  1. Capt.Bob always eating good
  2. Not that anyone cares but my thought is; unless there is money or some sort of professional gain to be had who cares. What did Henry David Thoreau say again "Many men go fishing all of their lives without knowing its not the fish they are after" This thread renforces that for me
  3. You dont think the handles on the rage and legend extreme rods are a departure from the ordinary? They may not be your cup of tea but they are certainly different from many other companies designs. The nice thing about st.croix if you dont like how they do it you can build one the way you like it. That cant be said for many other companies
  4. Wrap some masking tape around the blank in front of where your are going to be sanding it down so if the sand paper touches the blank it wont scratch it. Get some sand paper in various grits a rough, middle and smooth like a 600 grit. I dont know the rest of the grits off the top of my head an 80/100 grit is rough. Cut a piece of sand paper alittle bigger than your palm and twist away. It might take awhile and your forearms might look like popeye when you are done but it can be done.
  5. I've been looking at SUVs for the past two weeks trying to keep it under 7k people want a ton of money for SUVs with 100-150k on them so I'm still searching. Anyways here's a pic of the boat.
  6. And put them right to work. Caught this bad boy on a 4in senko. ML Avid 10lb braid and 10lb mono leader. Heck of a fight in the spill way of the river. Thankfully as I was landing him two guys drove up with a big landing net and took a pic for me. Definetly the biggest strongest pike I ever have caught.
  7. Just watched Al Linder smash some smallmouth on a rapala skitter prop. The one with one prop on the back. Anyone have an insight on this lure and maybe comperables as well?
  8. I've seen some guys in Australia remove the front hooks off thier poppers. Never been just watch a lot of YouTube. Why not try it maybe it works maybe it doesn't. You don't have much to lose except a fish or two.
  9. . I have limited experience comparing st.croix f vs. Xf I own a 69mlxf and a 7'0mlf been fishing them side by side for about three months. They are both sick rods. Personally I don't know why people consider the 69mlxf a drop shot rod. It's been very versatile for me with small top waters, jerkbaits, wacky worms, grubs and on and on. The key word being small. It's not a rod I would throw a spook jr on but I will throw all the above baits and a spook jr on a 70mlf plus flukes on 1/4 jig heads, senkos 1/4oz tubes etc. If you don't have a lot of cover around I would serioulsy take a look at the 70mlf.
  10. I really wouldn't worry about it. I've built two rods so in no way does that qualify me as a pro but it's really not a hard job. I'm sure any "pro" builder would have rods or atleast pics on hand to show you the quality of their work. Think about this as well do you know the guys building dobyns or any other brand of rod. There have been plent of examples of shoty work right from the factory.
  11. Have you checked the website below ? http://www.tackleworks.org Hopefully you can find someone.
  12. I use mono leaders generall sufix. One thing to remember if your going to tie the modified Albright/ alberto is you have to have the line come out the same way it went in when finishing the knot.
  13. White Zoom Fluke
  14. Thanks for the replies guys seems 50/50. I'm gonna have to make a decision either way and soon; being on the bank with this thing at home is killing me.
  15. Get a backpack or tackle bag. It will make bank beating much easier.
  16. Awesome!! Love a bulldog
  17. Without see a picture it's hard to tell. Why not find a box that can hold a variety so you can fish the water colum and the specific situation? A few tubes, topwater or two, spinnerbait and a hard/soft jerbait. These are great tools for traveling light and getting into tight spaces. http://m.dickssportinggoods.com/family/index.jsp?categoryId=11478344 If your going to go off in the jungle in search of the wild smallmouth please tell someone where you are going. I attempted to get into a spot next to a flooded drainage pipe and fell in chest deep. That was my reward and I was wearing full length jeans.
  18. Yo zuri makes fine leader material. I use six and twelve pound test and it has worked very well along with eight and ten pound mono. I have not noticed much difference in leader material as far as sensitivity is concerned; only abrasion resistance and breaking strength.
  19. Thanks A-Jay; I did see that. I guestimated 1500 because I dont really know how much the trailer weighs. I doubt its a 1000lbs but at the same time dont know if its 100 or a 1000. I also read people think GM is conservative on the tow capacity of their cars. I found hitchs rated for the car rated up to 3500 pounds but that could be irrelevant. We used to tow a 1236 jon with a beat up 5 cylinder volvo. So here I am still up in the air.
  20. I picked up a 1648 all weld jon boat with a merc 9.9 over the winter and have had it on the water a few times and throughly enjoyed it. Problem is i had friends tow it for me with trucks and suv's. I have a 96 oldsmobile eighty eight which has a 3.8L V6. I would rather not purchase a new vehicle at this moment for a number of reasons but thats another story. I found online that the boat weights around 500 the motor 72 and I dont know about the trailer but lets just call it 1500 when all is said and done. So for the boat towing pros do you think a front wheel drive car with a 3.8l v6 would be up to the task? Not looking to tow across the state maybe an hour radius max. Thanks in advance.
  21. 6'6-7'0 medium power fast action. Look for 1/8-3/8 lure weight.
  22. This sounds like my everyday box not an "emergency box" throw in some 3.5 inch tubes and mini flukes.
  23. Nice fish. Gotta love topwater!
