how do ya'll cook your bass
I myself, do not eat bass. I have relatives that do, so I catch and keep them out of their ponds for them. I think they just cut off the heads, remove all the innards and just cook 'em just like that. I would rather release them to fight another day seeing as they are better fighters than tablefare in my opinion. Now...on the other hand, walleye, catfish, and crappie...them are some tasty creatures right there.

So...uh...Muddy. What is going on with your Mets starting pitching staff? Glavine is now out with a possible blood clot in his pitching arm. That makes 3/5 of the starting pitching out with injuries. Good thing the Mets have as big a lead as they do. Just think where they could have ended up if they had not have played that well early on. Can't wait for the series to start up tomorrow night. Boy...I may have to eat some crow on my picks for the playoffs. I had the BoSox picked to win the east. Man...5 game sweep...at home...to the Yanks...ouch. Doesn't get any more painful than that for a Red Sox fan. But really...I hate the Yanks, but a 5 game sweep is impressive.

Do any of you have one particular fishing partner
I know what you're saying. It's so hard to find someone who will fish for 16hrs straight. Yeah...that is my main problem. All my friends are big ole sissies and only wanna fish if they catch something or even if they do catch something they only wanna fish for maybe an hour or two. So most of the time, I find myself fishing alone. I prefer to fish with a buddy, but most of my friends just don't have the time or patience, my wife doesn't like fishing, my dad doesn't have time, and my grandfather just can't get out and do that sort of thing anymore. :'( If anyone around or close to Overland, MO wants a fishing buddy, just let me know. I am always up to fishing with new folks.

The who, GMAN? OOOOOOOOH...you mean that OTHER New York team? Geez...what are their names again? Yeah an 11 run win is definately nice, especially against the Cubs in Chitown. What would make it even better is if the Pirates do the same thing to the Reds as they did to us...give 'em a whoopin'. I would sure like to have better than a 2.5 game lead. 3.5 sounds a lot better. Then at least it takes more than one bad series for us and one good series for them to lose first place. The match up tomorrow is not a great one. I like Suppan, but Zambrano is a beast...he has been a Cardinal killer for quite sometime now.

"Back Seat Boater"
I don't get to fish out of a boat very often at all. If someone is allowing me to accompany them on a fishing trip in their boat, I pretty much just shut up and fish, be as quite as possible, and adhere to any and all rules they have for their boat. I'll let them do whatever they wanna do. Their boat, their rules.

Need some weedy pond advice
I would really give a heavier jig and pig some consideration. Just toss it through the muck, let it sink, and yo-yo it up in down in the same spot a few times. If no bite there, try another spot. One more thing to try. Get a hold of a Booyah 1/2 oz. swim jig. Try for a color that mimics the baitfish the best in that pond. I rig these with matching colored Zoom Swimmin' Chunks. Do the same thing with this, cast it through the algae and weeds and let it sink. Then just vary your retrieve back to you. Like Jim said, underneath all that should look kinda like a forest. The head on that swim jig will come through it very well. The bass will already be in very good ambush position under the muck and will hopefully think it is a baitfish that has wandered into the area. Good luck.

HOLY CRAP!!! Where did that pitching performance from Jeff Weaver come from?!?!?! 1 run on 3 hits over 7 innings is phenomenal!! Thank goodness. We needed to win that series. That was a well played game. And how 'bout Scott Rolen stepping up to the plate to win that game! AWESOME! Now they just need to keep riding this wave against the Chicago Cubs and Muddy's Mets.

what would you buy with $5000?
As good of a used bass boat 5 g's would get me. If ya sniff around long enough you can find pretty good deals.

Why no net?
I usually don't use a net, but if it looks like my new PB on the line, then I ain't takin' any chances of things coming unbuttoned at the boat, if and when I am in a boat. Most of my fishing is done by the bank, so the majority of the time I just lip them.

Fish Per Acre
There is indeed a way to answer this question. I have heard certain numbers before, but do not know if they were correct or not. There is only a certain amount of fish per acreage that the ponds natural forage can keep the fish fed to healthy levels. If it starts to get to be too much for the pond to handle, you will start to notice you are catching nothing but small fish. The fish will be stunted due to lack of readily available forage. This is where selective harvest is an absolute must for the healthy management of a pond. I hope to see a scientific answer for this thread. Maybe Raul or ouachitabassangler (Jim) can shed some more light on this subject since they have some background working in their areas respective fisheries depts. Here is a document I found on the Missouri Department of conservations website. Page 32 outlines the carrying capacity of a pond. this infor is for MO ponds though. I don't know if it would be different in other states. Like I said, hopefully one of the two above can confirm this info. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/documents/fish/aquaguides/pondhb.pdf

River Fishing Re-hash
I am looking at some of these to insert in the tubes. http://www.basspro.com/servlet/catalog.TextId?hvarTextId=58622&hvarDept=100&hvarEvent=&hvarClassCode=10&hvarSubCode=6&hvarTarget=browse They seem to be made of good quality components and I like the weights they come in. Has anyone ever used these before?

What Weight Is A "Good Bass"
For me, I would break it down like this being in MO and having limited time and places to fish. 2-3 lbs = Average Fish 3-4 lbs = Good Fish 4-5 lbs = Great fish 5 lbs and over = Excellent Fish I rarely get to fish waters where fish bigger than three pounds are a common catch. most places I fish 1 1/2 to 2lbs bass are very commonplace. If I catch a 3 I feel like i have accomplished something. I am to the point now where I am starting to feel the urge to "hunt" for larger fish.

