clean them. CNC Brake Cleaner, while not my normal solvent for cleaning bearings, is a great product that can get those stingy bearings clean. Used it from stock bearings up to Boca ceramics. Never had an issue.
  5. There's your problem right there.Fluorocarbon is something that you get what you pay for. Inexpensive lines like Red Label and Assassin are decent lines for the money but will make most novice anglers dislike fluorocarbon. Being you want to use this line for your L and UL set ups /w straight fluorocarbon and use what I'm assuming is 1000 size spinning reels (because you said small), I would highly suggest in picking up some 4-7 # Sunline FC Sniper. Great line. I use straight 7# w/o any issues on 1000 size stradics and use 4# for stream trout. Also, buy some KVD line and Lure conditioner and spray it on while spooling and the night before you go out. Will do you wonders.
  6. You can soak it in a degreaser or cleaner if you want but it isnt necessary. It doesnt spin. Dont use grease at all . Take the tiniest drop of oil and then use half of that and then use half of that. AR bearings can be tempermental to over lubrication.
  7. Hard to say. Depends on the vendor. TW will eventually run them in their sale section. They seem to be getting quite a few of the new XP's in. I would contact Dobyns after the Classic in a couple weeks if I were you.
  8. too much grease? depends on "how little" you put on there.
  9. If you don't even know how to proceed /w fixing the issue you don't know all the necessary parts that may or may not be missing/damaged. Send it back...a new reel shouldn't do that. You can also find out if you have a certified Abu Garcia repair service in your area of close. I think they have a map on their website /w them .They will fix your reel through the warranty if they are certified through Abu/Pure Fishing.
  10. I would wait it out just a hair longer for the champion. The Champion XP is just now being release and more and more models are coming in at TW. You will probably be able to get quite the discount in the next month.
  11. your grey daiwa knob does indeed take 2x 4x7x2.5 bearings. I bought 20 of them off amazon for less than 10$. I believe Shimano uses the same bearing size in their knobs. The problem /w swapping knobs is the shaft difference. Diawa's shaft is a hair longer than Shimanos The diameter or daiwa and shimano handles are 4mm (which is why I think the bearings are interchangeable). 21 farms actually posted about this a couple years ago.
  12. send it back to dobyns for warranty. They will ask you to only send 6-8 inch label portion of the rod back to them in an envelope with a note that they will tel you what to put on it. anything with a aerated edge can cut through the blank. They will call you when they receive it just pay the 40(ish) dollar no questions asked replacement fee and they will send you a new rod.
  13. June(ish) through mid fall(october)
  14. Easier to work the bait and i know exactly what and where th bait is doing/going when i make a twitch. I have a super quick trigger as well. Hooking or pulling a bait away from a fish on thr hookset isnt really an issue with quality jerkbaits/hooks. The hooks are so sticky sharp that if a fish barely grazes th bait idds are its hooked. Some people like a mod fast for jerkbaits. Both will work. Different strokes for different folks.
  15. Is the only difference the 1/2 exposed blank between the trigger and locking nut?
  16. Take into consideration dobyns and powell use ecs reel seats and the tatula uses an acs. While some people do like acs seats, they are definitely a hate it or love it. Ecs is a very comfortable seat to me and i have large hands. Comfort is one of the most important, yet overlookded aspect of choosing rods.
  17. Gary helped with powell rods a long time ago before starting his own rod company. He has not had anything to do with them for a long time now. Your splitting hairs on all 3. The performance will be subjective and not a definitive 1,2,3 best. Try to handle them first.
  18. I prefer xf for jerkbaits. The mojo 68mxf would be my choice
  19. Do yourself a favor and remove that ratchet all together. Its the first thing i take out of every shimano. Useless in freshwater fishing.
  20. you can try Brian at The Tackle Trap. He can source pretty much anything. You could also call Quantum and probably just get one shipped to you for free. They are a cheap replacement if they charge you.
