  1. Peak for us in South Fl begins around March and runs through June. Fishing can be down right ridiculous where many begin to think that they are experts until summer time when they don't understand why the fishing slowed down. LOL....
  2. I use the Savvy 703. Nice rod, however I use that for my finesse applications. The 704, will fit the bill just fine with light jig and t-rig applications.
  3. To the OP, the type of water and cover you mainly fish on your waters will help determine which C series you should go with. If you fish waters that have very dense cover then I would say 736.
  4. My main frogging outfit for the glades is a champion 736. Its a very tough light rod.
  5. Our bass are unique that's for sure.... lol. I agree with your statement. Our fishing patterns are different than other parts of the country. Although some commonalities exist, our patterns do differ nonetheless.
  6. Oh..... trust me it is. Once you experience a nice blow up, like if a small grenade went off right under your frog, you will be hooked for life. Everyone I have introduced to frog fishing will always tell me..... "remember the time when that bass blew up my frog" its music to my ears....
  7. The only time I prefer to fish early early mornings is during the summer. Our summers are pretty brutal in S.FL and the water temp's reflect that. Some areas do extremely well early in the mornings then shut off by 10am, not to resume again til late afternoon early evening. I have been fishing the everglades for 15 yrs, and my best fishing has always occurred from 2pm-5:30pm non daylight savings time, and from 3pm to 7:30pm during Daylight savings time. I don't purposely night fish, so I cannot comment during those times. During our winter's I do notice the fish being reluctant to hit, however once the sun comes up high and the surface temps heat up a little fish activity begins.
  8. I have fished these type of conditions before. This is the only time I will use brighter colored frogs with an aggressive retrieve. I do not fish with popping frogs, however if done correctly a regular hollowbody frog can make alot of commotion. I still look for moderate to dense cover and make as much noise that I can. The hits in this situation are really explosive. Not the most ideal water conditions for frogging but it can be done.
  9. Exactly!! Nothing ventured nothing gained. Goodluck. Here is a very important tip when frog fishing. Trust me, I have learned this the hard way. Always be ready!! Whenever the frog is in the water it's fair game.
  10. Joedodge, I don't know what the water temps in Clearwater are right now. But, I do know here in South FL, the temps are in the high 60's. As far as when to throw the frog?(hollow body) I throw the frog all year long. Our conditions here are completely different than other parts of the country, so some of the "traditional times" of when to throw certain baits does not apply imho and experience. If the cover is right. For ex; moderate to dense vegetation and wood I will throw the frog. The areas you are describing in your neck of the woods are prime areas to give it a try. Vary your presentations and see what works. If you find a pattern stick to it. Also, do not be afraid to throw in the nastiest of cover. You will be surprised what lurkes in there. As far as equipment, to be on the safe side, rods should not be less than MH, and at least 7ft and braid no less than 40lbs. Ideal outfits for heavy cover. Rods that are H and 7ft + and braid that's 50lbs. Reels: 6.4:1 will get the job done, but 7.1:1 will definitely help out. Throw a hawgtech handle in the mix and you got yourself a froggin outfit. Good luck
  11. I was fortunate enough to go out and fish yesterday afternoon for about an hour or so. I went to park close to me and landed a nice 19" fish.
  12. Recently, I have been having the same issue loading pics. I just go into paintbrush and reduce the pic to 55% and that does the trick.
  13. Ah yes..... the ones you never got to see. I have had that happen many times. Leaves you wondering doesn't it?
  14. I have seen shows where guys down in the keys, hook big jacks or snappers for bait along the bridges. When the G. grouper hits, the anglers have to do the best they can not to be yanked out of the boat. When they bring the fish up to the surface, they are so HUGE!!
  15. Your question is not stupid. I can understand fishing with a spinner for such a long time and then to a b/c, I can understand why the question was asked. Like the guys mentioned above. Hawgtech's are great handles and they have different lengths and styles. I for one really enjoy the ones I have. Having a longer handle than the stock handle may help you a lot. Good luck.
  16. Lol.. its cold for me too. But compared to what's going on up North right now, South Fl is paradise.
  17. The weather is awesome right now in South/Central FL. Enjoy your fun in the sun!!
  18. Since LiveTarget debut i have pretty much exclusively fished with them. Occasionally, a Booyah pad crasher. The jackall lobee has peaked my curiosity as well.
  19. Interesting modifications. I just simply trim the skirt 1" and have at it. If frog is on the menu, you will know quickly.
  20. Flukes are great baits. But they are not always on the menu. Throw something else in the meanwhile. Then when the conditions change and you re-introduce the fluke it will probably be the winning bait of the day. Like someone else mentioned. Don't force a bait if its not there, regardless of color. Just my .02. Good luck.
  21. Congrats... enjoy!!
  22. Thanks Rick. The weather was challenging, but we made the best of it and had a good time. I guess it beats dodging thunderstorms. Lol
  23. I agree with this. On top of that, they don't announce it. Yes, sometimes they have the red clearance stickers, and other times if you buy x amount of one bait they have a discount on other bags of the same bait you purchase. If I knew the sale was going on in the 1st place I would have gotten more stuff...lol
  24. Headed out yesterday with my BIL to both MM35 and US 27. First half of the day was at MM35 attempted to go MM41 but very dense hyacinths mats made my passage futile. Passing cold front with high winds also made the fishing very challenging. We caught 5 bass 1 being 3.5lbs. After the cold front blew over, we made our way to US 27. The water conditions better. No hyacinth's lol. Winds were still high, but we were able to land 19 more bass for total of 24 for the day. Soft plastics and frogs produced the catches.
