  1. I'm late on this one. Two things stand out Mike. The braid is very thin and the hooksets may be harder than you think. To offset the impact of the hookset, you may want to loosen the drag a little. Lastly, RW beat me to it. YZ Hybrid in 6lbs is great. I use it on my spinner and have had 0 break offs from hooksets or fish. Sounds like a minor adjustment, you should be fine. Goodluck!!
  2. ^^ This pretty much sums it up ^^
  3. I wear a buff over a baseball cap.
  4. Frog fishing can be frustrating like that sometimes. From what was written, you are getting the bass attention, but are having trouble connecting. Maybe this might help. First, delay your hookset just a little bit longer, and second, when you set the hook make sure the slack is picked up and set the hook straight up and avoid setting from the sides. Lastly, what line are you using? Braid is king in this application imho. 40lb -65lb braid would be my suggestion. Cover will dictate how high or low you go in the range I provided. Good luck!!
  5. During my elbow ordeal, I was told to take high dosages of Naproxen. Which is the medication found in Alleve. Long story short, I developed a Kidney stone because of it. Thats a whole other discussion there with that experience... LOL!!
  6. ^^^ This pretty much sums it up. ^^^ Several reels from different companies will fit the bill here. If you have a reel family that you are familiar with already, get one with the specs listed above and you will be good to go. Good luck!!
  7. What you have is called "fisherman's elbow", aka lateral epicondilitis, which is equivalent to tennis elbow. I feel your pain. I had the the same problem a few years back. I had it very severe. My path was similar to the ones mentioned. Cortizone shots, ice, etc. I learned a lot during this process. I learned that cortizone shots are really good band aids in masking pain, but if you don't find the root cause, the pain will return in 6 weeks with a vengeance. After dealing with this issue for close to a year, I was introduced to a good physical therapist. I learned to properly strengthen the joint above and below the elbow, which in this case would be the shoulder and wrist. In conjunction with a series of specific stretches, and treatment, my issue was finally resolved. It took some time but I have had 0 problems since then. I will finish by saying, if you are in that much pain and discomfort, you will have to layoff fishing for a while and let the inflammation subside. In my case I just learned to fish with my other arm for a while. I wish you the best of luck, I remember how debilitating fisherman's elbow can be.
  8. Google Earth. Best tool for a bank fisherman. Goodluck, July is a brutal with our heat.
  9. The same problem discussion could be said for Optimax produced during certain years. However, that's not the case recently. Mercury is also shifting or has shifted to all 4 stroke engines, I doubt any new boat sold presently will have an Optimax on the back of it. Evinrude did have issues in the past as well, but their recent models have been doing pretty good. Both outboards are good. You will have to take other factors in consideration to make your decision. Good luck on your purchase.
  10. 15lb yozuri and/or 40lb PP in thicker cover always does the trick for me.
  11. You adjust the b/c similar as you did with your spinning reels. I adjust mine by feel.
  12. You hit the nail on the head without even knowing. The cover you have available to you is a primary area to be focusing your attention. Those weeds and scum is natural shade for bass. Throwing a frog in those specific areas may give you the surprise of a lifetime. Good luck!!
  13. I throw the frog at any time of the day, all day, and in any condition. Throwing the frog in only specific times of the day is only hurting the angler imho. Even in the hottest and brightest part of the day, the frog will catch you quality fish, if you focus your concentration in cover ideal for ambushing prey, you could fish all day with this bait.
  14. The Disney incident, was very tragic. The family was from Nebraska. Sadly, they didn't know that Lakes in Florida, and yes.. even in Disney World could be extremely dangerous with gators and other wildlife. The little boy was wading in ankle or knee deep water at night, when the attack occurred. Very sad indeed.
  15. Fished MM35 yesterday from 1:30pm to 4:30pm before being chased out by a Tstorm. Managed to boat 15 frogging. Water was clear, level was normal and there was some current running towards the South.
  16. LiveTarget HB frogs.
  17. Great tips on here, I will also like to add, I like to start hydrating the day before I go out on long hot fishing day. Lastly, a good measure of hydration while outside is how often is the person urinating during an outing. If your peeing often its a good thing, if your not peeing at all you are dehydrated. Thirst is one of the last signs of dehydration believe it or not.
  18. Congratulations.... That's awesome A-Jay, good for you!! Enjoy that beauty!!
  19. What's up Cutler Jay its been awhile. Is that the Interceptor Canal?
  20. Laws are in place to keep everyone safe, and if people choose to break these laws they should face the consequences. I think with what you witnessed, if it was done more often, boaters will really think twice in breaking these laws.
  21. I really enjoy my I's. Can't really say anything negative about them.
  22. ^^ This ^^
  23. Sweet... congrats!!
