Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
Well this thread has taken quite a few turns. But as stated just above the point of the thread was the fact that it was new to me that I had given up some rights in order to fish. This is not something explained when one purchases a fishing license. Since I don't hunt and practice c/r only using artificial baits maybe it was on me to read the fish and game hand book. I don't really care either way since like stated before I have nothing to hide. However I thought it was worth noting and posting about since many of us are returning to fishing with the nicer weather upon us and that hopefully someone anyone would think twice before doing something illegal. Also I would hope but maybe not always the case that most LEO would have the commen sense, experience and intuition to excuse my pun tell when something is fishy and not inconvience people just out for a good time and not breaking law.

St Croix Medium Light Rods
I have a factory SCIII 7'ML and a SCIII 7'M I built. The medium in my opinion is much more stout then the ML. I prefer the ML for the techniques you are describing.

Water Temp?
Dacks, I'm not a pro but if your fishing the Mohawk your better off staying home or finding a lake. As you know it's been a rough winter. Where I'm at lock 6-9 it's nothing but current, chocolate milk and cold. Around schenectady the river is a few ticks below flood stage. I can fish that in the summer but right now a week after ice out unless you have some serious boat control skills and sonar it's going to be tough. There going to be stacked up somewhere. Where Maybe deep pools off the main river/current and probably can't reach without a boat. Good luck.

River Monsters Is Back
I always watch but I dunno it's getting depressing. Seems like every episode is some CSI about what fish killed someone and we never really get an answer. How about some badA giant topwater river action.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
Overall it makes sense to me. Like anything else gotta make sure you follow the law.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
^^^ the officer actually spoke to the last part of your post. Mentioning the whole they are more powerful than regular police and I guess it comes back to hunting and fishing being regulated activities. An example he gave was if you're found walking out of the woods with a gun they are going to search your vehicle because they are going to assume you were hunting.

Giving Up Your Rights To Fish.
Stopped by a lake today to wet a line. Skunked of course. Anyways I wasn't there 5 minutes when I looked over my shoulder and saw THE LAW, Mr.DEC coming my way. As always I was pleasant and produced my id and fishing license. Had my backpack open and some planos out he looked them over as we were chatting. He had a young man with him an intern he explained to me and proceded to explain to the intern the license checking process. What I learned from the conversation was by purchasing a fishing license I had waved my right to unreasonable search and seizure while fishing. The officer explained that if he wanted to he could search my entire bag and vehicle since they were being used in the act of fishing. I forget the term he used but basically fishing is a regulated activity. Not really a big deal since I have nothing to hide but interesting none the less; this was the first I heard of waving my rights. . Officer said really the law is used on hunters poaching animals but could be used on me. I live in New York don't know the laws in other states but be safe and keep everything on the up and up everyone.

Travel Rod - Spinning Or Casting?
I fished both 2 piece casting and spinning rods not much different except for the obvious. Questions you have to ask yourself is what are you more proficient at, what will be more versatile for you and which do you prefer. IMHO if your looking to keep the cost down. Spinning when you factor in the cost of a decent reel.

Gahhh Bad Luck Strikes Again!
$400 for a truck and the tranny blows. I wouldn't call that bad luck but inevitability. I'm all for cheap cars my last two cars were less than 2k last one went 6 years this one is on its second and going strong. Look for granny's old car man. Usually the family just wants to get rod of it.

A google search makes it sound like a darn nice stretch of water. I'd stick to the basics crayfish and minnow baits. http://www.gameandfishmag.com/2010/09/30/fishing_bass-fishing_mo_0509_02/

I Have No Idea...
Rarely fish a river? Man you are missing out!! Imagine having to spend your whole life fighting the current. River and for that matter creek fish are some if the hardest freshwater fighters. I rarely fish for largies or lakes any more but to ME river fish seem more willing to bite if a meal presents it's self. I hope you get out there. Scottf's advice was spot on. Not much more I can think to contribute except look through the threads in this section and get out there and give it a go. Good luck! Oh yea i don't know much about Missouri but if you can find some sort of discharge into a river a pipe or creek fish that. Also rocks; I'm a shore fisherman so I can't use electronics to find structure but I know smallies like rocks. I generally won't waste my time with a soft bottom unless there are rocks near by.

Jeff Gordon Coming Out Hoax
I've learned a lesson about this don't get your news off Facebook. So far I've thought the guy that did the Olympic light show was murdered and Newman from Seinfeld was dead.
