  1. Fish would start flying if that happened!
  2. If you're looking for a VERY solid combo, check out the Bass Pro Shops Pro Qualifier/Carbonlite Combo. They are right around 160 if I recall correctly. You're looking at an outstanding reel that performs above its price range of $100 and a good rod that is another $100 or so.
  3. I guess I technically use 16, but I said 15
  4. there's a couple threads on this already
  5. 1/4 - 1/2oz brush jig with RT Rage Craw or RI Sweet Beaver. I use an arkie jig quite frequently as well.
  6. Easily my favorite so far. Thanks again
  7. These guys are right. I got the DX744 based off their recommendations. I've been throwing jigs 1/4 and 3/8oz with a 4.20 RI Sweet Beaver so far. I've been MORE than pleased with the way this rod handles these weights.
  8. I've owned 4 Shimano's (2 Citica G's, 1 Curado G and 1 Curado 51E). They're definitely quality reels, including the G series. Though, as stated already, I would stick with the E series if possible. I can maybe count the number of negative reviews I've seen on Shimano reels in your price range on one hand. While some prefer other brands (me included), I don't think you can go wrong with a Citica on up.
  9. Personally, I would upgrade the worm/jig rod, but that's because that's my favorite way to fish. A better rod will enhance that type of fishing than most other techniques, IMO. Also, congrats on your grades. Keep those up and it will make life A LOT easier and open many more doors.
  10. Not everything is new, but these are the new set ups I have put together Lews TP/Dobyns DX744c Lews TSS/Dobyns 735c Lews TP/Dobyns 705CB Daiwa Tierra 2500/Dobyns DX742SF
  11. x2, the Champion is an excellent bottom contact rod. You won't be disappointed.
  12. Every experience I've had with BPS customer service has been outstanding. I actually just got back from checking out rods. I called ahead to see if they had the rod I was looking for in stock and the guy on the phone actually went out and found it. It takes me about 30-45 minutes to drive there but upon arrival I couldn't find the rod. I asked some of the guys in the fishing department and 2-3 of them stopped what they were doing and looked around the for the rod, checked in the back, checked ALL the other rods just to make sure it wasn't misplaced and approached me on several occassions to see if they could help me in any other way. I was surprised they went through that much trouble. Personally, I wasn't that concerned. I really just wanted to see how my reel would balance on the rod, which probably was sold by the time I got there with the amount of traffic they have this time of year. Not a major situation, but still, the staff went above and beyond my expectations.
  13. Do you have a Tournament Pro? If so, how would you compare the BB1 Pro to the TP? Thanks!
  14. How does the MHM cast 1.5 squarebills? I've heard some people say its too much rod for them.
  15. I am in the market for a new treble hook rod. I'm looking for something versatile enough to handle crankbaits (mainly squarebills), topwater treble hook lures and jerkbaits (something I'm starting to fish more). I was pretty set on getting a Dobyns 705CB Glass, but with the new rebate deal that St. Croix is running, the Avid crankbait rod could be had at a great deal. Do you guys think the MHM Avid could handle all the applications listed better than the Dobyns? Also, a second question. As mentioned in another thread, Gander Mountain runs a promo where you can get $5 off every $50 spent, and the St. Croix rebate of $50 off is for rods over 180. Do you guys know, based on the rules of the rebate, that it would still apply if GM knocks off $15 based on their promo? Thanks for any help in advance.
  16. USPS tracking sucks sometimes. I've bought and shipped items and they do not get delivered as stated initially by the tracking number. The actual updating system can also be unreliable. I've shipped things and the website will not update from "accepted/processed" until it is out for delivery. Other times it works perfectly. That may not make you feel any better, but that has been my experience on a couple of occasions in the past. With all that said, the items have always been delivered safely and unharmed.
  17. I need to buy another cranking rod. I'm pretty set on a Dobyns 705cb glass which I will probably pair with either my Lews TP or TSS. From there I'll either be looking for a Dobyns Champ or Champ Extreme in a 3 power, more than likely, with another Lews TP.
  18. At 400 you could pick up 2 Dobyns Champions from BTD. I would use those for your jigging and texas rigging and find another use for your ***, maybe spinnerbaits, chatterbatis, etc.
  19. 3/4 of my casting reels are lews. I'm not gonna make some comment like "lews puts all other reels to shame" because I've used other brands and they have all been quality products. However, once I discovered I could buy a lews tp, new, for under 150, sometimes closet to 120, I wasn't interested in buying much else. Unfortunately the tp is the highest I will be able to use for now since I am a left handed cranker, but it is certainly worth the money imo.