Now THAT is what the Cards needed. Reyes is capale of picking up win #2 in the series. Depending on who is piyching thursday maybe we could go for the sweep. If Weaver is pitching, screw it. Just give them say six runs and call it the 4th inning so we can bring in our bullpen.

River Fishing Re-hash
We will be fishing out of a small jon boat, one of the few times I have boat access. I can vouch for my own stealthiness and maybe one of my other friends. But the other one is kinda loud sometimes...he doesn't get to go fishing very often and doesn't seem to understand the value of quiet...especially in an aluminum jon boat. Thanks to everyone for the tips. RW, how fast do Mizmo and Micro Munch ship out their tackle? The trip is on Aug. 26th. Also what size jig heads do you use in your 3 1/2" tubes? Do you ever use the jig heads that have rattles in the head, I have seen some of those and believe that can only help a tubes craw imitation, but being that I have never fished tubes...what do I know. Which tube is the 3 1/2" tube? I am looking on both sites and can find the larger tubes, but can't locate the smaller ones. Color: Kent's Classic and Black Neon, right?

That's not the point...the Cardinals have not had to battle for the NL Central crown since 2003. This is the first time since then that they will have to get off their butts, battle their gross inconsistency, and start winning games to hold off the opposition. At the moment the Reds are playing better ball than them in both offense and pitching. If the Cardinals are swept that will put them 1.5 games back and having to battle for the pennant. Another thing to consider, as much as I hate to possibly eat a little crow here, the 'Stros are playing the weak Cubs. If they 'Stros sweep the Cubs and the Cards get swept by the Reds, then we could have a very tight three team race in the Central that at the moment the Cards do not appear ready for. The Reds have been a steady threat and the 'Stros have started to surge a little. The Cards have already endured not one, but TWO eight game losing streaks. The team leadership has not been able to find an answer to that kind of inconsistency, nor have the players. The Cards DO have the talent and leadership to win the division, but right now, none of it seems to be hitting on all eight cylinders...heck not even six cylinders. So yes...this series will test the Cards metal and see how well they can deal with pressure, which past playoff series have shown, they don't deal with it very well. Should be interesting to watch.

River Fishing Re-hash
Thanks for the skinny on tube riggin' RW, I appreciate it. I felt as if there were a big 'ole hole in my plastics arsenal, but no more. Does anyone else have any nifty pearls of wisdom or tips that I should try to keep in mind? One question I have is which direction to cast, up or down stream. I have always heard that bass normally orient themselves to face up stream so they can pick off passing baitfish, bugs, crayfish, or other passing prey as it goes downstream. If this is true it leads me to believe that I should cast upstream and work the bait back to me with the current, or if the current is fast enough, let the current do the work for me while managing the depth of the lure. Would I be correct in this logic, or have I got it backwards...like I said...it's all kinda fuzzy. :-?

River Fishing Re-hash
As far as line goes I am already set there. I just re-strung my pole with some Camo Green Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultrasoft #6 and have reset my drag accordingly. I have plenty of Fat Ikas and 4/0 EWG Gammies on hand. I also have plenty of Hula grubs. However, I don't not have ANY tubes. I am retarded when it comes to tubes. I think I could figure out how to fish them, but rigging them is a mystery to me. It's probably simple and i am just overcomplicating things. Do you insert jigheads, T-rig them (which I never understood how to T-rig a hollow tube), or some other type of rig I may not know about?

the pennants are in view the trash is flying 2007
Yep. Here it is. In my eyes, this is it. To me this will determine whether or not the Cards will make the playoffs. If they get swept, not so good. I don't particularly like the idea of the Cards playing catch up in mid August through Sept. with all the pitching woes they have been experiencing and the sudden silence of the offense. Hopefully it is a well played and entertaining series. May the best team win! Good luck and come out swingin'!!

River Fishing Re-hash
This particular river is known to have both smallies and largemouths. I have never caught a smallie before, so that's what I am gonna gun for. http://www.mdc.mo.gov/fish/watershed/cuivre/contents/070cotxt.htm This is the most up to date info I have found on this river. There is a ton of info here, but there is one problem. This information was compiled about a month before the Flood of '93, which greatly changed the fisheries of some rivers, and i know changed the fishery of the Cuivre.

What do you consider yourself?
I will pretty much throw anything at this point. I am willing to try anything ya give me. So I guess I consider myself a Junk Angler.

River Fishing Re-hash
I have a little trip planned for a river in MO called the Cuivre River. I can't really find any great details about the river or it's current conditions. Anyway, I haven't fished any rivers for probably 10+ years, been fishing smaller to medium sized ponds and some larger MO resevoirs. To say I am a little rusty is a huge understatement. So I am kinda treating this like my first time fishing a river. I kinda remember some of the basics, but most of them are pretty fuzzy. Any advice or friendly reminders would be greatly appreciated form all you river dogs out there.

how many people fish your lake illegal?
One of the state parks I fish has a limit on how many keeper fish(15" for bass) you can keep. I see people leaving with stringers filled with a plethora of species. They just don't care. I am all for keeping your catch if that's your thing, but when they take more than the allowed limit, they just don't sem to get that they are hurting the fishery.
